I'd guess at about a $4-$6,000 landing. But the money is probably not as much a loss to him as all the months and months of labor constructing/weathering/detailing. My stomach lurched when it hit. Try taking a pile of balsa sticks and plywood and scratch-build it to look just like a WWII bird. It's a hobby of passion. Research. Craftsmanship.

the crash was a fail the wing blew off and stuff like that and one year later it was fine i find that funny they must have been pretty good at building models
considering i watched this video the left wing flexed a lil bit looks like there was wind pushing it down as well wing has a weared factor to any plane any size and it looks like when he was landing he last to much speed and yea crashed
Aww man, you can tell they are about to stall when their wings start rocking like that, just needed a little bit more gas and ya would have been fine.
@DiamondPilotDan you don't think he knows that? thats where this guy used to be in the r/c world.what you're talking about gets old after a while and the people who can will take it to the next step.you sound like an idiot.oh well...everyone makes mistakes...

I was sorry to see the B-17 get damaged. I would say he was a bit too steep in his final to touch down. I fly a lot of muti engine airplanes and have many in my fleet (B-17, B-25, P-38, C-47, PBY, A-10, F-14, and a SU27). I've managed to crash a few along my learning curve. Muti engine/motor planes carry a lot of extra weight. Wing loading is probably about 30% higher than single engine planes. Except for my C-47 and PBY the rest of my planes tend to fly like bricks and mistakes are common.
Two scary approaches only difference is the plane was in 1 piece after the second one. Is he a crap pilot or is the plane a lot heavier and balanced differently to the silver one??
sounded like the still had the throttle down when he crashed and he just nose dived which is strange. Also at the start i thought i was the silver one that crashed because it sounded like the engines were failing, i was wrong gladly cos i think the silver one was beautiful
Barring some sort of failure why the hell didn't he go around? It was obvious he was not just carrying too much speed but his nose was pointed down too. Then he nearly does it again with the same landing style. The guy needs a buddy box.
I noticed the 1 year later flight he flew on a day with MUCH less wind. The first part the wind was quite strong and very risky with a plane like that.
Why is there so much hate in the comments every time some one crash a large Rc plane. When i crashed my DC3 on maiden i was crushed but i learned from my misstakes. Im not rich but i use every spare penny for this hobby. Sad to see this crash with such beautiful planes. But the only thing to do is to start over again. Thanks for sharing.

I see so many videos that show the RC pilot coming in WAY too fast for landing. Line up for approach a long way out, kill your speed and glide in. No need to power the thing all the way to the landing strip.
@gennythesmarty in the footage you can clearly see that he had landing gear DOWN. as for the "pull up", it is not that simple. if a big plane does not have enough airspeed, it WILL NOT pull up. also, it seems from the video that unless he was a complete twit (which is unlikely considering he built that beauty) he would know how to land. this was caused by incorrectly programmed transmitter, not stupidity. you don't seem to know anything abour rc, so go sniff a squirrel.

It doesnt look like a incorrect trans set up to me. Looked like plan old pilot error, the plane flew just fine for several min before the bad landing. What was wrong with the trans?
Im glad you got it rebuilt, I felt bad for you. My little brother back in the day spent months building the old fashion ones with the stretch fabric and dope. He wouldnt fly it until I got home from Viet Nam. I was in USAF. We took it out to the old air field, he took off and it got out of range. Did a nose dive straight in. We picked up wheels 50 yards away! Poor kid. He cried so I took him to the hobby shop and used my leave buy back money and bought him another kit. Ill never forget that.
Gorgeous birds. My Dad was a Tech Sarge (crew chief) on one in the 93rd Bombardment Group. Hopeful that someday there will be an Electric ARF available. I'll be first in line to buy one.
What the Chinese EPP foam kit makers don't understand is that there were far more B-24's built than B-17's during the war.. Just that the US press corps didn't want to make the drive North from London up to Manchester.
@railnwings I thought that was suspicious, the way he smoothly flew into the ground... great landing the second time, though! Thanks for showing us that!
