  • An excellent film in poor weather conditions. I noticed at Ashton Moss that the old 1500V dc gantries are still up. You'd thought with the price of scrap metal being so high that Network Rail would've taken them down and sold them fro scrap. Barry

  • @bkendlerA4 Thanks Barry. The weather wasn't as bad for the Cumbrian Mountain Express as it was for the Scarborough Flyer the day before. I think that the gantries are still up for the whole of this short section (for the moment at least) through to Guide Bridge where the Manchester - Sheffield trains passed through. Don't want to be giving Network Rail ideas though lol.

  • another masterpiece, you're getting good at this, I can tell... like the photography, and the semaphor signal zoom and it return to danger, great, cheers.

  • @noelist Thanks again Leon. That's a great compliment, thank you. Yes I chose Ashton Moss for the semaphores as I had seen other excellent clips filmed from here, and it's just 5 - 10 minutes away from me. I wanted to film a closer, more front on view of the signal box with the 5 passing behind but most of this area has been fenced off. Still, this view was a fantastic view regardless.

  • Good stuff David. That sounds like a nasty slip as Lizzie goes under the bridge at Herod. All very atmospheric shots thanks to the weather and your choice of locations. Chris

  • @khankadet Thanks Chris. I wouldn't be surprised if the wheel slip was caused by the wet rails, especially under the shelter of the bridge and trees at that point. There was a lovely bit of wheel slip from the 5 too at Ashton Moss. I did want a different angle to film the 5 from at Ashton Moss, but I think this location worked the best in the end

  • Brilliant video there mate! I went to denton last night to see the tour, I knew I wasn't going to be awake for the morning arrival! Was about 15 minutes late in evening with the diesel added at hellifield.

    5*

  • @thegoldenarrow1995 Thank you. I was out last night so couldn't get back to Denton to film her return, but 45305's morning performance here more than made up for it.

  • @stephengthompson Cheers Steve. The weather was better yesterday than it was on Friday, but it was still damp, though the Sun was trying its best to break through. But, yes, all in all it adds to the video. My only disappointment at Ashton was that I couldn't cross the road to film the 5's impressive approach. Still, it's very reminiscent of "The Lady Killers" and I like it for that!!

  • Superb video David as events happened, you got Lizzie going well in the damp weather at Herod and the twilight shot at Mossley was very atmospheric. 45305 performed for the crowd at Denton and a very nice departure at Ashton by the 5.

    Regards Phil.

  • @981smithy Cheers Phil. The footplate of Lizzie looked to be the driest and warmest place to be on Friday, and I was particularly pleased with the efforts of the 5 as she joined the main line at Ashton. You could hear her from quite a distance there, which is why, at around 06:54, I let the camera roll as you can hear her.
