  • I love the fact this guy skipped his lunch so he could bring this mre home and include this kid in his army life like this.

  • AWSOME vid man!

  • It was cute when he asked thats what you use the knife for? lol

    "Thats one of the reasons"

  • where do you get theese

  • This video is cute. That guy is nice.

  • I love these things! I ordered a few cases of them. Other than the BBQ and Lasagna, they other stuff really isnt that bad. Most importantly, thank you for your service!

  • MRE's are really good. Everyone that hasn't tried them thinks they are disgusting but the truth is they are really good, except when eaten repeatedly they lose all appeal.

  • I love that little Tabasco! It's so cute.

  • Nice Kid!

  • Wonder what chef Gordon Ramsey would think of this? LOL!

  • is that a wornick mre?

  • i like this video thanks for posting...i love the boy!!

  • my parents uset to do that when thay where in the military. i wold just come home and thard be a mre on the table thay sed eat up boy haha

  • @thecannabislover420 i love MREs... i think they are awesome

  • not supposed to use the heater indoors. it gives off gasses that are toxic.

just a thought since your kid is like right there...

  • They redesigned the MRE recently. They used to be 2000calories+. But soldiers in bases were getting fat from eating them. The newer MREs are 1200-1300 calories and the military are designing a new ration called FSR which has about 2500 calories and is for frontline troops.

  • grape drank powder niceshit

    GRAPE DRANK

  • UK rat packs are 24 hour packs, meaning they will feed you for 24hours.

MRE's are single meals which means you really need 3 of these per day, in actual fact the brit packs are smaller once you find you have to lug around 3 MRE's.

The new brit 24h packs have now got a lot more variation in them, and a case costs around £60 of 10 packs which aint too bad considering 10 MRE's cost around £80 for 10 but have less food.

MRE's do taste better than most brit packs though :D

  • dammit when you compare the size of those to the british 24 hour mod rations mres make mod ration packs look huge

  • this was a really great video, neat family setting, i laughed a lot at jared...good stuff

  • for sure the omelete is the worst, the beef patty aint too bad though.

  • the mexican mac and cheese is really good

  • I wonder what's the worst MRE to eat? I have tried a few and liked them all but I never ran in to one that tasted bad yet.

  • Cheese Omelete is the worst. That MRE can be used as punshiment trust me.

  • I second that!

  • in the british ones most people despise the beef hash or the syrup pudding

  • I had an MRE in my hurricane kit and my 7 Y/O son likes to play soldier so, we watched this video while eating our own. We shared with my 3 Y/O daughter as well and we thought that it was very edible bordering on good. Maybe I got one of the good ones but, I could live on them for a very long time with no complaints.

  • big knives thats one of the reasons lol

  • I'm impressed you got the kid to eat it! I've tried to get my nephew to eat them and he won't even give it a chance! Cute kid by the way.

  • Holy crap. Your son pronounced "Teriyaki" correctly and he's like 6. Wow. :)

  • i remember my first mre....... it was cheese tortellini it was good try it but i am going to subscribe to you!really good job!!!

  • hm makes me whant to do one with our "MRE"...would be intresting to taste on of those tho :).

Do you always eat these in the field or is it just on longer "walkabouts"? and/or what els is there?

  • i like how the only edible thing in there was the thing he was exited about (the gum)

  • Haha, awesome. I live in the area that got hit by Hurricane Ike and I became familar with them. They ain't that bad.

  • Hey Thanks for your comment. The funny thing is that my son loves these things. But its very rare for him to have because of the calorie intake! Ton of hugs Mel

  • how many times can you heat up your foods like your drink enntree and sometimes your secondary meal

  • How do those heat packs work?

  • Just add water, it heats itself.

    Pretty neat.

  • It's some sort of reactive metal powder. When it comes in contact with water, it reacts and creates heat.

  • For the nerds out there this is called an Exothermic Reaction. In which the reaction releases HEAT as a product of the reaction.

I didn't know what an Exothermic Reaction was until I was in Jalalabad eating an MRE.

  • Thanks. :)

  • only thing i dont like aobut mre is the wheat bread dont taste good, lol

  • Haha, that was funny.

In Canada we have IMP's (Individual Meal Package) but nicknamed "I Might Puke", Haha. There not to bad, the worst part is the bread, so dry and dense. That heating pack is cool, IMP's don't come with those, you just place the bag in boiling water for 5 minutes, or eat it cold.

  • Hey Thanks for your comment, see I learned something new. Thanks for sharing and for the comment! Also for sharing the nick name, definately made me laugh! Ton of hugs Mel

  • Haha, nice, like how the MRE stands for meals refusing to exit

  • lmao

  • LOL .. I will remember this everytime I see one. Thanks for the comment. Ton of hugs Mel

  • was he ur husband? why clal him willam?

  • Maybe because the kid isn't his.

  • @SSGLuceyGirl MREs have a ton of nicknames

    Meals Rejecting by Ethiopians, etc.

  • ROFL!!!

  • man it looks yumy, I can't wait tell I eat it,mmmm yum

  • I personally haven't tried one, but its funny my son actually loves to eat them. Maybe its the whole novelty of it but he swears they are good Ton of hugs Mel

  • lol, i like mre's. Good kid and be safe

  • Thanks for your comment I appreciate it and I have to tell you he loves MRE's now - LOL Ton of hugs Mel

  • They should add a pack of purell or something.

  • Yea that is very true Good point I never thought about that before Ton of hugs Mel

  • Yes! He likes it! I'll say once and again, MREs are not a bad thing to eat.

  • That is what I have been told that they really aren't that bad - as well they have really improved from the past Tons of hugs ♥Mel

  • EPA=einmanpackung, german kind of MRE.

  • What's up with the gum? Why does it disintegrate after a couple of minutes?

  • look good, good familiy ^^ and i like mre ( i eat 24menu all )

  • Well Thank You so much Ton of hugs ♥Mel

  • MRE ist lecker und besser als das deutsche EPA.

    Mfg Manni

  • Sorry I only read and speak english Thanks for your comment Ton of hugs ♥Mel

  • isn't EPA a French ration used during combat?Thtas similar to the MRE?

  • EPA is the German ration. RCIR is the French one.

  • Im a Marine and im always doing field training. So i always eat MRe's. I dont like them but sometimes thats all there is.

  • Thanks for your service Its really appreciated beyond words could ever express Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • Thanks and to be honest they really didn't taste that bad, I was surprised that my son ate the whole thing and didn't demand the meal we were eating Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • Wow... we just don't know how to appreciate our servicemen. I guess our Billy has those... I'll have to ask him when he comes in again. Thanks to Jared and William for the great show.

  • Hey I'm so glad you liked the video That really means the world to me Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • Jared will always remember this! I have thought of buying those before for ememrgency. I didn't know they heated up like that! Give William our love!..your making great Memories Mel! :) your in our prayers! ((HUGS))

  • Thank you so much for keeping us in your prayers That means so much to us Also I really hope that Jared will always treasure these small moments because they really do mean the world, time is so limited Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • i remember eating these in JROTC...it was great.

  • I'm glad it brought back some memories That is great Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • Oh yeah, great stuff for one or two days, after that... your hungry. Will was right an apple would really sound good about day 3. Remember all this stuff gets inspected by the vetinarian, never really figured that out. I alwas thought it was like eating canned beanie weanies everyday.

Thanks to our soldiers and their sacrafices.

  • That is a little scary to read that its inspected by a vetinarian Honestly I couldn't imagine eating these day in and day out, especially there are so limited of choices and some I have heard taste horrible Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • Field cuisine has improved greatly. When I first enlisted, we were still getting C-rats. When MREs were first introduced, they were very low quality (and honestly not very healthy). Good to see they have improved the quality and selection over the last decade. Also, it was years before they developed the heating pack. But the pouches beat the heck out of all those cans with C-rats.

  • I can only imagine what the cans would of been like Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • great video as usual :) Jared is a cutie pie :D

    Kat

  • Aw Thanks Jared is my everything I don't know how I got so lucky Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • Thanks for sharing this with us, TJ liked watching it. This was a good learning experience for your son. We just adore the love your family shows for each other. HUGS

  • Hey guys I'm so glad TJ liked the video, I have been thinking about you guys a lot and hoping to get to the post office this week Things are still hectic on our end I'm so deeply sorry Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • ROFL William is so patient...

  • Isn't he, I would love to have that type of patience that he can display Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • I feel so OLD... I remember the canned ones that had little chocolate bars in them.

  • You not old at all, your young and beautiful Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • It's so great to see you all together, and hear you laugh! Very informative vid too! What a wonderful experience for your son...and William is so patient..I agree with PP..he'd make a great teacher!

  • Thanks Sweetie We are just trying to spend as much quality time as possible, this deployment is going to creep up on us faster then we hope Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • what a great thing to teach your son! Your husband would make a fantastic teacher. Thanks for sharing this video!

  • Thank You so much I know William always talks about maybe becoming a History Teacher when he retires from the military Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • my best friend, adam, used to eat those all the time for no reason. they grossed me out

such a cute vid. william rocks

  • :P LOL that is funny about your friend I couldn't imagine really eatting them unless it was a necessity It was hard enough just taken the bite they forced on me Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • What makes them heat up like that?

  • That is a good question I asked William and he only stated its a chemical reaction mixed with the water It really is amazing to watch them heat up though Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • He is such a good dad. i had a mre once vanel my cousin brought it back from the field!

  • Thanks What did you think about it when you tried it Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • Aww, great video!

  • Thank You so much It was fun to make especially watching Jared with his MRE experience Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • Awesome video!!! I have heard so many stoies about MRE's from my hubby.... he had his favorites too. Years ago we use to take them camping ... worked great!

    Hugs and stuff, Martha

  • It has been years, actually since I was a little girl that I have been camping Its something I would love to do but I think I would give William a run for his money LOL Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • Oh, ugh. We didn't have bread in ours, only crackers. The cheese was something to fight over though! That one sounded pretty good. I don't want jam, give me my cheese! Do they still come with those nasty cheapo Charms? Man I hated those things but you'll eat anything in the field...

  • Hey Okay I waited to respond to you so I could find out but according to William they no longer have them, but he said its still the same thing about fighting over the cheese LOL Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • They don't HAVE THEM ANYMORE? Man, joe is moving up in the culinary world I guess. Has he shown you how to make an MRE bomb yet? I never did, so I'm still waiting on Carl to bring me an MRE so I can do it on video.

  • MRE's aka Meals refused by the enemy!!! Around our house we keep some to use when the electricty goes out. I don't have any favorites myself. My husband says as long as he can use his camping stove, he isn't going to starve, LOL. He refuses to touch the stuff anymore since he has been retired.

  • I never really thought about keeping them in the house but I could of used that when we lived in Florida LOL Great idea about the camping stove As you can tell I'm still new at being a military wife Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • Jared seemed a bit skeptical! I was extremely interested and grateful. Someone gave me some MREs, and after all their warnings about be careful, be sure to 'cook' it outside, etc., I was scared to try them! Now, thanks to William, I will be a MRE cookin fool! I understand they are a LOT better now than they were 20 years ago. Big hug to everyone, Vicky

  • LOL I couldn't imagine 20 years ago and should ask my dad (He is retired army) But it was really interesting to watch it because to be honest it was the first time I have ever seen it It didn't taste to bad either They forced me to try it Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • That was SOOOOO sweet and special. I was in tears by the end of it! I used to have an upstairs tenant that was in the Army and one day when my Son was visiting for the summer (I think he was 12) the tenant brought my son a huge box of MRE's. My son was in boy heaven! He thought that was the coolest thing ever. He's in Highschool now and still talks about that guy and those MRE's. Thank you for sharing this! and Thank you to William for his service! xoxoxooxoxox

  • Aw That is such a great story and I love how that soldier just really had a effect on your son's life Its amazing just the smallest things can have the biggest meaning Thanks for telling me about this story and I'm glad you liked the video Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • That was pretty interesting to watch. A normal person has no idea how their meals are on the field. Great vid.

  • I have to tell you that I really didn't even know myself It was so great to really see it and learn a little bit more of what he goes through He keeps a lot of things from us LOL Its like being married to a super hero Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • Man it's been a while since I have seen that. My ex was in the army and he went to the army surplue and bought some raions home one time. He heated beefstew in the bag and I think chicken soup which wasn't half bad, but my favorite were those jolly rancher/lifesaver candies they have. Great vid!

    ~ Roberta ~

  • LOL If William ever get those I will have to make him bring that home for me try Thanks Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • BTW I asked William and they no longer have those candies anymore Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • Jared is so cute and adventurous! =) It's so cool how the heating bag works! Imagine army food 100 years ago! Or food on SHIPS 100 years ago! EW! =p

  • I was really worried he wouldn't try it so I had some pork chops and potatos waiting for him just in case LOL but he ate the whole thing I was shocked He was a great sport about it Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • Mel, I love how you instantly became invoved in the conversation when the matches came out. Also, William said, just pull this tab and the next thing we see is his knife at work. Thanks for sharing.

  • LOL Yea my mom side came out really fast with those matches I couldn't help it I had to edit out William having trouble opening up the MRE down to trying to opening up with his teeth, so he ran to get his new knife Tons of hugs ♥Mel®

  • That heat thing is amazing! It doesn't sound very appetizing :( Poor William. God Bless all the soldiers!

  • Wasn't that neat, I actually learned a lot and it was interesting to see some what William gets to eat @ times Tons of hugs ♥Mel®
