  • I feel bad for her, and her exploitation after the Nancy Kerrigan incident. Whatever happened there??llll,,,, Nancy Kerrigan just sounded like a big suck to me, as a Canadian.... Whatever that's worth....Big drama..

  • @ralphyization And technically many figure skaters benefited from the Tonya Harding scandal. Paul Wylie deferred admission to Harvard because the sport became so lucrative as a direct result of the scandal. As saintly as all the other skaters seemed after Tanya's debacle, they certainly cashed in on it.

  • @victoriaindigo I think it kind of "tainted" them all. There's already a contingent that believes it's not a "true" sport, because it's judged, and not measured in real time, or by a "true" scoreboard. I'm on the fence, while it involves athletic ability, NO doubt, it also has a measure of subjectiveness to it. Remember the Jamie Sale and David Pelletier scandal in Salt Lake? Ever since then, I kind of question in my mind, how "legit", these judges are...

  • @ralphyization What's interesting is that the new scoring system is more objective. Gone is the "artistic impression" mark. I've heard Scott Hamilton and other commentators complain about that.

I'm not a huge Nancy Kerrigan fan. Her wailing "why, why" when she was attacked always seemed OTT to me. And ironically her holier than thou stance afterward gave her more confidence on the ice than all the sports psychologists she'd been seeing to combat her stage fright performance issues.

  • @victoriaindigo To be honest, I thought she "played up" the victim role, a bit. Maybe it's my hockey background, which, I should say, doesn't promote cheaters. Hockey players used to be able to "achieve justice" on the ice. Just saying, Kerrigan didn't seem to be affected by the whole thing. She skated like a figure skater should skate. I feel more sorry for Tonya Harding. her upbringing, to go that far, and DO that??!! I wonder, what if the tables were turned? Who would be where?

  • @ralphyization I've always felt more sorry for Tanya. Nancy's parents totally supported her ice skating career from day one. Tanya had the opposite, and she fell into the wrong crowd.

If the attack had never happened I can imagine Tonya being an amazing commentator, being the 1st American female to do a triple axel in competition.

  • @victoriaindigo What a waste, eh? Against all odds, she DID go far, though. But life seemed to screw her up.

  • @ralphyization So true

  • @victoriaindigo I just kind of wish she would have been the "rags to riches" story, I guess. It would have been pretty cool, if she would have actually gone on to do something with her talent. I wish she hadn't screwed up. I really wished she would have kicked some serious butt!

  • @ralphyization If it weren't for the scandal she probably would have gone into commentating and I think she would have been good at it! I think Tonya will always have fans because there's a feeling that Golooly and Smith were the sole perpetrators and that Harding could have won fair and square because she's so talented. LOL she probably still can do a triple axel!

  • @ralphyization The Salt Lake City pairs event was no scandal at all. It was hyped up by the North American media. Sale/Pelletier executed a wrong lift in the free, and no one mentioned that. They also both fell in the short program and were still second which is an even bigger scandal imo. They should not have even been in contention for gold after the short, so there really was no scandal. It was hyped by media, and unfortunantly the IOC and ISU fell for the pressure. :-/

  • I miss seeing her skate...what an athlete she was...such power

  • My sister was training for olympic figure skating, before she got a brain tumor and that dream was shattered. Tanya need's to call her up so they can support each other in their shattered dreams

  • Cant believe she became a boxer... O.o

  • Sounds like your family tree's got a little of Tonya Harding's DNA in it with your foul-mouthed "trailer trash" comments. Take it easy, you're gonna have a heart attack.

  • Unwedge @ .08

  • It makes me so sad to watch this. What a beautiful young lady she was then. And now she's reduced herself to some over weight, foul mouthed, ignorant hill billy on reality TV shows. Her mother must grieve terribly to have watched her precious little girl spiral down into such a mess. I wonder how much love, devotion and life savings her parents must have poured into this child. What an awful waste.

  • @TheThreekeys Her parents were worse than she is you idiot. Tanya comes from a long line of trailer trash inbreeders! they didn't give her love and devotion they gave her the nasty low life attituse and morals she possesses! Know you facts jerk off!

  • Fist of all Tonya never admitted the attack. Second of all Nancy kerrigan falls every competition befor olympics. She was horrible. Tonya did not need to worry about nancy. Tonya was a much better skater. There are still no american women that do a triple axel or even attempt it. And if they do. They dont even get off of the ice, they all suck.!!

  • @greff08 she did admit it later you bonehead..Tonya certainly doesnt look so good compared with Uni Kim from Korea...trained in Toronto and winner of the Gold in Vancouver..

  • AWESOME LEGS and LADY!

  • It's Tonyas own fault that she never made it, and she has admitted to the attack.

  • i like putonya harding

  • interesting choice of music in the slow portion

  • i pity tonya - she was so afraid nancy had the potential to beat her that she went to the extent of planning that attack.. what confidence she has......

  • @amberfrost28 She probably did not participate in planning the attack. I'd suggest you watch documentaries etc regarding the incident. Her ex was very slimy, and he physically abused Tonya (and threatened her at gunpoint (and did other bad things to her) after the attack and during investigation). I don't know that we should judge her as guilty.

  • hunny get your head out of the sand, I saw all the documentaries and iIm positive she knew, this was a girl who lived through drama, if there wasn't something horrific going on her life she couldn't cope! Its sad but true

  • @Chuckster1028 Let's not mince words, the low life bitch CREATED the drama. She is nothing but trailer park trash. I'm surprised she didn't chain a pit bull to the side of the rink when she skated!

  • she's very powerfull.....but not gracefull !!!!

  • Tonya made some poor choices regarding those surrounding her. Nancy Kerrigan's familiar I read was very working class or lower income, but Nancy took advice on costuming, hair, make-up, choreography. Maybe if Tonya had better advice, she could have gone farther.

  • In a heartbeat....

  • she came to a skating ring in our town and skated with the kids and sighned autographs

  • i pity Tonya. so much heartbreak. so much frustration. yet could have been an olympic medalist.

  • @dilahk927 I don't feel sorry for that white trash piece of shit! Everyone is ultimately responsible for their own actions and ideals. She is an ugly(on the inside)trailor park low life. I don't want to hear about her background and lack of familial support. It's bullshit! Do you know that Peggy Fleming's family was so down and out that Peggy actually lived out of a car! But Peggy was always a class act and a lady. Tanya, that whore pig, should have taken lessons from Miss Fleming!

  • It's not really the music mixes that are the problem, it was the lack of focus and passion. She did this same program at Skate America and the difference is astounding compared to this. Take a look at it and you'll see what I mean.

  • I had not seen this or her 92 short in a long time. The choreography and the musice choices have me so embarrased for Tanya. It was the olympics! Come on, she could have picked better music and better moves.

  • She is known for choosing strange music mixes...a throw-back to the 80's mash up mixes that used to be popular to showcase a skater's range. This program was better before the slow section was changed...it was Bryan Adams before and it fit much better.

  • sorry...before it was all Robin Hood...the Bryan Adams music came after this I believe.

  • I can't believe she would go to the Olympics...or anywhere with music mixes like that!

  • Does anyone know what music her slow section was?

  • "Europa" by Santa Esmeralda

  • This is the weirdest combination of music ever

  • WOW! she does have great athleticism and jumping ability, but her artistry did need some work. Keep in mind, skating is more than just jumping that's why I can understand why the judges placed Kerrigan ahead of Harding.

  • wow, those were LOW marks...

  • What were the judges ordinals that they had given her after her skate and with a number of the final flight already having skated?

  • I think back and find it funny that people really acted as though Tonya Harding was an absoluately horrible skater in comparison to Nancy Kerrigan. Tonyas Techincal abilities were superb. No, Mr. Button, Tonyas 3xel was far more daring and explosive that Kimmie Meissner's. Tonyas ability to place 4th in this competition inspite of circumstances shows that she definately is one of our legends in American Skating.

  • I thought she was better than Kerrigan too. It was a great triple axel attempt, just dropped her right side, she had the height and rotation. I liked her Skate American performance where she had the axel where the lutz was, the music timing was way cooler.

  • I agree with the last part of your comment! The axel right at the beginning in 1991 showed her confidence level at the time. But this was a respectable performance.

  • she was better than kerrigan

  • Actually looking at it again, she opened up slightly too soon on the axel, she would have landed it no problem otherwise.

  • She should have been the bronze winner with Ito and Yamaguchi on the podium, then Kerrigan winning silver later at World's and then Kerrigan winning 1994 Olympics - which she really did so.

  • I agree with all those placements.

  • Does anybody know if she added the triple toe because she doubled the Salchow?

  • I would think so, because she doubled the salchow, but also that she really went after the bronze medal any way she could. Probably also knowing that she can do jumps anytime, she had faith to throw the triple toe in.

  • Which was a wise choice, because she might not have gotten as high as fourth without it.

  • So glad you put this up! It was up at one time before but taken down. Thanks!

  • yes, thanks, i had to see this again! ~Kj
