Richard Strauss himself favoured many singers such as Ursuleac and Jeritza who were never well known for their perfect intonation either. You just need to listen to their recordings.

but then of course solti never liked her. part of her appeal is the hysteria and neuroses which comes across so effectively especially in her brilliant upper register(which if you hear objectively from her best years you should appreciate) do you not think its adds a special dimension to characters such as chrysothemis and senta?

Why was she a star again? She is always so off pitch and sloppy. Her final notes are a huge problem.
