I have no clue as to what the producers of this movie were thinking. Apparently it had nothing to do with 'A Chorus LIne" - whose main charms were the simplicity of the set, the lack of special effects, and the overall Spartan nature of the venue. A play that focuses on internal story and monologues does NOT benefit from all the tinsel and glitter. Over-directed and overproduced - badly - and miscast with Douglas.

While in high school I was obsessed with this show, even to the point when I attempted to teach the "One" combination to the show choir. Hopefully, they will forgive my insanity. I did eventually get to perform in this show as Mark, and then almost fifteen years later I choreographed a production of it in Atlanta, GA.... Now all I have to do is perform the role of Val and my life will be complete.

I never understood why they had Audrey Landers in a movie about dancing. She's a singer and actress, not a dancer. If you look closely in all of the complicated dance numbers in the movie, she isn't even in the scenes most of the time; they sneak her in for a few simple steps but take her out for most of the dance numbers. Couldn't they have found an actress/singer/dancer for her part?

It did. The revival ended this past August after a 2-ish year run on Broadway. Since then, there has been a national touring company which has much of the same cast as the Revival.

webcomix n coloh08, I agree in part; I think the direction/editing of this number is perfect for showing, as you say, the anonymity if the auditionees, but I do think the song could have been given more profundity in choreography/direction at the beginning in order to reflect how much this means to the characters. However, when you consider the tone of the rest of the film and the 'simplicity' (if i think that's what you mean?) of the number, it's spot on for it's context.

I totally agree with webcomix. It was changed too much. The melody was seriously altered and the pauses are extremely annoying. They moved the choreography from dancing to all those tricks. Also, in the movie, the whole plot was changed from the love of dancing to Cassie's love for Zach! That is totally ridiculous. If you have seen the play you will know what I mean. It's charm is gone in this.

I felt as if they butchered this song. Too many pauses, and when it is sung, it rushes at times. Too much hat tricks and the dancing, at times, is not so unified. Too identifiable. The point of this song is to show that although you got to know the characters as idividuals, they ultimately will become anonymous as the chorus line, the ensemble members, those that people don't really notice behind the leads.

This will probably get negatives from the movie fans, but it's my opinion.
