  • awesome video have you seen EDINBURGH - A time lapse by RichteaV have a look good video also

  • Two years later, I'd still pay for an HD version. However, I seem to remember reading that an HD version would be impossible because the original resolution isn't that high? I could be making up that memory. Anyway, hope you're still creating.

  • Spellbinding

  • love the night shots makes me sad because i miss edi so much

  • Beautiful, thank you for all your hard work, I really enjoyed watching it :)

  • WOW... A Timelaps Master indeed. You should get an Oscar for 04.15.

  • Beautiful! I'm gutted I did not do it myself! :P

  • unbelievable, perfect, amazing million times

  • so GREAT! .

  • This is an outstanding piece of work. It deserves a much wider audience. Congratulations.

  • It is rather pleasingly hypnotic to watch the usually slow sky and horizon sped up like this.

  • @photolitherland yeap, have to agree as I come back every few months to watch it. I always wonder if the moonlit tree at the end is on Arthur's seat as I run there every week, and in the winter when its very dark, that's what it looks like because of the flood lights at Meadowbank illuminating that side of the hill. As for the tenements....Bruntsfield?

  • @photolitherland

Thanks man. Gonna get that comment printed onto a t shirt

  • Truly remarkable

  • Very nicely done

  • Very beautiful.. Am so glad I can listen to this. :)

  • Stunning piece of work. Inspiring images. Edinburgh never looked so good!

  • Stunning! The end from 5:37 is jaw dropping...

  • Stunning!

  • Came back to this video again recently; still very powerful. I've been learning more about film myself in my studies, of course, and I'm a tad gutted you don't have a slightly better resolution for this at moments! Especially the closing moments would look wonderful in 720p or higher.

But it's still beautiful after all this time! Though my only question is, what do the 33 twats who dislike this have against it exactly?

  • @AlsatiaZevo

Similar end to film Consolation (meltec film) if that helps

    Thanks

  • wow!

  • one of the most fascinating chord progressions i've ever heard

  • Absolutely amazing scenery.

I've lived in Edinburgh for 28 years and with a lot of the people growing an ugly nature within, you've given me a gift to see our city like we never get to see it. Beautiful.

Thank you for making my morning, again. I've watched and listened to this countless times. Never tiring.

    Excellent work. 5*

  • wow, what great video. ....spechless

  • No HD version? I'd buy it.

  • @apologiate07 If a HD version is available I think it would be great if it was uploaded.

This video is so fantastic it's the reason I made a youtube account just so I could rate this video!

    Thank you so much!

  • @DarkQuester

Thanks for that. Glad you enjoy it. Well the only reason I dont have HD version is the whole film was shot in 640 360 so would make little difference. We will be posting more new stuff soon, how soon is any ones guess.

    Thanks again

  • @meltec2

Awesome, because I still come back to this short now and then. Looking forward to the new material.

  • Wow , just really great job....amazing video......:))

  • my favorite is from 1:12 to 1:34,

was that fire across the First of Forth a part of the Beltane Festival?

    It's so mystical..

  • Certainly looks mystical but is in fact 'flare off' from Ethylene Plant outside Cowdenbeath!!.......Sorry if I dissillusioned you!

  • well, if that smoke comes from an ethylene plant, there is still something charming in it, industrial art ??

    just joking..

    thanks for making me aware.

  • one of the greatest minimalists of all time...

  • maravilloso, la cagó.

    Really really cool ;p

  • You're making me homesick! Gorgeous!

  • Simply Wonderful!

    Greetings from Brazil.

  • Wonderful

  • The best thing i've seen on youtube ... what an effort ! About 3 minutes on I was starting to think, this might soon become a bit too long, but i kept watching as the shots managed to become more and more amazing. Also, it's great how some of the most beautiful stuff is free, just look up and frame the sky ...I would love to know a bit about technique (lenses used, panning during timelapse) if that's not proprietary ... either way, hat's off, superbly brilliant film!

  • Great how you have done this, also brilliant to see my home town, from a far away place. :D

  • Hello there, I just want to say i think this video is fantastic and I love how you manipulated the location to get that material. I have a question concerning the Violin Concerto. I myself am about to film a surrealist film in Edinburgh, and I was going to use this as a soundtrack to a part of it. Now, for this recording, did you get copyright permission? And If you did, what did you have to do for that? Thanks a lot.

  • was this shot on film or digital?

  • excellent, very excellent.

  • im sorry but this is pretty boring. mockmoon's ones are better, he's actually gone to capture nature.. all you've done is filmed some clouds :P good job though

  • this is so amazingly beautiful, i don't know what to say.

ewen, you're a GENIOUS!!! the music, the shots... everything, just breathtaking!

  • Brilliantly done. Great photography.

  • Superb! Thanks for your effort and for sharing this!

  • I am sitting here speechless. This is the only place I want to be.

  • Simply wonderful. Great video as well Meltec.

Living in Edinburgh as i do it is nice to see the city being portrayed like this

The rainbow about 2 mins in is lovely

...I especially like the large fluffy clouds

with it and just before it. ^_^

  • BRILLIANT

  • Bravo! Outstanding! Been a weather geek all my life. Excellent work on the cumulus formation and rain shafts and the camera pans- but the stars thru the trees; superb!

  • Only a true artist would make a video like this...

Have never seen my hometown in this way before and it s just beautiful.

    Fantastic job.

  • This video is touching. Many people try to make their 'qatsi', but you succeeded.

The part with the trees at nighttime is almost magical!

  • It's very beatyful , I almost cried );

  • this is amazing. what was your setup when you filmed these?

  • simply wonderful

  • Wowm well done... Thats actually impressive...

  • wow Edinburgh is beautiful love it

  • wow teh music is perfect and the video is woooooooooooooooonderfulll!!!!

  • simply beautiful....

  • Mate, awesome video. I'm a lifelong fan of Philip Glass.

I'm currently contemplating a short film in which I want a portion of time-lapsed filming of a person in a room (to indicate the passage of time) - could you perhaps elucidate to me how you went about doing some of this stuff? The less technical the better!

Consider it as friendly tips from one Scotsman to another!

  • No doubt your work can absolutely be compared with the mastery of Ron Fricke - bravo! I particularely enjoyed the amazing moon shots as well as your new ideas like the floating boats and the rainbow. The music synchronization was also very well thought out. Thanks for sharing!

  • Wow, amazing man!! What camera did you use? :-)

  • a Canon a40!

  • gorgeous!

  • The whole thing was spectacular but that moon sequence was brilliant and Glass is a genius of course.

  • That's pretty hot stuff - and i totally love the Philip Glass score it's similar to his work on Mishima (or have I just said something stupid there?).

    Love it!

  • My hat is off to you sir! Nice to see that patience truly is a virtue. Very impressed with your shots over einburgh, you got great height and spectacular cloud movement. Did you use lighting for the trees and stars footage?

  • This is magnificent. I was born and raised in Edinburgh and the clouds were always there. I never believed they could be so beautiful. Some of these frames would make amazing still photographs. Thank you for sharing such vision.

  • Incredible! Love it! Keep on the good work!

PS: What camera did u use because the quality is amazing!

  • very good

  • cool music

  • 2 years??

    amazing work...dang...

    :D

  • not to people who enjoy seeing the beauty of life.

  • You just don't understand do you?

  • this is amazing!

would love to know what kind of equipment u used

  • just beautiful thank you so much

  • I really need to learn more about these panning time lapse shots...they are so intriguing. any resources you could recommend? I bet you just loved the Planet Earth series...greatest show ever...don't you wish you could just borrow their cameras for a while?

  • This video is absolutely gorgeous!

  • The ones with the rain clouds really did it for me. Looks amazing from this perspective - like some giant is watering the towns. Same goes for the sunlight peeping through the clouds - someone shining a torch down upon the towns.

    Amazing :)

  • Fantastic work.

  • awesome. congratulations on this.

  • 4:44 i always see that star that looks like an aero..how weird. and i live all the way in canada..

  • Its the constellation Orion

  • The clouds look like explosions :)

  • i live in edinburgh :D

thats a pretty awesome video :D

  • yeh its nice and its Edinburgh but its too damn cloudy there. i guess thats good for the making of this video

  • I absolutely love videos like this. Very awe-inspiring. I hope we can see more videos of this caliber. If anyone else is into these things (and I know you are) get "Planet Earth" on DVD. Brilliant

  • Absolutely beautiful!! This is where i get my inspiration from when I need it. And the music couldn't have been better!

  • 5 STARS!

I started making single frame animations on my 8mm film camera in the early 1960s... It would take an entire day to capture a very short scene, doing the single clicks frame by frame by hand. I'm excited that computers and great software allow for people like you to make wonderful and insiring videos like this.

I was in Edinburgh last month... wish I would have brought my camcorder now.

Check out my humble videos (especially my memorial video for my father...)

    TuuTuuTango from Texas

  • Nice work there meltec2.

  • Absolutely enrapturing! You captured well the strange beauty of life. Thanks so much for all your efforts!
