Awesome job! What settings did you use for the exposure? I tried doing a sunset time lapse in my backyard but it looked a bit too dark towards the end. Any pointers would be great.
Is this timelapse feature built into the 500D? Is it saved as a movie or a series of pics? I should be getting a 500D soon - love to do stuff like this.
I used the software that came with the camera (the EOS Utility) to control it via USB cable. It took individual shots every 6 seconds and saved them directly to my computer. I then batch resized them with the Digital Photo Professional (also included) and merged them into a movie with some free JPG to avi software I found online.
Thanks - is there a way to save these pics directly to SD card (would be more practical on a beach, say). Can't see myself lugging a laptop around with me!
Well, the laptop was required to actually trigger the camera every six seconds (via the EOS Utility software). So, while you can have it save the pics to the camera instead, you'll still need the laptop, since the camera unfortunately has no built-in timer function.
I forgot to mention that I also used an A/C adaptor for the camera so that I could make sure it didn't run out of battery in the process, since this video represents about 3000 shots.
What settings did u use for the time laps?

Very cool. Two questions:
1) What program did you compile the movie with?
2) How long did you set the images in the post-editing for? .25 seconds per image? The timing was nice in this video.

What software did u use..does it havea built in movie maker for the timelapse
nil1230 2 years ago
it dosent have a timelapse movie maker built in.
he is most likely using canon eos utility, if not he is using a remote timer.
