@iToasterman I'm a graphical software programmer. I complain about everything.
There are some critical problems with developing apps in the Web as it stands now. Until that improves in relationship to what I need, I won't touch it.
@iToasterman So I can run something that runs on Ubuntu? I highly doubt that without a bit of hacking.
The issue is not whether I can install something, but rather the platform it runs on.
As I said before, from a Dev stand point relating to graphical or high performance applications, the WEB browsers will not cut it as it stands now. ChromeOS, is a Web browser as far as functionality.
The web browser is still practically living in the 90's from a dev' point of view.
@zezba9000 Ubuntu is debain based if im correct. So no, not without the debain packing system. btw, chrome os is far from a web browser. They baked in extras. look at web kit in general, you can acess hardware info like a accelometer on safari. gyroscope, the browser is only like a gui, the underlying os is powerful, just need to tap into dev mode and unlock its power ;)
@iToasterman I agree it has potential. But for high performance apps at this time it does not. JavaScript with WebGL does not cut it. The web browser needs to be running a multi-language cross platform CLR like .NET, but something openSource. Something based off LLVM with a standard Garbage collector & multi-language suppot, aka (javaScript, C#, VB ect..).
Apps i'm talking about are things like 3DsMax, Maya, Art programs, Science simulations ect.
But Java & python are not based off a standard multi-language bytecode.
Python is very very slow. Java is good, but does not have things like custom operators or structs, which are highly important for games & other similar apps. Its one of the reasons c++ is still used for them. .NET on the hand does support all these things & gets the best performance.
Linux is my fav OS, but .NET is the best CLR so far & I would like to see Google make something like it or use MONO.
@zezba9000 Google it, you can install ALOT of things on these machines. There just linux at there heart technicaly. >_> Also you can install ubuntu onto these machines thanks to Luigi, a EFI flasher!

really? they can throw away 25 laptops like its nothing and still charge 400 bucks for them? GOOGLE if you want to win make all your laptops start at 100 bucks... it can be done.
WHY DO THEY KEEP DESTROYING LAPTOPS?

This video only goes over one simple thing. Your data can be stored in the cloud...
What about Audio & video editing?
What about 3D editing software?
What about (real) games, WebGL & JavaScript are slow as crap?
The ChromeOS concept & layout is cool, but the technology developers have to use under that platform are pathetic.

@iToasterman Im sure the OS will evolve to support those kinda things in the end.
I hope so.

@zezba9000 it does, just you have to install them...

@iToasterman I think you are incorrect on this. Do you have a link to anything that would say otherwise?

@111480 they don't charge anything for them, if you go sign up for their program you might get one for free to test and own if you live in US.
