She is a beautiful musical genius. I can't speak to her husky souful voice...truly God given...appreciate the fact she still struggles with "debilitating stage-fright" (hope that's part of the doc.) :) Hence I imagine her unique piano & guitar gift. Love those who love true music! Thanks for sharing!
I still can't decide whether I prefer Joni's guitar or piano accompaniment versions of this great song . She is just such a great musician as well as songwriter !
Joni, sweet Joni, she just leaves you lost for words really.....Practically everyone walks in her wake....If people had truelly listened and acted on what she had said so eloquently in her lyrics, back in the sixties, the world would be in a far better situation today.Thankyou for sharing this wonderful concert with us all.
considering that she's essentially correct, we ARE stardust, this beautiful expression of human compassion is truly amazing. we are the remnants of supernovas, which created all the elements in the universe heavier than hydrogen and helium. so YES we are stardust! thanks, joni.
Joni... sigh... a million listeners grope for words to express the sanctuary she gives them... how to be so open... aging vanguard... what will we do when all the children of that golden age are gone? ...gasp and grip video screens like junkies.
the guitar she's playing is an electric called "Parker" - they've stopped making them, but I regret not getting one myself: Lots of sounds & tone from that little thing.
IMO, it's a given that Joni is the single greatest singer-songwriter, but this version demonstrates what an awesome guitarist she is too. So much expression, and intricate touches in her playing... amazing. I hope more people begin to recognise the genius, and the influence, of her creativity
Joni is so lucid and articulate. I loved this documentary. Never knew she wasn't at Woodstock... or that she had a baby at a young age. Thanks for posting this video!
henhenstoll; Why can't I find the Shadows & Light version in internet anymore? It's my favorite version. Where can I find it? Thanks for uploading all this stuff, GBY!
"And I dreamed I saw the bombers riding shotgun in the sky, turning into butterflies above our nation" Oh God, God, a lifetimes has passed and there is no peace in sight, I still dream about it.
One of my biggest regrets in regards to concert-going, is that I never got a chance to see Joni live, although I have been a fan for 40 years! This video makes up for that lack. Thank you so much ! Yes, her voice has changed a lot since her youthful soprano. Comparing it to wine is perfect. It has gone from the clean, crispness of Strawberry Hill to the complexities of a smoky Merlot ! We love you Joni!
I think her voice is just different, I like both her young voice and her old voice, but for some songs she needs the new one and for some others she needs the old voice. but for some songs, both voices fit and make the song different
Butterflies across our nation and the devil's bargain ... the cycle keeps repeating; fabulous rendition - some Jaco Pastorius licks too; wow! thanks for letting us share the groove...
Joni blames voice nodules, a compressed larynx, and the lingering effects of having had polio. Why didn't they affect her before. She should just admit that she loves the ciggies but it has had consequences on the thing she loves to do: sing.
Polio has the side effect of reappearing later in life... after living nearly symptom free many victims find that later, in their 40's and after symptoms exacerbate. I am a DOCTOR and know this. and you can verify this on the internet
smoke a j to this and light inscents after a long day at the office and you'll feel like never going back to work, instead i feel like finding that garden
There are reports people have been healed from ailments by merely listening to Joni's songs -- Did You know that the *host* of this video(and a wealth of more with J.M.), Henry, is "only" 16 years(plus maybe a little bit)old? Great that Ya like it, hey welcome to the cult;)
Greetings to Italy! Isn't She like a fiery precious old wine? I know you Italians appreciate great wines -- and Goddesses like Ms Mitchell. Blessed be!
it's tuned quite low. i can't quite tell what it's tuned to, but it sounds like it's CGCXXX i dunno what the upper strings are tuned to, they're low, though
Fuck me that voice and guitar!! Pure Bliss!

This is a great Joni guitar version. She plays and sings so beautifully !
Her piano based version on her orginal recording on the " Ladies of The Canyon" album, is also fantastic. Any wonder CSNY had to cover it.
