  • Love song <3

  • what a damn sweet voice this lady as got :)

  • i like song

  • Beautyfull voice, I can't image this song to be sung any better. Briljant choice of video.

  • Dio ve salve Mea Domina - Chyi Yu - vox angeli apparitione.

  • @matunbojo

In hoc vox vinces, De quo, dulce est.

  • @matunbojo

In hoc vox vinces, De quo, dulce est.

  • @matunbojo

Sicut aqua dulce, hunc ergo zelum ferventissimo amore exerceant homini.

  • This vdersion is better:

  • Beuatifull voice, can this song be vocalised any better? I can't imagine!

  • I don't understand why the English love to mock their own traditions while showing reverence for those of other peoples. English folk song is often dismissed with jokes about "wack fol de rol" and other clichés, whereas Scottish, Irish & World music is usually treated with respect. I was pleased to find here the beautiful English traditional folk song, Geordie, sung in English by a Chinese singer from Taiwan. Perhaps folk music, like the biblical prophet, hath no honour in its own country.

  • @Micklegard Music is universal. Fact.

  • She has an incredible voice - so pure and otherworldly. If she ever decided to concentrate on Irish songs she would put Enya out of business.

  • her voice is so crystalline that gives me goosebumps

  • Can someone tell me how its this typeof music called? I mean the serene guitars and other instruments, I'd love to hear this kinda music but music only without voices :P although this song is superb I find it hard to describe the music alone... this might be a perfect example for it, its like super serene... any particular music? title?

  • @simplemotions5 any irish folk song... try to listen to the Clannad

  • i m not sure, but the original song should be made by fabrizio de andre, no?

  • @Yinwea no, it s a traditional that De André translated into italian. His version is very good too indeed

  • @merrycenci oh, ok!:) i wasn´t sure. yes, fabrizio de andre rocks!!<3

  • @Yinwea for more precision: this song was written in the XVIth century. And about Fabrizio De André, he also translated Attenti al Gorilla by Brassans, which is JUMBO too. Have a great day

  • @merrycenci i´m listening to that right now. my favorite of fabrizio is la guerra di piero though. :) i think that one he wrote himself. xD

  • It does have a striking resemblance to some old Scandinavian folk songs, but i'm not sure exactly where I've heard it?

  • she could sing irish folk music easily

  • Love it. Love her voice. A gift. The new album The Voice is also good. But her older songs were just amazing.

  • this whole album of chyi C'est La Vie (which includes this song) is amazing. (you can find the title track on youtube, including a live version)

she gives all her songs an unique unearthly touch of tenderness and no other singers can match

  • What a truely beautiful version! What a wolnderous voice, beautiful tone, lovely soaring vibrato! Crystal clear vocals, very much like Joan Baez (my favourite folk singer)!

Are there more folk songs sung by Chyi or only this one?

  • Can't stop listening to this. Her voice is just so haunting! I wish she'd do more folk songs

  • WOW ! It's really amazing that this is sung by a Asian lady. If I would just listen to this song without knowing that a Asian lady is singing it I would really think it is CELTIC music sung by a CELTIC singer ! I listen to alot of Celtic music and this sounds just like Celtic music !

  • yea...this lady is a Taiwanese actually, who believes in Buddha.

And she and the pianist Suzzane Ciani used to have coorperation, like "Turning"...a very good one...Recommend to you=)

  • Originally is an old popular english song then re-written by Joan Baez and covered with her by Fabrizio De Andrè in italian.

  • what are the original song????

  • beautiful old song!

  • 2 hard to find songs by Chyi Yu available on you tube 1) The Music of the Night (2) Let It Be Free by Chyi Yu fm ' Heaven on Earth ' - Rang Ta Zi You

Just search for them and you will find them. ENJOY

  • Chui Yu has the voice of an angel and I love this video shot in China (my guess). Amazing artist! I can't say ernough about her choice of music and her voice. Wow...I'm hooked!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS. Keep them coming as I search for her CDs and ask the music store to keep them in stock.

    Bon chance from Montreal!

  • I've been told that it's an old folk song from where you gordiens live... and the song writer is unknown... We love the song in Denmark..

  • it's just a poesy . it was writen by de andre

  • this a italian song by fabrizio de andre . its mch mor better

  • Why would a italian song talk about Landon bridge and Geordie

  • originally this song was a medieval ballad...fabrizio de andrè sung an italian version...obviously good! ^^

  • not agreed.

  • Her voice is superb!!!

  • don't like it

Joan Baez sings it much better

  • sindzy

OMG i listened to the Joan Baez version after seeing yr comment.. Chyi 's version is so much more touching and poignant portrayal of a woman's pleadings for forgiveness for a person named Goerdie..

Joan Baez is truly a great song writer and I believe she would have been greatly moved by Chyi's singing of the song..

  • @uuduu7 - Geordie isn't the name of the person that she's singing to. A Geordie is a person who is born in Newcastle, or a person who lives in Newcastle.

  • cinrit

sorry but i did not said Geordie is the person that the song is "singing to"..

I think its quite plainly clear that the song is about a first person's recount of meeting a heartbroken woman who is lamenting about an impending execution of her loved one named Geordie..

Chyi has always been able to remake a western classic into the asian context simply with her endearing singing..

Very unlike most current singers who appeals with overt vocal manipulation..

  • cinrit

anyway, thanks for pointing out the definition of Geordie as referring to an ethnicity name..

somehow (i might be wrong) the way the name is used in the song indicates that "Geordie" is an affectionate nickname (and not to refer to the ethnicity of the person..)

  • cinrit

u can google the words, Geordie song, to see what might be the context of the song..

I clicked on the first link of the google results..

  • @uuduu7 - uuduu7, thanks, but I've known (and sang) this song for 35 years, and do understand the storyteller's experience of recounting an encounter. I have to disrespectfully disagree that "Geordie" is a person's name. In the tradition of Child ballads, descriptions often served as names. Happy Holidays to you!

  • @cinrit - sorry ... I meant "respectfully disagree", haha! I shouldn't try to think too early in the morning!

  • haha.. same to you, a good new year ahead ..

  • song and video don't match

  • who's the original writer of this song?

chi è l'autore originale? De André?

    ¿quién es el autor original?

  • No, Joan Baéz.

Fabrizio de André la tradusse in italiano.

  • de andrè ne ha fatto un capolavoro. é la versione più apprezzata

  • He never hurted any

  • hauntingly beautiful!

  • Anyone know if this is in any of her past albums?

  • how can I buy her cd? I've looked for it everywhere with no resold :O( please help, she sings beautifully...

  • Bhe, sono due interpretazioni totalmente diverse, questa obiettivamente è molto doce (vocalmente parlando), sono entrambe molto belle secondo il mio modestissimo parere.

  • If your like this, your should hear the danish version by Kim Larsen, called "Langebro".

Kim Larsen is by the way the most fantastics danish singer!!! All my love to that man!!!

  • he sucks

  • Although I am a Geordie, you may be right that the origins of this song lie in the tale of Lord George Gordon, who led an anti-Catholic riot in London in 1783. He converted to Judaism and eventually died in prison - from typhoid, not through being hanged.

  • An interessting interpretation of an old

    and wise song

  • Originally an old scottish folksong... You can find versions the song in like 10 different languages.

  • but this isn,t an italian song its and old northumbrian and scottish ballad his is just a cover like this1 only she sings it better

  • If I may correct you both, it definetly is not a copy of De Andre's Geordie. The original is from Britain or Scotland, I am not completely sure about that, but this version is the older one.

  • No, the song is not italian, De André only made an italian version of it in the sixties.

  • Just a simple thank you for a superb rendition

  • Had some talent visit me in New Mexico from Newcastle Music School (Newcastle On Tyne) and those Sweet Lassies bested even this Right Fine Lady - 25 years ago like yesterday!

  • I thought she was from thailand???

  • Beautiful! Interesting to note that Denmark's Kim Larsen made an offshoot hit of this song called "Langebro". Check it out.

  • Nu var det ik kun Kim, men Gasolin...Deres første danske sang..

  • this is actually my favorite version of this song.

the others are great, but...theres just something about her voice.

  • Nice song, nice video, just simply nice!

That kind of peaceful countryside life in the video... so simple, so peaceful, so carefree...

  • geordie, yes, but the one sung by Fabrizio De Andrè.

  • This song is a traditional ballad from Newcastle Upon Tyne, England

  • scene nice, voice nice as well....

  • Chyi is also my favorite. This is great song and nicely matches the video. Thank you for sharing!

  • thank u so much for uploading her geordie

have been looking for this song for a long time

and ...sorry if my words were offensive

  • you are welcome, qiyu is my favorite too. your words is not offensive at all, and there were mistakes as you said.

  • Thank you for pointing out the mistakes twice. It seems there are different versions sung by Joan Baez. Hope this time is more correct.

  • 歌词还是有错 重新贴吧

  • A wonderful documentary from the greatest Chinese director alive. Great video!
