  • What a great song!!!!!

  • THIS WAS FROM DETRIOT 1968 :) THE SAME BIRTH PLACE OF THE MC5 AND THE IGGY STONES ROCK N ROLL PUNK FACTORY

  • Man that song was made for the summer of 68 airwaves on The Big 8 CKLW and it's only rival was Sunshine of your Love by Cream.

  • wow, used to love the amboy's, and forgot about those costumes, like Paul Revere and the Raiders crap. Great to see this again, this is what I grew up with, and of course, Nugent

  • DONT YOU WISH ALL MUSIC WAS THIS GOOD

  • Nugentski was much better here as a poo pants draft dodger.

  • The dancers are thinking, "How the hell do we dance to THIS?"

  • @gmartinz01 YOU LISTEN

  • How could anyone dislike this?

  • Ted was already nuts, but a played a mean axe even as a kid.

  • They are in darn good lip sync synchronization. I like the driving musicality.

Take a look at them now...oh please, yikes.

Saw a recent interview with Grace Slick. What a crusty old battle-axe. At least she was honest about the commercial aspects of the "movement".

Baby Boomers are not the cultural force (or economic) they used to be. What exactly is filling that vacuum escapes me? Some sort of globalized tower of babel; maybe by design?

Journey to the center of the mind looks good to me.

  • The Captain and Tennille made Ted Nugent look like an amateur "back in the day."

  • The Ramones!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well, I love NUG and I know he played this with this group. But this video is obviously a staged thing, he wasn't actually playing. Why?? Electric guitars need cords to go to amplifiers. Ted's guitar has no cord in this video.

  • 1:09 Yes, you!

  • Uncle Ted, what fun we`ve had

  • Nice, you can hear the blues influence in Ted's playing!

  • detroit rock!!!......enough said.

  • that is some ridiculous dancing

  • Kinda ironic bearing in mind that Nugent is pretty anti-drugs

  • the only good politician is a dead one.

  • THAT IS TED NUGENT ON GUITAR, FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW IT.

    THIS WAS HIS FIRST BAND.

  • @gregboyds what year is this?

  • @cip421 This song, and album by the same name, came out in 1968 and was the Amboy Dukes' biggest hit of their career. They actually called themselves the Nugent Amboy Dukes when they formed in Chicago in 1964, but on their first album in 1967 they called themselves just the Amboy Dukes. They moved to Detroit in 1968 and that is where they were known there-after to have been from. Ted Nugent's well known style and sound is clear even on this early song of his career, though this video is staged.

  • @gregboyds - even then, playing a big hollow-body Gibson!

  • 2:22 sounded alot like black sabbath....got chills

  • @natebham That's the part I always waited for back in the day. My hand hovered over the volume knob just to crank up that one short riff. I like the rest of the song too.

  • @wardka You wouldn't believe it, i saw this a couple weeks ago on metal evolution show about how metal got started and i liked it when they showed the riff, and then the next morning that riff was stuck in my head. Then it went away, then at work i heard it again on the radio and i was like wow who is this band. Then i thought oh ya i saw this before on that metal show and was just hooked watching it i can't get enough of this riff and the solo is also awesome for its time.LOL

  • @wardka oh yeah the rest of it is good. but yeah when that part comes on i turn it up. that riff was way ahead of its time.

  • Im diggin the go go girls

  • Back then Uncle Ted didn't have to shoot game meat........he just roamed the woods in that outfit and scared the elk and moose to death

  • Checkout Ted!!!!!

  • Has to be in my top 10 guitar riffs...

  • The singer seems constipated.

  • Is Ted wearing some kind of weird eye makeup in this video?

  • @HonkIfYouLoveHonking Nah, it's just his curls hanging kind of in his eyes at times.

  • @youthrevisitedagain Check it out from 3:25 to the end. It's a freaky effect if it's only the curls in front of his eyes.

  • Detroit!

  • Damn, I can't believe he was my age (19) at the time.

  • It is funny listening to an interview with Nugent saying this isn't about drugs when by the lyrics you can tell it is about an acid trip.

  • Whether or not this song is about drugs doesn't matter when you consider that it's a rip off of the Moody Blues who were all about psycheldelic drugs.

  • @HonkIfYouLoveHonking Not a rip off. Moody Blues style was totally different.

  • @keaton1895 You can't hear the Moody Blues influence in this song? Seems obvious to me.

  • @keaton1895 Listen to "Ride My Seesaw", "Lovely to See You Again" or about a dozen other songs by the Moody Blues that have the same sound and style of this song.

    Especially Ride My Seesaw.

Don't feel bad, I didn't recognize the "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" was an obvious take on the sound of CCR until it was pointed out to me.

  • UNCLE TED!!!!!!!!!

  • kingofthebeach27. Thanks for caring man. By the way, Captain Beyond had one really good song "Nothing left To Live For", They really did a good job on that one. Ted, well he is just Ted Nugent and nuff said. Dino (now deceased) from QMS was supurb on vocals. They introduced (Who Do you Love, Wy Do You Love, Where Do You Love, and How Do You Love), The song lasted for about 20 minutes. I remember dino saying "House mad outa Rattlesnake Hides". Fucking Awesome, Cleartwater.

  • Ted Nugent says the song is not about drugs -- yeah right!

  • That is just too cool...

  • The Amboy Dukes. One of my first concerts. it was held at Peony park, Omaha. Ne. in 1966. Man it was beautiful and one of the first songs I can remember that was rock. Ted Nugent did a prety good job. Also Captian Beyond and QMS was on the show for a fucking 4 bucks. Can you believe the shit they charge nowdays. Man This was even before I went to Vietnam. Kinda special for me. Cleartwater.

  • @Cleartwater That is just too cool...

  • lol they treat their groupies like dirt...

  • I've just decided Nigel Tufnel is a better guitarist than ted.

  • Funny how they're all decked out in psychedelic garb except Nugent, who's sporting a conservative-looking suit!

  • Wow! Nothing beats the music of the late 1960's!

  • such a talented guy but what a doucebag

  • @lovegeorgeharrison60 Takes one to know one...sounds like you're an expert.

  • didja notice the clip from 0:00 to 0:12 was cut and pasted to 3:10

  • I believe that ted is at the top of the top of the best guitar players and not in the bottom. I feel also that it is a matter of opinion.van gogh sold 1painting in his life and today he is at the top of the artistic people. Happy Holidays.

  • I was just turning 14 in 1968 when this jem hit the airwaves of Detroit"s mighty, The Big 8, Detroit, Windsor's giant am radio 800 on the dial radio station. I would listen earnestly so I could hear it again that day. Brings back great memories!

  • Remember when you were cool and real Ted, back then, not so much now though!

  • Love you Uncle Teddy!

  • teds best

  • @rob99rst

By all rights you mean, Steve Farmer's best! He wrote it and sang it!

  • My first favorite rock song! Notice this was lip synced off the album. :>

  • Ted's ego is showing-most lead guitars don't have to stand next to the lead singer while the rest of the band plays in the background.

  • the dawn of modern hard rock

  • i lived o the corner of grand blvd & charloviuox right up from bell isle when this came out

  • One Cymbal Crash and Now You See The Real Deal.

  • Uncle Ted for Executioner!

  • There's no substitute for talent.

  • almost looks like Star Trek meets an acid trip in Detroit City

  • Uncle Ted For President(:

  • Sorry... No, Ted Nugent should Yes, maybe be on a Top 200 Best Guitarists but, not top 100. On a different subject check this out ...

Side Note: Check the song "TOBACCO ROAD" listed in the RELATED VIDEOS -Column on the Right of This Page.

Do a YOUTUBE Search for "TOBACCO ROAD".

  • lsd

  • Nuge...:)

  • King david was a fantastic leader and musician in israel. Ted should emulate him and his politics rather than adolph hitler.just joking. He is a good boy.

  • FroGGer

  • Music >>>> Politics

  • It's a damn shame such an amazing guitarist has a racist, homophobic, psychotic killer of a mind.

  • @TwistedSpeech likely before he lost it.

  • these wimpy emo groups today know nothing of go-go girls!

  • So good. Plus, what a great title

-the journey to the center of the mind-

  • Where are my Go-Go dancers ?? I'll take the blonde with the funky "Checkered Dress/ Past"...

  • Ted looks like Tony Alva in this clip..

  • @scottrap Haha totally

  • @scottrap

Lookin' like Tony! Good one,I can only imagine if Ted would have been a skater!

  • This the best of our generation great music Iam stuck in the 60s and 70s BG

  • 1:58!

  • 2:22 EARGASM!!!!!!!

  • a very young ted nugent on guitar!

  • Best Bird Land of all time!

  • For the longest time I thought this was the Moody Blues song, still a classic psychedelic rock masterpiece!

  • I too remember that dark day when the Muslims declared jihad on the Christians. I was down at the local store and a man came rushing up with a telegram and in 72 pt font it said "JIHAD ON CHRISTIANS. Yours truly, Islam" and I was like, whoa.

    Also, RIP Greg Arama.

  • RIP Nathaniel Fisher

  • Ted looks like he's as high as a kite.

  • @LeeB9999 just crazy he never did any durgs; guy loves god, hunting and rock and roll don't have time for drugs when your that bat shit crazy haha.

  • guitar almost sounds like "Don't Cha Stop" by the Cars

  • I always LOVED this song!

  • heck yes russk ship all the muslim,s back to the sand box in this country. as for the ilegel,s here ship them back. It is not this country,s obilliogion to support them. becaus they are to dummb to change their own country and scared of offending the pope and the calithhic church

  • I wish Ted Nugent would run for president of America.. he is what the country needs..He at least loves the U.S.A. We could send the fucking Muslims running for cover!!! They can go back to their sand box & die!!!!!!! They declared jihad on the Christians I think we need an open season on muslims! They mutilate their female children and hate women. They are EVIL and need to be exterminated. We also need an open season on illegal aliens I am tired of my tax money going to pay for them!

  • @russk1971 shhh remember that people are people... don't cast blanket statements on entire groups of people

  • I saw Nugent live in Seattle during the peak of his popularity, I believe his big hit at the time was Cat Scratch Fever. He and his band, Derek StHolms and all were great. Now, though, he just sounds like a caricature of himself. But despite this, I still like him in a nostalgic sort of way. Deep down, there is good guy inside that reactionary, narrow minded outer crust. Maybe not.

  • Amazing what happened to this guy? Instead of his mind opening it became more shut!? I mean scruples man! You know determining whether something is right? Maybe he is undercover? as in CIA FBI EFG HJK WUO etc etc Maybe he was bitten on the neck by Dick asshole Nixon. Teddy you were great in your Amboy Dukes days... Bad acid maybe? Oh well

  • @datarecoil No asshole is mind became right not blind like you stupid fucking liberals.

  • @spahnman What was that? I couldn't understand a thing you said except you stupid fucking liberals. Think out your argument before you take a shot of whiskey and post them on youtube!

  • reded dont forget "chicken hawk draft dodging raped a 14 yr old girl ted!!

  • Is that howard stern on guitar?

  • This with out a dubt is the first heavy metal song !

  • Ted dont stress yourself out so much I stayed at your place in Detroit and you claimed to be Elastic man thanks for the rest but you wouldnt shut up! you kept us up all night

  • Well hells bells, if it ain't that neo-consrevative, flag waving fascist jerk off Ted Nugent.

    F# ck him!!!!

  • great song, from a great era ... even if i was young, remember it very well!

  • love them dancin girls

  • I believe Nugent is the only one present who isn't living the lyrics.

  • @aiames Yeah',and although I didn't listen I actually took it in and mulled it over a bit more when Ted was the one who told Tom S. on the Late Show about the stupidity of taking massive drugs & that he is naturally freaked out, more than when Nancy Reagan started saying ' just say no'. I honestly think that those of us who were 3-5 years old in the late 60's were naturally tripping ourselves. Seeing the hippies just looked normal to my little brain. (lol)

  • Just as well this isn't in color. It's almost fit-inducing as it is.

I mean that in a good way.

  • @aiames Yay, it's about time people started talking more about the video than Ted's politics. I could give a fat rat's ass about his politics: this is just a great song, he's showing his skill, he wrote the music to the song, they've got go-go dancers, driving bass, acid trip lyrics, and it's filmed well making sure to focus on Ted during the best guitar parts. And as others said, at 2:22 that's a killer heavy sound on an otherwise pop song. That little part there makes it much cooler. (:

  • he's a beat not only with a guitar he has like 3 black belts and hunts like hell

  • Heard this song a million times, but I've never seen this video. Ted Nugent in a suit is absolutely killing me.

  • Was there an intro to this song? ie what I mean is 1 1/2 long mini speech. Has anyone ever heard it? I'm tryin to find it but I cant. Any suggestions?

  • This is Ted BEFORE he contracted cat scratch fever.

  • @steviea427

Ted nugent is at his best HERE in this song!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!! But sadly, yes, he turned into a facist (re-publican). Sorry to be political here - but the truth cannot be denied but by those who are blind.

  • @brian9570 Yes my friend. The world very rarely gives a perfect narrative to hang on to. There is always something to disappoint. All we can do is rock-on the best we can. Keep on keepin' on my brother.

  • @brian9570 Log off, shut up and go cash your welfare check.

  • Sounds like a Gibson Maestro fuzzbox. Great sound.

  • This song contains what I feel is one of the first heavy metal guitar riffs(@2:22-234).

  • he's 12 years older than me that's why he's my Uncle :)

  • Ted is about 63

  • PsYcHeDeLiC!!!!

  • Awesome song. How old is Ted Nugent. This is 45 years ago. His guitar playing is off the hook even though he looks like Howard Stern.

  • A time for love and a time for hate. King david wrote,do i not hate them oh lord. Yes i do hate them with perfect hatred. Get a good bible concordance and look up the word hate. I do not deny my own life if isay i hate.anyways this is not a case of hatred it,s. my opinion of how i feel. When one suffers enough in this world one shouldn't convulse. .and take seizures over a few words . Life goes on and itha.nk the good lord for all the love and life he bestows on those who love him.

  • ActuallyCumminsH1 i do have a very good life beyond belief.. I thank the good LordGod for everyone and everything. Some people and things in this life you can not love. I do not dwelve on hatred. To err is human but to forgive devine is commonly known adage from william shakespeer. Some peoplke will not allow themselves to accept forgiveness the right way and some are so arragant that erring is not in their vocablary. No matter what you cannot talk to them.

  • I am a christian and this hypocracy that ted supports turns my stomach.

  • @magistrorm2 You really need to get a life. Lose the hate.

  • @magistrorm2 does labeling urself rise u above us?

  • Fyall

  • Groups that turn my stomack. He ough to play guitar for lawerence welk or pat boone or another one of these jazz prodigies. To praise these groups is pur stupidity and very offensive to me because they are the biggest assholes that have ever lived. They ought to change their names to the biggest fuckin assholes that have ever lived. No equels before during or after them. A piece of shit. Ibelieve his plaing of the song is fantastic. To mention them is as he does is ridiculous and absird.

  • The michigan gang is really something madona nugent seeger diana ross . That is only a few. Somehow michigan has produced so many artists that one wonders why and how. Ohio is another state. Texas california and new york also. Getting back to theadorius, imean ted. Ifeel he plays hi instrument well. I dont have a gripe with him there but politics is really obnoxious and nauseating. Before his live star spangled banner he makes this gigantic and monstrous invocation about the fbi and other.

  • This song is one of the top five LSD advertisements EVER.

    ...you might not come back!

they should have gotten some sort of advertising award for the song.

Itchycoo Park and Purple Haze are also great acid ads.

It's true, though, that the Nuge didn't care for this song, even then.

  • This song is one of the most influential songs in the history of rock music. It was one of the greatest trailblazers ever. It set a pattern that influenced rock music to this day and it is still a guiding light of significant importance. It is one of the greatest hit songs ever written and played. There is blues music, jazz, and many other styles. There is also rock. You cannot have blues without b.b. King or classical without Beethoven and in rock, especialy american. Without Ted Nugent. Truth!

  • Whoever put dislike on this needs to get their ears cleaned

  • Ted is a piece of shit! in a band singin about the times, then later playing stupid that he didnt know what the song is about! he shoulda took his guns to war & got his lying fucking head blown off.. dog eat dog..

  • Uncle Ted rules.

  • you know guitar world did a pole about the heaviest songs before sabbath, i think the riff at 2:20 should have taken the crown, pity this song was not even on the list oh well

"how happy life would be if all of man kind would take the time to journey to the center of the mind" senior quote

  • @cowbelltell Also the fact that Ted Nugent is not on Rolling Stones top 100 guitarists is a crime! I'm a liberal too but the fact that you can deny someone being in that list just because of their politics is just stupid

  • @PixiesFanatic thank you! people should really stop politicizing through music. it's a good medium of political expression but i mean when theres too much of it, then it just becomes ridiculous and the music gets affected by it

  • @PixiesFanatic I would have guessed he'd be on the top 100 too.

  • @PixiesFanatic and therein lies the problem with liberals. You expressed it perfectly.

  • @PixiesFanatic This fact proves that politics trumps talent every time because music is a corporatist venture. Thank God Bach, Beethoven, & Mozart didn't have to prove themselves PC or they would be unknown today.

  • Ted handles that guitar like a rifle, don't he?

  • i'll take my beaver medium rare under a sweaty mini skirt

  • @volvo4422 medium rare is bloody, I think medium well (warm pink center) is better in this case.

  • ISN'T MR. NUGENT SUPERFABULOUS.

  • i was considered smart in the USN

  • Hi Ted I know u read this I would if I were you,I'm a long time Detroit Fan am 51 years old and I hate commies more each day :)

ot that I'll physically hurt them a prison cell will be enough mental torture for them

  • this was a #1 because of Ted

  • Ted never freaked out u did

  • as u can see

  • Ted said he didn't realize this song was about drugs,he's a hunter naturalist he thought it meant mental eptitude which he has without drugs

  • u gotta love him! unless u suck

  • Early Uncle Ted u commie cocksuckers!!!

  • Did Mr.nugent go from the deep left to the far right politically. I do not remember, but I do remember that most hard rock groups in the sixties were with the left mentality as far as the war and politics went. You know free love and drugs were all a part of it.The right wingers were more or less like the johnny Mann singers, The straits as they were called then liked a lot of things especially soft pop andmusic and hosts of social hillbbbillyisms. The hard rockets were all into drugs alcohol.

  • @HarveyHenkelmann The Founding Fathers were the most radical liberals in all of human history. Liberal means favorable to political reform. Yes, it's true. Read a dictionary. Deal with it.

  • @HarveyHenkelmann You are right once again. I'm going to start doing that from here on out.

  • To HarveyHenkelmann: This is my 2nd of 2 posts to you as a continuation of my previous post. The latest trend that I've noticed in these YouTube chat areas is that there are "anti-American" trolls in most of them. I am convinced that this is an organized effort, and as I said previously...people are getting paid or renumberated somehow to "work" these areas. They'll start the "you're an American, you must be an idiot" dialog with far too much coincidence than would be the norm. But they'll fail.

  • @HarveyHenkelmann You are so right! Harvey...I've absolutely come to the conclusion...and I mean this from the heart...that YouTube is vastly populated by liberal trolls. I don't mean just the average left-leaning citizen that surfs around listening to music. Rather, these are actual operatives that work these YouTube comment areas like it's their job. I honestly believe that it is a organized effort...and I believe that some money must get thrown around at them too. What do you think?

  • Uncle Ted Rules...........

Great intro into future gonzo life....

  • UNCLE TED NUGENT LMAO...............AWESOME!!!!

  • Hate to be a hypocrite, but I love this song. As to Nugent, he can take a flying leap into hell!!

  • @delointain I think it's perfect! There is a slightly colored one from this same show w/ a different song so there should be a more colored one for this. watch?v=8x6orjwYzxE

I keep coming back to this video b/c it's so energetic with the driving bass, fast beat & then Nugent's guitar just adds something different. I think the way they panned the camera in the beginning w/ the go-go dancers & the way they filmed this...from back to front to side views, not straight ahead, makes it more dynamic.

  • Ted never did drugs, so he had no idea this song was about an acid trip! LOL

  • He's dancing that way because he's wearing Ted's pants, and not even god knows what creepy crawlies are bouncing around in there.
