The original OHV 302 was used until 1995 in the Ford Mustang GT. 1996 was the first year for the 4.6 L and all of it's whopping 215 brake HP . Compared to the somewhat conservative 265 rear wheel horsepower of the 5.0 H.O. of the prior year.

@nowthisis2stupid I wouldn't say that. The new DOHC 5.0 is really a much better engine stock than the old OHV 5.0s. They make 412HP now on a regular GT when a Boss would have been around 315 or so. the DOHC setup can handle higher RPMs too.The new Boss 5.0 makes 444. I mean the improvement from the old days are just too great to ignore. Doesn't matter though, just gotta keep it Ford.

@thedarklord2006 I would, my first problem is a plastic intake manifold. That was the 4.6's "fly in the ointment" until the day it was retired. And as far as higher RPM's a buddy of mine has a 2006 and his red line is only 500 rpm higher than mine. Yes a DOHC can handle RPM better. But I have a whole list of things that make an OHV engine better than a OHC engine. I like OHC engines don't get me wrong, but I like the old pushrod engines better. #1 reason: easier to work on. :)
