@tml4873 I'll admit to not being an expert on it, but I consider ethnicity to be based on geographic heritage rather than religion. Black African Jews are ethnically very different from white Eastern European Russian Orthodox Jews, who are different from Middle Eastern Israeli Jews.

@IronAnimation I merant "unity", actually.
The atheist perpective is based around rationalizing issues instead of making emotionally based decisions, without any evidence to back them up.
With that in mind, I would also expect most atheists to realize that at this point in time, we're better off uniting than endorsing separation among each other.
And why do religious/atheist debates have a role in this? Because it's a topic which people boil very easily over.

@LunaSeaSane religion is a extremely personal view for most people, you can't just expect everyone to come to your conclusion that it should be put aside in the name of unity.And anyhow, both sides ARE trying to create unity;through a form of conquest against each other. Different perspective,different priorities (eternalness damnation after death would probably over ride any desire for unity in the living world). SOME atheists would agree with you,SOME think educating is more important,etc.

@tml4873 I'll admit to not being an expert on it, but I consider ethnicity to be based on geographic heritage rather than religion. Black African Jews are ethnically very different from white Eastern European Russian Orthodox Jews, who are different from Middle Eastern Israeli Jews.
But I'm splitting hairs. I do understand your intention that you mean "Jewish" as a cultural label, especially in the US. I'm not trying to start any fights :)
