@oindrilacful well, of course we are some who'd rather they came out to each other finally, in the end of the movie, but you see, in fact they do. only, in shane's rather limited universe, intellectually speaking, his declaration of love to jonathan is clearly inherent his stating jonathan as his best friend. look to the clips and the angles: why, for instance, is carrie suddenly staring onto an empty beach? wouldn't you say that has an evident symbolic meaning? they are not for her ...

@werehuntress i thought that too, but remember when jonathon is having his childhood flashbacks and he says " but i was not brave, not brave enough to stand by you" thats wat killed me! thats why even though at the begining of the movie they're seated together they look so unhappy, and i thought maybe jonathan ended up leaving cause he couldnt stand not being with shane.

well,i really liked the movie but i hated the fact that they couldn't stay together..this kind of relationship isn't going to work..jonathan is in love with shane who is in love with carrie and only sees him as friend..as much as they want to stick together it would be too cruel for jonathan,wouldn't it be??so,i was a little bit disappointed in the end but..thats life,nothing's perfect..

the only fault i could find with this film is Carrie (the girl) who didn't have as much active role throughout. it's sporadic. perhaps, this was intentional to illustrate the symbol of comets surprising the Earth(Johnathan) and the Sun (Shane).

this film is probably one of my top favorites. it gets sensual and erotic after the childhood stage. but well balanced with innocence and lust, duty to maintain friendship along with the inner desire to fuck. also the beautiful scenery changes along with the character's development into adult hood. during childhood stage, everything is clean and innocent reflected by the farms, bicycles, and the ocean. into adulthood, rainy urban settings,dark nights, and traffic scenes are displayed.

This movie is so beautiful, the message is so clear.... I even use this movie as a inspiration for me. My escape to my problems. If i watch this movie I fill relieved in every problems... Guys to all people straight or gay I recommend this movie to you.... It will awaken your sensitivity part of your heart. A very true story that will help us understand what really friendship are.... I am so in love with this movie I hope to those people have a chance to watch it will also do the same to them
