No, but I have alot of turkish friends. Most of them have similar features with Greeks. The only difference maybe my Turkish friends prefer to keep their facial hair while the Greek ones do not. In fact, articles written by history scholars show that Ottoman Empire was multicultural. Even the sultans themselves were half Greek and half Turkish.
@thefoamycherry They were not wives, though. They were slaves. Once they had a kid with the sultan it was out the window with them and on to the next lady. Not kidding, this was how it worked. The only one that somehow managed to stay afloat was Roxelana, who actually managed to get married (!) with Suleyman the Magnificent. The harem must have been a miserable place with all those claustrophobicized women fighting to have their kids make it.
Ottoman Sultans came from bloodlines of the last byzantine emperor, even they use title of Ceaser because of that but..Both nation choose to hide that:)
as a fact being Turk,Greek,Armenian etc etc was not an issue there was no ethinic difference among people at least not predominantly until France revolution.
i dont believe in the bloodline thing, but sultans' wifes were chosen from the christian minority, like greeks, armenians, serbs.
but until "suleiman the magnificent", the wifes of sultans were turkish. even the first sultan of the empire had eyes of a "tatar" (they look like mongolian or chinese a little).
You dont need to believe it,in Ottoman Archieves you can find it Orhan Ghazi made a pact with Byzantine Emperor, and married with his Girl.
Like it or not that is the truth, also Mehmet II hanged a lot of Turkish Pasha's,Because Ottomans always afraid Turkic rivalry therefore they always get their wifes out of the Turkic influence area, and there was no rivalry against ottomans.
Ottomans was Muslim, they barely called theirself as Turk.Even today member of the Dynasty called theirself ottoman.
well yes, and in ottoman empire, a real turk couldnt get into the government or get a high rank in army."the ottoman house" is not turk, but muslim. but the majority of the people lived in the ottoman empire, was the turk.
and when the nationalist movement began in 1910s-1920s,the ottoman sultan didnt support it,and actually he did a lot of thing against the turkish nation.
most of the turks now, dont wanna accept the fact that ottoman sultans were not turkish. but it's true and i know it =)
Ottoman sultans and court were Turkish and Turkish speaking. The majority of the poeple living in Ottoman Empire were not Turks, we Turks controlled much much more people then our own people, from Algeria, till Hungary, all were in our hands. Just like Great Britain controlled hundreds of millions of people.
how old is this song? the music is the same as a greek song made by refugees from constantinople. this is fascinating and beautiful. what is the song saying?
you do realize that current turkey's turkish people are a group of mixed greeks and turks right? It is possible that both ethnics absorb and adopt each other customs such as foods, clothing and music

you can not differentiate two different culture just by facial hair.
lorena3082 2 years ago
No, you dont get what I mean. Go read the papers. That is one of the differences but they share more common things back then than differences.

You have right.
Look at the army: bosnian, greek, albanian, serb, bulgarian, arabic, circassian, arabic, kuridsh and turkish soldiers.
Economy: manly greek, jewish and armenian people.
Government: armenian, arabic, greek, kurdish, turkish, albanian, bulgarian, serb, circassian and bulgarian people.
Sultans: from every ethnic
TravelMagazine 2 years ago
yeah but this is after 1700s.
between 1200s and 1600s, sultans, soldiers, tycoons, and goverment were turkish.
and there were no kurdish at that time. kurdish are a mixture of persians and arabs. so there is not even a nation named "kurdish".
but you are right. after 1700s, the sultans and the government were muslims from christian descent. the wives of sultans made this happen :D
