Great video! I love seeing grand, old Evening Attire before he was the almost-pure white he is now. Gander was a great horse, too. Thanks for the memories!
Great video of Gander. After the race, the papers reported that Gander galloped out to the 1/8 pole then turned himself in to the outrider. He tried to go to the winners circle because he thought he won!
lol gander may be a worry its great to see evening attire win even if hes young here hopefully he can do good in the suburban tomorrow gander was a great ny bred he made to the breederscup and before he was purchased privatly he won 2 out of the 3 otb triple leg . i think
I agree, that "Gander may be a worry" comment by Durkin had an understated hilarity about it. Lol. A great, unintended comedic moment.
It is awesome to see Evening Attire win here and especially in the Stymie at 9! It would be terrific to see him win tomorrow. Gander was great fun to watch too, I love 'em both.
There's another video somewhere that shows a similar thing, riderless horse winning a race. The other is especially neat because you see the riderless horse actually switch leads at the final turn (just as a jockey would make him do). Most of the time, when they go riderless...they wander off and end up munching grass somewhere. :D
I tried to find it but couldn't. It is part of a montage of racing clips from Japanese racing. One a horse that lags 10-15 lengths behind the pack comes back to win, there's a riderless horse winning, um, one is a horse race in fog so thick you can't see anything...except when a horse comes out of the fog to cross the finish.
Gander is awesome! Even with no jockey he knows to pace himself & wait for the turn to make his move. He may not count as finishing this race, but he really shows what he's made of here. Here's wishing him a long & happy retirement (maybe in another year he & Evening Attire can hang out together).
I agree. It is really neat though how Gander ran a great race without guidance. However, he did have the luxury of no jockey weight on his back. Take care.
CF I was wondering if you had any video of the most notorious "loser" in racing. 12 maiden zippies chippy who was 0-century. Amazing how bad he was, he actually lost a race to a human being. A minor league baseball player. "Man vs. Beast I". Any videos you can dig up from him are appreciated.
That was hilarious, Gander wins! Mike Smith thankfully looked to be alright after that nasty fall. NINE year old Evening Attire actually just won Saturday's 2007 Stymie Handicap at Aqueduct! Pretty incredible stuff for the old boy. Great to see.
I currently Work at Runnymead farm in north Hampton where Gander lives, hes an amazing horse! This video is Amazing!

this is quite funny, but remember that gander isnt carrying an 110 pound jockey : )
funnycideoflife 4 years ago
True, but he stumbled at the start and didn't have the benefit of human guidance. =) Which is what makes it so cool that he "won."

hey, maybe jockeys actually hamper a horses urge to finish first in the pack?

Hey, thanks for the heads up about the other video. Can you recall which race it was?
Great comment about "riderless horses wandering off and munching grass somewhere." It's very true and very funny :)
Have a great day.

How can a horse win with no jockey? It's impossible

Obviously it's not impossible if he did it.

Sure is. I wonder who the oldest thoroughbred race winner is? That would be interesting to look up. Take care.

I've been searching for race footage of The Zipster, but haven't found any just yet. I'll keep looking though. Take care.
