It is really incredible how small changes can make a scene come alive. In the original this scene was pretty good, not great. Now, on the other hand, it is phenomenal. It really is amazing to see how small changes can make such a big difference.
@Rayle75 I will admit I like some of the changes are better just the whole thing put together is a mess....like the scene in Mos Eisley or Jabba the Hutt in episode 4 or the ending with showing all the planets (and jar jar) and having Darth Vader appear young (must say I did like the song they replaced at the end of the movie) but the changes in general are just ugly and detract from the full movie
@LordCHull Um, I think the Young Anakin clip may have pissed off some people and their nostalgic views but it doesnt mess up the story, jedi die when they are killed or when they turn to sith, Anakin "died" on episode 3 so they fixed up that login with the edit

This is Ani we're talkin about, HE died on episode 3 and became "reborn" into vader, which means his JEDI spirit is portrayed in the last form he took which was the young adult anakin from episode 3.
I want a group of die hard star wars fans to do a remake of the original trylogy, without Lucasarts greedy idiots interfering, geniouses when left alone and not pushed create the masterpieces (Don't apply to episode one, but if you cut out jar jar binks it gets 10% better)
I love how you added more Star Destroyers in the background. Some people might complain that it's something George Lucas would do, but here it makes sense in context because the Empire is effectively blockading Hoth, so it would be logical that there are dozens of ships surrounding the planet.
funny never noticed the top X-wing being hit but also noticed the bottom one disappears from shot in front of the cruiser but does not reappear it should have been visible at the end of the shot even a little...
The Empire Strikes Back has always been one of my favorite films of all time. These vids just take it to a whole new level. This is the best rendering of the film so far in fact I think this version should be the Special Edition, not the '97 ones.
This is a welcome and AWESOME addition.....Adrians attention to detail is just AMAZING. He really is a TRUE fan as all of his painstaking edits are crafted from what most of us think should have happened as opposed to what effects would look nice and pretty. I can't wait for Empire - god only knows what he has in store for Jedi.....(hopefully a decimation of the Ewoks.....GRRRRRRRRRRRR)
@Darkstar2398 I presume then that they'd be using atmospheric protection shields (or whatever you want to call them) which enable supersonic speeds without the hull being exposed to any friction whatsoever. The ARC-170 was equipped with such shields, so I presume that these more modern ships would come with that equipped as standard.

Shouldn't it stay behind to protect more transports as they leave? I thought I remember a rebel pilot saying something like "Two x-wings up against a Star Destroyer?!?" which suggests that the rebels were short on pilots/xwings. Maybe I'm interpreting it wrong. But either way, it seems a weird for that one xwing to leave when there's still ships to protect
No. Its an escort mission. The X-Wings stick with the transport and draw fire away when the transport is threatened. (If you look again, you'll see the X-Wing that was destroyed, was ahead of the transport and drew attention of the Star Destroyer.) ... When threat is cleared, the X-Wing remains with the transport until they reach their destination. Each transport is assigned a pair of fighters with the Ion Cannon providing fire support.

How can the star destroyer crew be so noob to not have their shields up, during a planetary assault? That's like an open invite to get ion cannoned in the face. Totally failed vader for the last time.

The shileds were already up on the SD, nor were the commanders on board the SD were not able to detect the Ion canon before it was too late. Further to this even if they detected it they couldn't have destroyed it due to the shield.

It's been confirmed in several canon sources from the star wars universe. shields up, ion cannon couldn't have blasted trough so easily. No, you have it wrong. Leia says "ion cannon" during her briefing to the rebel fighters a couple of scenes earlier. If you stop being such a know it all and paid attention, you might learn something.
This makes more sense with the Star Destroyer engaging the targets shortly before being disabled, and the Rebel Transport/one escort escaping into hyper space. Excellent work!
This is how the revisions of the Special Edition re-releases should have been done.
Not all that defiling garbage that they added, changing the fundamental aspects of the movies and adding CGI for the sake of cluttering the screen with "purdy" shit.
That's how it should have been. The Star Destroyer upon seeing the transport and X-Wings, aggressively opens fire to destroy them, managing to take an X-Wing down, before being crippled by the ion cannon.
@CommanderLightning I agree entirely, except I find it interesting how those turrets completely missed that large, lumbering transport, yet managed to snipe a smaller, faster X-Wing.

I don't know what they were trying to accomplish with the special edition, all they did was add cgi where it didn't belong every five minutes. Why couldn't they do stuff like this!
Am i the only one that finds it odd that the ion shots completly bypass the ISD's shields? one would think that part of the imperial procedure before going into battle is raising the shields, after launching TIE squads, ect. and in most if not all SW space flight games, you have to take out the shields before you can disable any kind of vessel.
Yeah, but if you've actually looked up how big those ion cannons are, they just punch right through shields. In fact, that same ION Cannon is used later on in a book thats canon, and also took out a ISD

The ion discharge looks more realistic to me in the blue because the coronal ion discharges I have created are much closer to that color, as opposed to the red.
this is awesome, my only gripe is that the 3 fighter escort goes against Leia saying that each transport will be escorted by only 2 fighters. but otherwise a fantastic improvement
i was 8 or 9 years old when i first saw this episode but one week ago when i saw it i was 20 and i'm starting to crying when the ion controll was activated.......
I going out of a limb here, but in one episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, a Republic Ship made the jump into lightspeed while still in the planet's atmosphere without any of the other vessels around them being affected by the interdiction. (whatever that is)
So in the SW universe, if a ship can make a jump to lightspeed while still on planet, then surely it's acceptable for a ship to make the jump into hyperspace near a planet.
If we're thinking of the same episode it was not intended for the Republic ship to jump in atmosphere. Presumably it's a very bad thing to do, for whatever reason. Throws the ship off course or whatnot.
My point that I was making to Willhelm007 is that it can be done in the Star Wars universe. Not that should be done or that it was intended to be done, but that it can be done.

I love the changes! the new background on hoth behind the ion cannon, the more frantic firing of weapons around the rebel transport, the x wing getting zapped, the arcs of energy sparking across the disabled star destroyer, and lastly the jump into hyperspace of the rebel transport and the x wing! adywan did a great job! I can't wait to see it finished!
Well the deleted scene was authorised by George Lucas and appears on the AOTC DVD so is more canon than the EU which is why if it doesn't appear on screen then it isn't canon in my edits.

@CommanderLightning I agree entirely, except I find it interesting how those turrets completely missed that large, lumbering transport, yet managed to snipe a smaller, faster X-Wing.

@CommanderLightning The Star Destroyer wasn't trying to destroy the rebel ships just capture them, hence Captain Lennox saying, "Good, our first catch of the day."

I don't know what they were trying to accomplish with the special edition, all they did was add cgi where it didn't belong every five minutes. Why couldn't they do stuff like this!

Am i the only one that finds it odd that the ion shots completly bypass the ISD's shields? one would think that part of the imperial procedure before going into battle is raising the shields, after launching TIE squads, ect. and in most if not all SW space flight games, you have to take out the shields before you can disable any kind of vessel.

Yeah, but if you've actually looked up how big those ion cannons are, they just punch right through shields. In fact, that same ION Cannon is used later on in a book thats canon, and also took out a ISD

The ion discharge looks more realistic to me in the blue because the coronal ion discharges I have created are much closer to that color, as opposed to the red.

this is awesome, my only gripe is that the 3 fighter escort goes against Leia saying that each transport will be escorted by only 2 fighters. but otherwise a fantastic improvement

I going out of a limb here, but in one episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, a Republic Ship made the jump into lightspeed while still in the planet's atmosphere without any of the other vessels around them being affected by the interdiction. (whatever that is)
So in the SW universe, if a ship can make a jump to lightspeed while still on planet, then surely it's acceptable for a ship to make the jump into hyperspace near a planet.

If we're thinking of the same episode it was not intended for the Republic ship to jump in atmosphere. Presumably it's a very bad thing to do, for whatever reason. Throws the ship off course or whatnot.

I love the changes! the new background on hoth behind the ion cannon, the more frantic firing of weapons around the rebel transport, the x wing getting zapped, the arcs of energy sparking across the disabled star destroyer, and lastly the jump into hyperspace of the rebel transport and the x wing! adywan did a great job! I can't wait to see it finished!

Well the deleted scene was authorised by George Lucas and appears on the AOTC DVD so is more canon than the EU which is why if it doesn't appear on screen then it isn't canon in my edits.
