I prefer straight lines, but FAMU has killed crowds with what they do and so has Big Blue TSU along with many others. Not sure about those bigger fish frying that dude commented on a ways back, because you guys look nothing like the programs mention and are not as precise. FAM locks in formation nicely, but care nothing for organized transitions and most HBCU's beat that straight line concept into you. The FAMU concept for drilling doesn't stress the maintaining of clearly defined lines.
The FAMU can't drill thing is in reference to the execution of their shows. FAMU has moments where there isn't a straight line to be found on the field. Even in corp style bands there is more integrity in the transitions. FAMU will look like a bunch of people randomly moving about and in up making a SUV with FAMU in it. I don't like it, but it is what they do. Most HBCU's pride themselves on having straight lines at all times and FAMU & Cookmen at moments don't. Style difference guys and gals.
TSU is really a underestimated band they are really good. I still have to go with FAMU they are still the #1 band to beat. They bring excitement to halftime just about every performance....but TSU is definately a top band. Props to both fam and tsu....
TSU stood their ground in this performance. They just had very slight intonation problems to me. But I didn't expect this much. They entertained me more than Fam.
i agree with hhorns when he says that we don't play "loud" out famu. the band has class and would sound way too abrasive if they played @ thier fullest volume. i'm a music ed. major and i'm sure when i say that volume ISN"T everything.
Bethune does not do precision drills....and the same person that wrote our precision drills in the 70's Dr. White is band director today so stop the lies
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
FAM doesn't do drills. They don't have anyone on staff that can write precision drills to the tune of TSU, Southern, Norfolk State, or Bethune. It takes hard work and it is very time consuming. FAM just rips runs to whatever formation they want to form. If FAM wants to learn how to strategically move a big band with precision, they should take a page book from the University of Tennessee or The Texas Long Horns. They know how to move a big band. FAM, you need to stop smelling yourself.
Ok, I've read the malarky you've been posting long enough. 1st question, what is your definition of Drill? If you mean the simplest techniques of drill taught in HS such as the simplistic step 2, pinwheel, and gate turns that the programs you mentioned do, then you MUST be kidding. It's easy to be precise if you never leave the beginner level. Look at the textbook "DRILL" techniques Fam displays in THIS this show.
4 starters, Interval changes from 0,2,4,6 & convert to 1,3,5,7. TSU NEVER leaves a 2,4,6,8 interval....elementary. Let's talk FTL drill that we call Rattlering, The flank moves, company front, Entire THEME and Pageantry. U Obviously don't understand that these R textbook DRILL techniques that other bands don't do & they are intricate. SO N actuality, we use MORE Drill techniques than U. It takes Drill methods to MAKE pictures, (Floating is the term). When your band can do more than 8 to 5, talk.
As a matter of fact when your Drum Major can put his Hat on STRAIGHT, then talk about precision. SMH. Now, TSU is a good program, but don't fool yourself into thinking your equal. There can only be one. And the Accolades continue to go to Famu, not for our past, It's for what we CONTINUE to do. We got a standing O...and TSU? Step up your difficulty level and THEN come c us to see what ELSE you need to improve on. The Tradition continues....
Now with All that said and done, TSU, did a great job. Famu has proven time and again that size is not the factor in the sound (The band is split into the Orange band and green and and still has that Big Band sound) also the PEP band has that Famu sound. It's the Program, the leadership, etc that makes Famu what it has become today. Stop the Hate, Today, ATL got a show from 2 great programs. Kill that craziness you talking about.
I know we African Americans have our own competive culture when it comes to entertainment. You hardly ever hear country singers argue about who's queen of country music Tami Wynette or Loretta Lynn. But boy we alway arguing about Aretha and Patti. Same thing with HBCU bands. We just got to pull down one to uplift the other....I'm sure its a Willie Lynch holdover...that crab in a barrel syndrome.
I love both bands But I think TSU this year has shown enormous improvement in all areas the marching and manuevers look alot tighter this year much love Aristocrats!!!!
Thanks for the history lesson, bruh... Yes, each HBCU has its list of accomplishments, yet only ONE holds the Sudler! FAMU!! Now, does FAMU disrespect other HBCU bands?? No, its the simple fact that Dr. Foster's original intent was to have the 100 perform at the level of Div-A bands, a feat which he and Dr. White have pretty much achieved today. So its no disrespect, its just that the 100 has bigger fish to fry. Namely, Ohio, Michigan, Notre Dame, for starters!! Hubba dat!!
Good show TSU!! Comparatively, FAMU is clearly on another level. The whole "FAM can't drill" thing is so ridiculous. There are various TYPES of drill styles.. The "step-two" drill is what most HBCU's have been using for decades, whereas, FAMU is moving and HAS moved away from them. Animation, calligraphic, step-one, are just a few that the 100 uses. Just because they choose to perform different drills, don't assume they CAN'T do a simple step-two. Now, HUBBA DAT!!
TSU was the first College Marching Band to perform on Nationwide TV. The first HCBU to perform in a Presidential Inaugural Parade, 1962. FAMU you produce a wonderful mass choir sound that I admire, but you miss the point. You and your wonderful Public Relations machine have spent the last three decades showcasing yourselves at the expense of all other HBCUs instead of promoting the entire field of great HBCU bands. You are good, but don't fool yourselves, so are others. Stop dreaming!
Could the marching 500 have produced the same quality sound with The Aristocrats instrumentation. No! The marching 500 can't put together a constructive field drill. How in the hell can they march 10 yards forward and do some pinwheels and call that a drill. Name another band, in the same weight class, in the country that can produce the same quality of shows that The Aristocrats produce. None! We work hard to produce outstanding results.
dont hate on the "100" cause we're big... thats not our issue...
secondly, i've always liked the AOB... one of my favorite, respected bands... and while "today's" show was enteraining, the "100" was more entertaining... had yall performed this show AFTER the "100," it would really be alot worst than what it is... but thats neither here nor there...
in general, the AOB usually puts on "quality" shows... aint no denying that... but those shows are usually "boring"
first off TSU'S SHOW WAS AMAZING. THEY DID EXCELLENT!!!IM SO PROUD OF THEM...FROM THE BEGGINNING OF THE SEASON TO KNOW THEY HAVE IMPROVED SO MUCH. SECOND FAMU ALSO DID GREAT...YOU REALLY CANT COMPARE THEM BECAUSE FAMU IS TWICE TSU'S SIZE...ITS REALLY NOT THAT SERIOUS FOR YAL TO BE GETTIN ALL IGNORANT ABOUT WHO DID BETTER BOTH DID GREAT...AND WHOEVER SAID TSU SUCKED, YALL ARE JUST HATIN REAL TALK CAUSE YAL KNO GOOD AND WELL THEY DID A GREAT JOB!!!
Yes TSU did sound good. Most times they always do. You can't compare the two? Says who? I've been seeing these two go at it for years and peeps both bands say they are better than the other (comparing the two). If the two can't be compared then why do peeps from TSU's band do it. Even go as far as photo shopping Kanya West into pics of the "100" mocking the Kanye/Taylor Swift incident. But I guess that's not ignorant though huh? it's called SMACK TALK. Nothing personal.
Honestly the person who made dat pic attends FAMU, they attended TSU first....but they simply dnt like da "100". But im at Aristocrat and i have no problem wit da "100"...i got a lot of close friends dat march there....but we dnt take band stuff dat serious...we just do wat we gotta do and be on our way.....lol
Ok now guys I understand in comparison to our show theres was a lower quality but that doesn't mean you have to go around calling them shit. They try and for there size their sound level is pretty good (mostly in the stands. I was right in front of em during the field show and wasn't really blown away.) Though you guys should check up on he people with their horns down during the show. Makes you look bad.
That is a lie. TSU did a great job. I'm not a fan of the annoucer but let me tell you this...TSU sounded exceptional given the amount of people in the band. I thought FAMU would drown them out but they didn't. FAMU did a good job but with that amount of people they should produce a stronger sound that they do.
There is a big sound difference. It's just not that "slap you in the face sound." Try sitting int the very top of the dome and listen to famu from the back. Then do the same thing for TSU. I'm willing to bet you change your comments.
2 things that were anoying to me 1 when i was sitting on the side lines before we went on..the only time the crowd cheered is when their announcer said "make some noise" that is so lame quit telling ppl to cheer if they like the show they will cheer on teir own 2 it was so...lame that after the game was over they kept playing even after the lights went out on them and they had no crowd around...take a hint ... im like come on its over...you lost..please go home
