  • Probably because the "Super 80" AKA the MD-80 is most likely 25 years old.....

  • Has anybody wondered why the look so calm and relaxed, is it possible that the oxygen contains some sort of tranquilizer?

  • @larousse2002 Because that is the best thing you could do. You can get scared and panic but that isn't going to help neither the plane, crew or pilots and losing cabin pressure isn't a disaster.

  • Is there a doctor on board with some xanax?

  • How is everybody staying calm?! They would have to shoot me with tranquilizers or a bottle of Jim Bean before I calmed down. And I'm pretty nervous on flights to begin with. Thanks for sharing! :P

  • WHAT IS SO SUPER OF THE SUPER 80'S!!!!!!!

  • @ExpertPlane101 there awesome

  • Too bad the Super 80s are gone now

  • That'll happen on those old 80's. The guy one row back was FREAKIN OUT!

  • See, always pay attention to the safety demo even if you're a frequent flyer, you never know when it could save your life.

  • I'll never get on a plane again. I even took medicine, and my anxiety fought threw it. If i can't drive, then no need to travel. Greyhound is filled with criminals, planes are not birds, trains can always go off the track, and boats sink. I rather take my chances with a car.

  • @ColoradoKing26 And you have a higher chance of getting in a car wreck than you do crashing or dieing in a plane.

  • @ColoradoKing26 did you really mean what you whote in your comment? If so, I'm sorry to tell you but you might have some sort of personality disorder.... just MIGHT>

  • @MercedesKawasaki No, I am normal.

  • Comment removed

  • ultimate duck faces

  • Haha I was onboard one of the two southwest flights where a hole popped open on the roof and when the masks dropped down the kids thought they were hats XD

  • I bet they shouted out, "Brace brace!"

  • How come you didn't get one?

  • Lol, AA, I think it's time to replace the Super 80's

  • And just what is so Super about this plane, lol!!!!

  • how did the people react when the thingys dropped?

  • must have been scary

  • OMG WAS THAT SCARY,CAUSE I GOING ON A PLANE 4 THE 1ST TIME AND I AM SCARED :(

  • They ought to mix in a bit of laughing gas just to make a tense situation a bit more tolerable and reduce the potential for panic.

  • During an emergency descent, what does that feel like? Does it feel like a "falling" sensation? How long does it take to descend?

  • How was the passengers reaction when the masks fall down

  • The guy at 0:07(Behind) is like, Haha lulwhat?!

  • yeah yeah switch on your all electrical equipment while there is oxygen running from your mask, very good idea

  • OMG I would be freaking out! Good thing everyone seemed to be calm and the staff I'm sure was very professional too. Wow still scary though.

  • What is the oxygen mask actualy like? They must be pretty old and smelly? Is it true that the oxygen is warm?

  • Comment removed

  • i wonder what happens for the parents with small children or infants in there lap? do u just take turns sharing the mask?

  • @Flyingcorndog15 There is always an extra mask.

  • How does a plane lose pressure

  • @FlyDeltaAirlines1001 Not really sure since they didn't give us an explanation. Most likely it was due to a faulty air conditioner. We were delayed about an hour while we waited for the air conditioner to be repaired. Also, we were not able to fly above 25,000 feet because of the problem. Either that or there was a hole in the fuselage.

  • @Rhizopus81 Your not allowed to fly over 10,000ft because over that is really thin air that cannot be breathed in. If the ED was at a high altitude, pilots do whats called an emergency decent for instances such as Explosive Decompression, engine failure, etc. If there was a hole in the fuselage, I don't think the plane would have been repaired in an hour. Probably grounded for a while.

  • @AirCanada04, the faa says 14,000 ft is as hight as you can safley fly without oxygen but only for 1/2 hour or less. once youv been at 14,000ft for 1/2 hour you need to decend to 12,500 before going back to 14,000ft. I fly a DA-20 at 14,000 ft to clear mountian peaks all the time and feel just fine, but i do live at 4,500 ft too.

    your pilot friend.

  • @Rhizopus81 So does your ears pop like crazy when that happens?

  • @Rhizopus81 im thinking yall lost a pac.. I know if you only have one pac most aircraft have limits on what they can do..and the MD88 leak sooooo much air of them i bet just running one would have a hard time keeping the plane pressurized.. just a thought tho

  • @FlyDeltaAirlines1001 It happens when theres a hole somewhere on the aircraft causing the aircraft to lose oxygen and pressure. Or when the pilot switch the cabin pressurization swtich from auto to manual. The manual option means the engine will not produce oxygen therefore theres no oxygen.

A Boeing 737-300 crashed in Athens due to lack of oxygen

  • @FlyDeltaAirlines1001: It's an MD-80

  • @SchindlerHaughton i hate the damn MD-80's so happy co no longer has them lol

  • @josh198869: here in Europe, we beg to see some more MD80s. The airports here are spoiled with just 737s and A320s. Lately attended with ERJ190s. Boring........

  • @FrisoLustig i guess man but they are so old and dated its not even funny lol

  • @josh198869 The latest MD80 are build in 2002, the majority of the MDs are form the 90s, I hate 737-300/-400 and -500s. Sooooo boring.

  • @FlyDeltaAirlines1001 A decompression is when there is a hole on the jet, a pilot error (setting pressurization mode to manual) or other hundreds of ways :)

  • @FlyDeltaAirlines1001 Somebody farted

  • @FlyDeltaAirlines1001 Planes can lose pressure for a number of different reasons. Sometimes a door doesn't seal correctly or comes open during flight. Another reason has to do with the packs and bleed air, which is a complex system that pressurizes the cabin and provides air-conditioning.

  • what happen ???

  • loss of cabin pressure is nothin to be worried about. The oxygen supply in ur mask lasts about 35-40 mins but you would have made an emergency landing by then and if you dont you are given another mask thats filled with oxygen.

  • @DidlydodaBinweevils

it lasts for 12 minutes on a b737ng

  • I love the Super 80... one of my favorites.... its a good thing theyre so reliable in these situations :D

  • 0:20 the lady is just listening to music like nothin happend thats the attitude forget the cabin pressure lose just play your music

  • @cool2040coasters Emergency Landing Playlist

  • @Rhizopus81 lolol

  • @Rhizopus81 cause every little things gonna be alright....

  • @cool2040coasters ahahah exactly, O2 effects are awesome on your danger perception

  • @cool2040coasters lol why would u freak out? loss of cobin pressure doesn't equal death, this shit happens all the time. this woman is probably a frequent flyer

  • @cool2040coasters lmfao or you could just not put on the mask and pass out so you dont have to be awake for it!! haha

  • @cool2040coasters Because nothing really happened...what are you supposed to do, panic? It's not a big deal...the plane still flies like a normal plane and it'll land like a normal plane so you should act like a normal passenger.

  • @cool2040coasters I know wtf just zone out the crisis listen to ipod.

  • I am sorry but honestly they shouldnt use the super 80s anymore they are already to old in my opinion.

  • @TheStereoman2 , with all due respect to your comment, The MD80 is avery reliable airplane, I work as a mechanic on these planes and the durability of these aircraft is astonishing. Very robust and reliable. There has not been any MD80 involve in a crash related with structure problems. decompressions happens now and then in any aircraft, even newer ones like the 777 and airbus. reason for decompression range from a simple Air conditioning system problem to fuselage ruptures,

  • @TheStereoman2 american airlines replacing them with 737's right now it's just yaking awhile

  • that guy with the glasses lol he is like O_O

  • this is certainly the last things passengers did in plane crashes involving decompression years back ago

  • did a pre recorded announcment sound when the masks deployed?

  • @bballmanager No pre-recorded message, but the cabin crew came on a told everyone to grab a mask

  • Ooh I am glad it was on a crappy exTWA bird.

  • kamrankhurshid your a fucking moron stop talking

  • O2 mask is necessry in rapid decompression because if its happen on the hight of 40000ft then after 10 sec you will get hypoxia which is lak of oxygen and you will not able to control your movement and gradually you will incapacitate and die and in rapid decent you badly need oxygen this is ur only hope at that time

  • @kamrankhurshid

at 40000feet the TUC is 18sec

  • you know some thing if rapid decompression happen at the hight of 36000ft u only have 10 sec to get hypoxia and after hypoxia u ll not able to control ur movment so how cum u ll be able to takel 400 peoples if u got hypoxia and specially for poilet landing is depand upon them

  • Wow, that is an amazing video! Is it easy to breathe through the masks? They all looked like they were working fine.

  • yeah but duration is only for 12 mininuts and for this poilet have to do rapid decent and this decent make u ....ed up

  • You realize how heavy that the plane would be, right? It would be unable to fly, and the engines required to actually lift the plane off of the ground would be so enormous that it'd be too expensive and uneconomical.

  • @YoMomSaddam: I agree. One thing I would like to add is that each airplane has its maximum landing weight. If the airplane is heavier than that, fuel has to be dumped first before an airplane can land. Otherwise, an airplane can disintegrate upon landing and may result in severe injuries or even death on anyone onboard.

  • i think dumping of fuel is not necessry bcoz weight calculation of the air plane is predefine as per all the circumtenses usually in this casses captain suddenly maintain a save level which is 10000 ft and after that they can glide and lend any where on airport they have to do the rapid decent in this situation and they only have 12 min which is the duration of oxygen mask for pessengers and if weight metter then they coulnd stop air plane to fall down and crash bcoz its faster then landing

  • @kamrankhurshid I think you are right on that. Loss of cabin pressure does not always mean it requires dumping of fuels. The plane can fly and burn fuel before it lands as long as it maintains 10000ft or below. There must have been some other issues that led the captain to dump fuel and land the plane sooner.

  • 100% o2 calms people down, otherwise people will panick and fuck up even more.

  • Honestly, I think that people like you need to know what you're talking about before posting something.

If there was no oxygen in the plane, how would you be able to land the plane alive in the first place?

  • What did it feel like for the cabin to loose pressure?

  • below 10.000 no oxygen masks need !

  • @E8NOS Wrong, below 7k feet no oxygen

    masks needed.

  • some freaking old plane!

  • The American MD80's and 757's are about the same age. In eithe case, neither should be considered an old aircraft.

  • This was actually probably one of American's newest MD-80's. You can tell by the interior that this bird once belonged to TWA. In that case, the plane could be as young as 1999/2000.

  • COOL. wanna experience that on my next flight. lol. thats what u get if u fly American Airlines! Nah Jk jk jk, but srsly American Airlines is not a good airline.

  • @jezrelnyc2000

AA is a good airline, the plane landed safety

  • wow interesting. everybody on the plane seemed to be pretty calm with the exception of the guy behind u at 0:07 haha. hes scared shitless.

  • haha yes he's probably shting his pants what causes extra decompression from his ass

  • lolololo

  • Emphasis on the word "almost". The only retarded one here is the one who thinks that the flight crew should be soothing scared passengers crying for their mommy's instead of bringing everyone home safely.

  • This is clearly not an explosive decompression, it's probably not even due to failure of the aircraft fuselage. My guess is the pressurization system malfunctioned causing the drop in cabin pressure. And yes the flight deck crew is dealing with three things; get on O2, work with ATC to drop below 10K, and contact the cabin crew. Unfortunately talking to scared passengers is not on their to do list, that's the responsibility of the flight attendants. We're not just there to serve you a coke! =)

  • Hello!Wow I must say! They people see scary either but they was level either.=)

So they do a emergency landning too.

How you feel? Was you scary too or feel you level?

Give you 5 star for this film!=)

    Greeting TheCARRE74=)

  • Is that the md 80??

  • The anouncement was already made as soon as the masks drop. Also the captain is very busy flying the plane to their unscheduled emerg landing. You won't hear a lot of talking from the flight deck.

  • Final Destination

  • I fly on that plane every time from O'Hare International Airport to New York's LaGuardia roundtrip no cabin pressure has change all the times I have flown on the American Airlines Super 80

  • Its a very rare experience, of course not

  • omg i would have been soo scared im going to vegas tommorrow i hope its ok

  • I am glad I didn't go with you guys! Ted would have been a wimp.

  • I probably should not have said wimp. Ted didn't like that.

  • I was on this flight. Everyone looks a lot calmer in this video than I remember. Not that anyone was panicking, but I know I wasn't ready to give two thumbs up until after they told us it was safe to take the masks off!

  • Thanks for finding my video and commenting. What a crazy experience! It probably wouldn't have been as bad if the pilot would have come on to tell us what was happening, but nobody told us anything. I think the flight attendents were more freaked out than the passengers.

  • Yea uh the captain and co captian are probably busy trying to coordinate an emergency landing with the ATC. I doubt he had much time to say anything to you guys. Be glad you're alive.

  • @Rhizopus81 I think the pilots didn't say anything because they have to wear the oxygen masks too if the cabin decompresses, plus, they were probably very busy on the radio declaring an emergency and such.

  • @Ferrariman601

in case of emrgency, FLY, NAVIGATE then COMMUNICATE, in that order ;-)

  • @Rhizopus81 I am a flight attendant, and last week performed a diversion and emergency landing following a medical emergency. My Captain never made an announcement to the passengers because, honestly, they were much too busy arranging a landing and coordinating medical and maintenance assistance (for a post-overweight-landing check). Flying the plane comes first. Everything else comes later.

  • @deovalente Thanks for your comment and I completely agree with you. Having never experienced something like this I didn't know what to expect. Truth be told, I think the airline handled this situation as well as they could have. Even though it was late, they were able to quickly produce an aircraft to continue us to Chicago from Nebraska. The cabin crew also did a good job of managing the situation. Thanks again deovalente and cheers to you for the work you do.

  • @Rhizopus81 I'm glad American handled the situation well. An emergency such as that which warrants a diversion can make it extremely difficult to coordinate ways to accomodate the passengers, and I am both pleased and impressed that American did such a fantastic job. I'll remember your face from this video and look for you on any of my future flights. Drinks on me. :)

  • @Rhizopus81

the pilots had a lot to do , for your security, acting was better than talking to you

    ( sorry for my english)
