@FiestyCat86 She learned it from a male we had at the time. Stewie. I don't know what possessed him to do it. He was very smart and loved figuring things out, he would open drawers, doors, etc. Was a shock to find him in there the first time.
@TamanduaGirl Oh i'd believe it. My dogs are just as bad. (beagles) and they"re constantly getting into crap their not supposed to. Margarita foundout how to open the freaking fridge, and I found her chowing down on a pack of brats one day. God I wanted to beat her butt so bad, but I was so proud of her smarts I just stood there and laughed. I took the brats away from her and she just turned those big ole beagle eyes on me and I melted. Now theres a lock on my fridge and I've got a great story.
@TamanduaGirl Ewwww they can have it...I hate blue cheese, but then that leads me to ask you another question, aren't they lactose intolerant? Are there any food that she can't eat, and how do you determine that? Does she get sick, like can she vomit? Or does she get diarhia? And not to be gross, but what does anteater poo normally look like?
@FiestyCat86 There is a species of ant in South America that tastes like blue cheese so they are attracted to it. They are lactose sensitive but most of it is broken down in cheeses. I think just strait milk would be a problem.
The only thing Pua is attracted to that's bad is beer and wine. Stewie was an odd ball though and would try anything he ate a lipstick once and some tooth paste.
They can vomit. Pua has a sensitive stomach she can up chuck from too much fiber, or wood dust from ant logs or even too many ants(the exoskeletons bother her). When raiding nests her self she focuses on the eggs(they are soft).
Their poop is dog or cat like. Nice logs but it is smelly and tends to have a greenish tint. They can get diarrhea, which would be the side effect of lactose if they drank a good amount of milk.
She is just so silly. I absolutely love PUA!! I have a big orange tabby cat who will jump in the washer any chance he can get....did I hear a while back you got her a new friend? How is that working out?
I really appreciate and enjoy your videos! I am glad I found them by accident! I think you take excellent care of your babies! Who'd have thought? I noticed in some of the videos, when you were walking Pua, that she stays right on the trail, and not diving in to the brush like a dog would!
Also I wanted to say - I love seeing Pua, and years down the road when I don't have any more rescues to take care of, I would love to see about anteaters or perhaps meet one. Keep up the good pics and vids! I love when she plays with her "boyfriend" lol!
how come you never tell any one information. Is it that you don't think anyone else is responcible enough to have one. I just went on another website to see if i could get a pygmy anteater and when I was on that site everyone was saying that don't even bother asking tamanduagirl on youtube because she dosen't tell anybody anything about where to get them. You never know how someone will take care of the anteater but if they have a licence saying what they have to do i think they will follow it.
A pygmy anteater WILL DIE in captivity. Which just proves you don't have any idea how to care for any anteater. If you did do your research on how to care for one you would also know how to find one. That is one of the first things I found out, still waited years before trying to get one so I could learn all I needed. So if you had read any of the info I do have on the web you would know they almost all come from the wild so are a sort of rescue animal and often sick when you get them.
I always answer questions on every other aspects and do sometimes tell people where to get one after getting to know them. If you cared at all about the animals you'd not want a public post for every person who wants a cool pet or thinks it will cure their ant problem to go get one.
dude he is beautiful but please clean the environment a little bit as he can get a disease because of it. take care of her/him by having a clean place
Well, she eats on the dryer and I have a place mat down for her but the food sticks to her claws so she gets it on the sink and washer too. She eats on and off all night. The mess is a nightly occurrence. So yeah the mess being in a video is a good likely hood even cleaning once a day. Now under the washer lid only once a week or so since I can't clean inside with her sleeping in there. Though I change the blankets out ever couple days or so.
i am just saying for the drier has rust, i am just afraid the rust can damage his hurt or if he has an open wound, the rust can give her and infection.....i don't think rust inside his/her nails are healthy, that is all, sorry don't mean to bug you but i am just worry
Oh the white pain is worn around the edge of the lid but it's still not rusty but black metal showing but I could paint it to keep it from rusting. I do have my USDA license and rust is a violation.
Really there is no rust. It's just build up of gunk under the lid. It's hard to clean but does get cleaned. The rest is bits of food mashed here and there. I've been meaning to upload some care videos, like filing nails ect. Guess I'll make clean up one of them and show a before and after one night of food.
We had ferret rescue and people would always say "Oh my gosh" in picture that showed stained carpet. Guess what, animals make messes!
Anyway - I appreciate what you're saying about food messes. I was overheard saying I mopped my floor on my hands and knees every day and someone called me anal. I was like, when 20 ferrets eat off the floor along with two cats, then we'll see how much mess YOU have to deal with LOL!!! On a daily basis....*sigh*
The door doesn't seal shut. Plenty of air still gets in. I tried leaving it propped open a crack with a sock once and she kept banging on the lid till the sock fell and the lid closed.
Yes she can get out. She normally lifts the lid to get in herself and it closes after her. I had it open from when I took her out for her walk so had to close it for her. She just pushes the lip open and comes out when she is ready.
I sometimes forget some people don't know the history. When I still had Stewie he started doing it on his own and she learned from him.
Ah, cool. I'd forgotten how big she was, and that there were clothes in there (might be harder if the machine was empty, but possibly still possible). That's great she has that little spot. :-)
I once had a very intelligent pet hamster who I let run around the house. He would come to me when I called, so it was OK. But he'd have a little spot behind a drawer in the kitchen. He'd collect scraps of paper and stuff and take them to his spot & build a nest. So sweet. :-)
How exactly did Pua come to start sleeping in the washing machine?

@FiestyCat86 Oh of course you can't tell from this video but she normally opens the lid herself to climb in and it closes behind her.

Yes for the majority of the walk she stays on the trail. She just likes to run and walk out in the woods, with just a bit of exploring off trail.

do you need like a special license to own one. and what country are you in?
explosivecheese 2 years ago
I'm in the USa but laws vary by state, county and city. Any one could have a law against having them or their own special permitting system etc.

It's Tupi(Old Brazilian) for heart.
Tamandua is her species and Tupi for anteater though literally Ant-Trap.

I freaked out for a second, I thought Pua had passed away!! A lot of people make tribute to passed pets and put the titles as "Goodnight [pet's name]"
Cute video though! That's adorable that she sleeps inside of the washing machine! I assume it doesn't work anymore? Lol

No. I title her sleepy photos goodnight all the time so didn't even think about it.
