  • Poor bass player, just exiled off to the side like that. He was probably thinking, "I wish my name was John. But no one would want to name their group Peter, Paul, Mary, and Emmerich..."

  • 0:42 omg It's Nicholas Cage!! o-:

  • PPM elevated folk music to an art form. Their legacy will live forever.

  • What a nice instrumental accompaniment with great timing, great harmony, nice minor/major transitions - I just keep coming back to this one over and over - WOW!

  • in the real world your family is much more likely to stand by you than your 'true love' who will jenny craig your wallet and run off with your best friend

  • how can anyone of music not like this...woW

  • Yes, I have listened to a trio with great talent.....Peter,Paul & Mary!

  • RIP Mary Travers we will always have the memory of your beautiful music!

  • lost for words,,,,legends..............

  • Beautiful

  • Thought provoking. Have we become a society, going to see someone hang rather than bringing them hope?

  • PETER,PAUL,MARY,SIMON & GARFUNKEL...

The world is already blessed with this...but i will come back in time and ask them to create a group together...

  • Wonderful singing!! Have purchased a CD of PP& M ary's singing

  • Perfection. Wish I could stop time. I would not have let Peter Paul and Mary grow old. They are at their best on this song.

  • Simply Awesome.

  • Haunting and Beautiful,

  • Beautiful harmonies

  • Mary.... Such a gorgeous women and she didn't even have to become famous with a sex tape like so many of today's "Stars"

  • for any wrestling fans on here, does peter remind you of tommy dreamer?

  • @wainwright3 could you try to find the "extended" version with peter's introduction and post that, as well?

  • 11 dislikes.... nazis!

  • i love PP&M but hearing their songs reminds me of how they aged SO much, like watch their live bids, they are like aging so much, and then thinking that mary died makes me think of death even more....

and btw, are alot of their songs already made and they redid them?

  • despite the fact they're known as peter paul and mary, they were only ever given two mic's!!!?

  • God, they were amazing.

  • Noel Paul Stookey is such an amazing harmony singer. Such seemless harmony that you often have to listen hard to find his voice. He fills out the three part harmony perfectly. Just love that guy.

  • That is singing and music as it was ...you could actually understand what they were singing about .A true treasure

  • Beautiful. Thank you to the poster, but would it be possible to add the names of the authors of the music & lyrics, and if possible the lyrics too?

  • Back to the pure basics. Three great singers with superb acoustic accompanyment and equally as good live as in the studio. Love 'em to bits.

  • one of my top songs

    truly sang from heart

  • Absolutely thrilling. The more you listen to this clip the better it gets. I grew up with PPM but I was too young in the 60s to really appreciate them. Then I forgot about them for decades. Now seeing this wonderfully restored video (and some others here) I can see how good they really were, especially when they were young like this.

Absolute perfection and a joy to watch. What wonderful talented people, and I am so sorry Mary is gone.

And a great bass player too!

  • @bilahn Hell you are the bringer of sad tidings. It was always my dream that they would come to my neck of the woods (no matter how old they may be). I didn't know Mary had passed away. F%*k.

  • brings a kind of sadness but a little hope as well to me

  • I wish they had never abandoned their beatnik look.. Its fits them perfectly!

  • o mundo ficou mais triste sem Peter Paul and Mary

  • I find it sad that they are not teaching songs like this in school anymore.

  • Whatever happened to folk music?? I miss it !! Time to get out my old records and listen to a few!!

  • @sabrakatz

Fleet Foxes are a promising young group that performs and writes folk music - I love this genre. It moves something unseen within me. I was just a wee child when I first heard PPM and still cherish their haunting voices, their amazing heartfelt performances.

  • that was a lonG time ago;; i was only 4 gee

  • yea i agree a youger Nicolas Cage

  • A Classic Oldie. My sister, her friend and I got 2nd prize in a talent show singing this in 1966. LOL

  • Peter looks like Nicolas Cage here.

    d&r

  • Will love and miss you forever dear Mary.Godbless Peter and Paul.Still love you guys.

  • Enjoy this nostalgia as it will never be this good ever again.

  • What legends! No one does it like then!

  • They are what is know as classic legends.

  • i like this version a lot more than the studio version.

  • pure simple perfection.

  • Zeppelin does this song. Its called "swingn on the gallows pole." What a great song! These guys are Amazing.

  • Dear Mary left the group to sing with the Angels.

  • Show's true love and lovely experience. r.i.p Mary may the music heaven shine upon you.

  • Haunting and Beautiful.Rest in Peace dearest Mary.God Bless you Peter and Paul, may god keep you here for many more years.Still love you after all these years.Best singing group of the 60's and 70's.Not many beautiful like this left anymore.J Stewart Canada.

  • This a new song to me and I am a leftover hippie from the 60's. It is made magic by three of the greatest singers of all time. I must find a album with this song on it now so that I can share it with my friends.

  • @kjohns2001 The album is on iTunes, so it'll be around in person somewhere.

  • PPM were one of a kind. Thank You Mary. Rock n Roll heaven is a bit richer with you there.

  • Beautiful!

  • Lovely song and great performance. Thanks for posting!

  • Superb

  • this is my first time to hear this song. omg, i couldn't help but be teary eyed... they are the best trio i've ever known...

  • At fifty years young my heart has never missed a beat. That was until now. A truly heavenly experience.

  • fantastic,wonderful,passion play interpretation.

  • Lovely version. I'd only heard the Eddie/Finbar Furey version (Oh the prickly bush)

  • Their music were haunting. Message and sounds are timeless. They r my mom's genre...but I LOVE PPM...Also, love Mary's vocal on Tiny Sparrows...

  • Fantastic song, I can recall listening to their songs on the radio as a very young child in the 60s. Loved them then, still do.

  • Class! Class! Class!

The greatest musical trio in history

  • @piesken Nope Peter Paul and Mary are amazing greatest trio of alltime!

  • I don´t remember this! But--it´s good!

  • Have you ever listened to a trio with such an exceptional gift?

  • @preruminator Nope they are truly amazing! Could listen to them allday!

  • Wow - SO YOUNG! They were soooo good! No wonder everyone loved them.

  • OMG!

    Thats so beautiful!

I wish the music form today could be like this!

    Thats really good Music!!

    Greetings from Germany!

  • @Stargazar

A lot of the nusic of today is sit, but that h been all the time.

Also not every piece of PPM is as good as the best are.

The mighty of their performance is the harmony thy present, and their professional attitude.

The world would be poorer without them

  • One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard! RIP Mary . . .

  • The beautiful Mary will be sadly missed, but thankfully we still have Joan Baez, still going strong, after a career stretching back more than 50 years.

  • Oh wow! First time I'd heard this. Beautiful, just beautiful.

  • Tonight in Person 1966

  • It is so spine tinglingly good when Mary sings the part of True Love at the end with her otherworldly voice. Such a talent.

  • Wow this is good!

  • Ms. Goldberg described the inspiration offered by Peter, Paul and Mary, who took politically pointed songs like Blowin in the Wind and If I Had a Hammer to the Top 10: She told the crowd: They said: This belongs to you. This land is your land. If you dont like whats going on, get up and say something. Get up and sing. Get up and march.

  • The speakers addressed a capacity crowd of 2,000 people, who applauded as Ms. Traverss liberal ideals and political activism were invoked, and who joined her former band mates, Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey, on every word of the groups 1969 hit Leaving on a Jet Plane.

  • i love this. did they write this song? or is it a folk song?

  • It's an old folk standard.

  • Stunning performance!

  • One of the most beautiful songs full of meaning..... just beautiful !

  • Prophecy in the Bible says that father will come against son, son against father, mother against daughter, daughter against mother, etc.. There will be no natural love shown among people, no compassion, mercy, forgiveness, etc.. This is a walking away (apostasy) from God's love, therefore, a walking away (apostasy) from love of neighbor. Judgment & condemnation of each other has taken love's place. True love brings hope . It forgives ! Beautiful song !!!

  • Beautiful song performed with beautiful voices even if the words are somewhat serious.. Peter Paul and Mary will always be my favorite folk group of all time.

    I love them!!!

  • I hate it that the guy was saved by his 'true love' at the end, he was obviously a rat to the rest of his family.

  • I never thought about it like that. Still don't. He was saved by his true love because her love transcended all other.

  • three as one, harmonies a perfect

  • If you look around, you can find this song done by Hudie Ledbetter (Leadbelly) back in the thirties, named Gallis Pole. It was also done on Led Zeppelin III, as Gallows Pole. Same song , three completely dofferent impacts

  • What are you talking about? Because they got older and fat they are "ridiculous"? I'm more impressed than ever that they kept with it and grateful they did. Obviously you are young and don't know better yet.

  • You are right, tubetrekker30. We ALL get old. Some of us get sick, some of get fat. Very few make a contribution like Peter Paul and Mary. Or Elvis. I hate it when he is criticized for being fat.

  • How bout that innocent television he shot?

  • Well, there was that. I was listening to the radio the other day as they interviewed one his entourage. Apparently Elvis watched as Robert Goulet sang the National Anthem. He was drung as a skunk and forgot the words. Elvis thought it was a disgrace to and an insult to America. So, he shot the TV. I think he shot other TV's when Mr. Goulet appeared.

  • "what a moron" your mother must think when she looks at you

  • Your mom must think 'Who fathered this one,the garbage man, the Jehovah's Witness or Pat Boone, and why can't this creature get a job and move out already?'

  • wow. you are filled with hate, I am glad I don't have to think about you

  • they just dont make singers like these anymore, i am just gonna have to listen to it again

  • One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.... Mary we all love you!!

  • fantastic!!! Thanks for posting this great video.

  • Delightful!

    We will miss you, Mary.

  • Interesting - thanks for posting this video. It's a remarkable performance - has beautiful harmonies and a spontanaety not found in their studio recording of the song.

  • God rest her soul can have you heard the DISHONOR to Peter Paul and Marys name it in that stupid britney spears song called 3 she talks about 3 somes

  • We love you Marry,...... jaa (1997) and lek (1961)...from Bangkok Thailand

  • A good PP&M video like this is the perfect antidote to right wing hate radio and Fox News. Thank goodness for 'em. Rest in peace, Mary.

  • A beautiful peaceful song.... RIP Mary xxx

  • I love PP&M. They are the anti-Glenn Beck.

  • Who cares about fucking politics! I dont care if PPnM themselves thought it was so important, I love them for their musical skill DESPITE their late 19th, 20th century societal beliefs which are on their way out as mankind moves to individualism and liberty.

  • Rest Peacefully Mary Travers. Peter Paul and Mary's music is forever timeless.

  • She was truly wonderful!

  • RIP MARY,i wished i could have known you

  • They could have put on a third microphone for poor Mary!

I remember this song from when I was a kid and it is just as beautiful as I remember. RIP Mary.

  • They never had a third microphone. All three used the two. I'm sure there was a reason for it, and I'm sure you agree when I say the music and singing was beautiful. I'm guessing her voice was so powerful she didn't need a mic just for her. It worked out better this way.

  • Wow! What a song. Never heard it before. Haunting! So sad for Peter and Paul ... and me.

  • What words can relay Mary's influence on the "

    "scene?"

ssdewayne, it sure seems the harder we push, the harder the resist.

Reminds me of a story I read as a kid. The wind was bragging to the sun that it was stronger.

Looking down at a man walking a road, the wind said to the sun watch this, "I'll blow his coat right off." So, the wind blew and the harder he blew, the tighter the man held his coat.

Saying nothing, the sun shined - the man immediately took off his coat.

    Who knows?

    :(

  • bye now golden lady full of love

  • We have always pushed peace but the more we do ; the government upsets it.History repeats its self. Look at how long Cheney, Rumsfield, & Bush Sr. served in the CIA. It goes past JFK. Doesn't anyone study war strategy anymore?ssdewayne

  • Yes, they do. Have you?

  • Marvelous Song !

  • RIP Mary

  • love thier music and the Browns also, then also The Mama's and Papas. One by one they leave the earth to somewhere up high leaving us with beautiful music. Long live the folk artist, check out some of our new folk talent.

  • Its okay ometec, .The entire world is crying over this huge loss. Their music, her soulful voice & compassionate spirit, will stay in our hearts FOREVER.

Rest in peace and Aloha noo Mary.

  • I saw them in Lancaster in May - Mary was so brave. At my advanced age, she inspired me as no other performer ever has.

  • R.I.P. Mary. What a great loss. I remember so many of the wonderful songs done by Peter, Paul and Mary. Mary will be greatly missed.

  • Mary was just wonderfull, the trio is the best in harmonies. I will miss her a lot, the only good thing is, that there are so many visible memories around, plus the music as such.

  • R.I.P Mary...we will miss you beautiful and sweet lady.....I´m soo sad. I´ve never seem them in a concert..never...but this music is so inspired...oh...

  • Somebody help me stop crying

    Someone help me smile

There are too few genuine like she

  • I feel the same. I have been sad all day.

  • RIP Mary

  • I was lucky enough to see them perform many years ago in UK; they had an amazingly unique style which inspired many young people to play "folk music" ; Their vocal harmonies and acoustic guitars weaved veritable magic, the likes of which is not heard much these days. Mary will be sadly missed.

  • Tears for Mary RIP, sweet lady.

  • Just been playing my old 'See What Tomorrow Brings' LP. Tears for Mary - I loved their songs. xx

  • RIP Mary, bit young to have heard you live, but my mother played your records no end in the seventies when I was growing up
