@Goffrey88 She was NOT a spy, and did NOT die by firing squad. It was a tabloid lie that spawned a fictional myth entirely unrelated to the life of Margarete Gertrude Zelle (Mata Hari).
She was not a 'leopard femme fatale' or 'peacock exhibitionist'. She was like a gold lioness. Not a seductress. But a powerful woman, dancer, and artist. She also supported women's rights and world peace, amongst other causes.
Anihyay the music i believe is the Carmina Barana Not sure on the spelling but if you google it they will get the full story about this music. Supposeldy it was written about a certain number of monks-priests who left the Catholic church and formed a group with very perverse sexually active priests with strange rituals No wim going to have to look this up myself!!
So, to the point: All that we have evidence for is that Mata Hari was detained at the train station due to the war. There is not even a death certificate for 1917 in her name. She was an amazing dancer, for an upper class audience. Famous in Egypt, India, all of Europe. Her work was classical, Art. She was praised and well received. Innovative, intelligent, and lovely. She IS THE WOMAN WHO BROKE THE SHAME BARRIER DOWN; All unhealthy, unnatural, repressed views of the HUMAN BODY were expelled.
Bu I dont asked whether should I or shouldn't shooting at people(be they innocent or not), but about how body is free from unhealthy borders, when it's pierced by bullet from my carbine?
@StarQualityWins Her family didn't divorce or go broke, they moved to Ireland. She was seen in London in 1920, before they made the silent film in America that same year. Wasn't it that film that made the minor tabloid myths into something people took for real?
@GirlTalkStation Yes, yes, I've read this too. I think she passed away before the film became famous. "The Execution of Mata Hari" 1920. People were too feeble to handle movies then, they obviously thought it was real. lol. Like Orson Welles.
@GirlTalkStation I finally came across evidence of Mata Hari's death, in Winter 1925, Ireland. Her death certificate is in her maiden birth name. The rumors of her husband were greatly exaggerated as well.
@goback3spaces There is rare film footage, yes. There was another sitting other than the one shown here, that captured a truer vision of her. Those photos were used to create her wax statue in San Francisco. Mata Hari was written about extensively during her career, reviews and descriptions of her performance. She was the first world-famous celebrity of the 20th century. She had grace, dignity, and was highly regarded. Those times were so inhibited, she could not have been successful otherwise.
I think the music matches the subject really well - very dramatic and sexy. Personally, I'm inclined to believe she was innocent. From what I've read about her, she was very enterprising and a fine linguist who spoke several languages. I would have loved to have seen her dance!

@Jekyl99999 Mata Hari is rumored to have been seated beside a man on a train from Germany to France who was a spy. She was arrested under suspicion, her luggage seized. The man insisted on being a fan and wanted to compensate for valuables in her luggage. In accepting money, suspicion grew. Apparently they used the circumstance to inspire awe for the public near the close of WWI. There is no evidence of a trial or an execution. A still from a 1920 film is mistaken for an actual execution photo.
@Jekyl99999 The man she was seated next to did not go to trial. They were detained because of War-Time security much like 9-11 airport procedures. She didn't know him. He felt it was his fault. This is also a rumor but feasible. Sources say her "mug shot" was actually her passport photo. I challenge you to produce 1 legal official government document of an actual case against Mata Hari. marrom1 - the powers that be executed Mata Hari BECAUSE she was sexy, Sexy equalled dangerous. Also, she was not a spy. It was a PR exercise designed to make the authorities look good.
Mata Hari would not have been a good spy. She did not have a place for pockets to hide her secrets. ^-^ Thanks for showing us this, Trudy Abler........ Tim SC USA
Mata Hari danced with strength, and exhibited great personal power and courage, during a time when women were given few options, and the human form had not yet been liberated as art or otherwise.
To GirlTalkStation: She did NOT die of a cold! That's absurd. She was executed by a firing squad in France. She had been framed. And although it's true she was not a spy - she worked as an exotic dancer - she was indeed involved in prostitution, although marginally
I read that the real Mata Hari shown here, was merely a dancer, actress and artist. She wasn't a prostitute or spy. She was arrested during World War I because a fan spoke to her on a trip from Germany to Paris and unfortunately, he WAS a spy. It stated her luggage was seized, and she was suspected of being the agent that her 'fan' was working with. She was railroaded in trial, and died in prison of a cold. The photo of her execution is from a distance because it's not really her but a vagrant.
She did NOT die of a cold! That's absurd. She was executed by a firing squad in France. She had been framed. And although it's true she was not a spy - she worked as an exotic dancer - she was indeed involved in prostitution, although marginally
@Peristerygr She was Dutch - Margarethe Geertruida Zelle. She was born in Leeuwarded in the Netherlands, and there is a statue in the town in her honour. Legend has it that on a warm summer-night, one can still heare the sound of the small bells she wore around her ankles when she danced so many years ago. A very iconic woman indeed....
Yes, and this would have been mainly the consequence from a plot made by a french officer, Ladoux. He suspected Mata was a spy to Germany, but in fact she - who also had become involved with the Kaiser's son - wanted to get some compensations, because when war began many possessions she had in Germany had been taken fom her.
Besides, she had a very "free" life, many of her lovers were mostly rich officers independently of their nation, she didn't adopt any cause for this or that country. So, Ladoux "invited" her to be a spy for the French against the Germans, what she really did, after demanding a generous amount.
But despite her amateurism, she got some information which in fact would be false, for her lover - a German baron - suspected Mata was a French spy and passed her the stuff to puzzle the enemies. When Ladoux saw these news he collected as a proof to incriminate Mata and ordered her arrest.
A time later after her execution, the prosecutor who had asked for Mata the capital warrant, being questioned by a journalist, confessed that in fact there was nothing - or nearly nothing - against her.
Would have been Mata Hari simply " a girl who loved boys in uniform"?
Very good images. I remember to see the penultimate one before: it's the scene of her shooting. And the music you chose gives your video a timeless flavor. Are the artists that played from a New Age group? At least I've got this impression. Thanks for the good job!
Yes, but the one who made this charge was her hysterical French accusers; whether that is true is cloaked in mystery, and we can't even be sure about whether she was even a spy. (Read previous comments for ideas.) YouTube disallows the posting of links, but you can also Google "Mata Hari was only interested in one thing - and it wasn't espionage" for a 2007 Daily Mail newspaper article. The last line quotes one of her prosecutors 30 years later: ""there wasn't enough evidence to flog a cat."
what was considered beautiful in those days was very different from now. I perfer women back then than i do now because now they are fake. not the natural beauty of back in the day
Saahira. it is always a good idea to read past comments (by hitting the "View all comments" link) to see if your question (about the music) has already been answered; you can see our host, miocase, has already responded to this query a year ago. (She or he wrote: "Maksim Mrvica - Nostradamus ")
The music you chose is extraordinarily appropriate and wonderfully dramatic...your editing is excellent. I have been reading extensively about Mata Hari...her real story is amazing!
I have found that usually the critics dont express what they really feel or wish deep inside... anyway it was just a story I wanted to put into images to call debate and as you can notice...I MADE IT!!! THANKS
even religion have considered it and justified or forgive certain sexual actions... I respect your opinions but pleazzzzzzz dont react as if you are jury members, every body has a glass roof hanging over the head, so dont throw stones at an unknown enemy...
it's only history guys, and you know there is a lot of uncertainty in every historical fact, you should also remember that beauty patterns change all the time along the history of mankind, fat ladies, thin ladies, thick eyebrows, no eyebrows, nudity and sexuality have gone from being the most natural facts of life to being taboo,
can someone please tell me why do scorpio have fatal life, first its marie antoinette now its mata hari, i don't think she was a spy, i think she was brutally betrayed..and thats just my opinion
She was brutalized by the press, and somehow chosen for a scapegoat. She did not have syphilus, she was never proven to be a spy at all, and they accused her of being a courtesan because she'd had benefactors. This woman was an excellent dancer. She brought Eastern Exotic dance to the West, and invented what would become Modern Dance. She also brought us Performance Art. She paved the way for the Entertainer. She was decades ahead of her time! People can be so barbaric! She did not deserve that.
did you know her personally jewish1972? I didnt... LOL... just know what the history says about her, anyways... ususally when women have a life like she is said having had, there are lots of opinions in favor and against, for me this is just uncertain interesting information....:-)
she wasnt a good dancer, & as a spy was even worse. Where lies the mythical in this german, or hollandish woman (was she from Germany or Netherlands, & what was her real name)?
OK GUYS..THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT AND EVEN FOR THE CRITICS, SORRY I DELAYED SO MUCH TO PUBLISH THE MUSIC TITLE AND AUTHOR..HERE IT GOES: Maksim Mrvica - Nostradamus
You may like to read about these ladies as well: Eleanora Dusa the mother of Modern dance. Josephine Baker(who took France by storm dancing nude in the 1920's and was Bessie Smith's maid). Sarah Bernhardt considered the greatest actress who ever lived. Lola Montes the Coutesean who nearly bought Bavaria and King Ludwig to their knees. and Last Lilli Langtree the celebrated U.S. actress who wowed them in the late 1880's. Particularly the hanging judge Roy Bean.
She didn't deserve to be sentenced to death, but she spied for the Germans. Some documents that are already available, show it clearly, that she has worked for the Germans under the name H21.
Her trial was unfair but Mata Hari should have know very well, what were the French laws by that time, and she took the risk. A risk that costed her life, just because she wanted to be rich. For money, she would do everything. A dancer, a prostitute of high caliber among Army officers and very rich men.
She was never buried, her body was donated or sold after the execution to the Medicine College of Paris to teach the practice of the autopsy to the students.
Donated and sold, maybe they should have Dr. Pedro Ara to do the preservation/ art, anyway he just seemed like the kind of guy who can pull that kind of eternal makeup task~
really informative and interesting

Have you ever heard of the expression,"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"?
Snowhite7midgets 2 years ago

The same could be said about your mother, patronforoutlaw.

what kind of music is this?
Please tell me this;-)
Mata Hari was the first "Tribaldancer" so I think ;-) and I think she was good in her profession.
Its a shame that she must die so young and beautiful.

Saahira. it is always a good idea to read past comments (by hitting the "View all comments" link) to see if your question (about the music) has already been answered; you can see our host, miocase, has already responded to this query a year ago. (She or he wrote: "Maksim Mrvica - Nostradamus ")

I have found that usually the critics dont express what they really feel or wish deep inside... anyway it was just a story I wanted to put into images to call debate and as you can notice...I MADE IT!!! THANKS

even religion have considered it and justified or forgive certain sexual actions... I respect your opinions but pleazzzzzzz dont react as if you are jury members, every body has a glass roof hanging over the head, so dont throw stones at an unknown enemy...
miocase 2 years ago 6
it's only history guys, and you know there is a lot of uncertainty in every historical fact, you should also remember that beauty patterns change all the time along the history of mankind, fat ladies, thin ladies, thick eyebrows, no eyebrows, nudity and sexuality have gone from being the most natural facts of life to being taboo,
miocase 2 years ago
uh no offense but she kinda looks like a man...

Where is her tomb in Paris?
Dorianclock 3 years ago 2
She has no tomb.
YeOldeTune 3 years ago
what do you mean?
Dorianclock 3 years ago
She was never buried, her body was donated or sold after the execution to the Medicine College of Paris to teach the practice of the autopsy to the students.
YeOldeTune 3 years ago
Donated and sold, maybe they should have Dr. Pedro Ara to do the preservation/ art, anyway he just seemed like the kind of guy who can pull that kind of eternal makeup task~
Dorianclock 3 years ago
She tried to be a spy, but she was inept. Which ultimately lead to her death.
