Hmm... What if 4 Swords/4 Swords adventures take place after a 4th branch. Yup. You heard me.(Read me..?) I mean, what if there's an un-released 4th branch that will be "revealed" next game, and those 4 branches connect once more, to the 4 Swords/4SA games, showing the Four Links Grouping up against the All-Mighty Evil? Idk. It sounds crazy and all but may be true... One can dream, now can't he?
@outdatedboat Every Link in the Adult Timeline is not blood related to the Hero of Time in OoT. So in Wind Waker, it's a completely new Link, not the Child Hero of Time.
@outdatedboat because when he goes to the past he is a kid. the adult timeline continues with out him. he is just missing because he is back in the past. when he places the master sword back, he is a kid.
In my opinion, I believe the way Link fails is he goes to the future in OOT and defeats Ganon and restores peace 7 years in the future. Then, he returns 7 years to the past and tells Zelda about everything that happened and what they need to do to defeat Ganondorf but, in this timeline they do not succeed. The 7 years in the future hasn't happened so there was no progress made in Links original time and maybe they couldn't get the sages help the same way or something. Who knows?
@liberatedanimal Not to mention the fact that future games could be made to fit between certain games in the storylines, they don't all have to come after 4 swords, Links Adventure or Spirit Tracks. I would love to see a full Twilight Princessish looking game that took place in Link to the Pasts World. Whether a Pre or Sequel! ;P I don't think a remake on a 3-D plane would hold up without having to change too much of the gameplay and structure so a new game in the same Hyrule would make sense
@liberatedanimal To further elaborate, maybe whatever they need to do to defeat Ganondorf once Link returns as a child can't yet be done but, then Link goes off to Termina and maybe he doesn't save Termina and dies, which can actually happen in game or maybe Link does save Termina and return to Hyrule only to fail at defeating Ganondorf and so here's the split where either Ganondorf gets the Triforce so on to ALTTP or Hyrules flooded or what happens between MM and TP, Links failure?
There should be a game where Link goes on a quest to save all 3 time lines, uses an instrument to go to alternate planes. ie, A gate was build further away from you, and one is closer. go to the closer gate realm and switch to get to the other side to get past the gate.
see, its weird. When I first played windwaker. I naturally thought that he didnt appear in to stop the rise of Ganon at all because he got lost in Termina as a child and so the events of Ocarina of Time never even took place. And Ganon escaped. But now I realize that child Link told Zelda about it and they stopped it...my bad.
they should have a game where one of the timeline links fail and a link from the other timeline has to go and either help it or destroy the other ones to make one timeline again!
It's funny once when I was adult Link in OoT I Walked into a windmill and a man popped outta now where saying "You Played It AGAIN" and a song I always heard in majora's mask played in the windmill so probably when Link in OoT was sealed by Rauru He must've taught me a new song but when I play it a rain storm comes jk jk I know what the song is called by checking my dead young link inventory with the 8th year glitch and the song of storms was there
Notice that with the exception of the Oracles, all the games in the 3rd branch were created early on. This implies the developers then had no intention of ever creating a timeline and just made shit up. When they did OOT, they wanted to try something new, and thus came the need for a new timeline. The second branch makes perfect sense, although why does it take 1000 years?
As for the first branch, one can assume Link marries Malon, becomes a rancher, and TP Link is descended from them.
Up until recently Nintendo was just making shit up as it went. There's no other explanation for such a convoluted timeline. Honestly I'd rather they not worry about a timeline and just treat each individual game as a separate interpretation of the mythology; a reboot so to speak.
@Kagemusha08 Well, yeah, that's pretty obvious. I find it surprising that people actually thought that Nintendo had a timeline in mind since the beginning. I mean, seriously? No.
who care about the time line .if this mean nintendo will start making bad zelda game to go with the time line that would suck . nintendo should just keep on making BAD AS* zelda games :)
lol jk. I just love A Link to the Past and the Oracle games too much, and the other games in the failure timeline. I want them to happen!!!
....I do like Wind Waker a lot though, but Spirit Tracks was blaaah.....Twilight Princess was a bit blaaah too, but Four Swords Adventures was fun to play with friends.....
I agree with the whole thing EXCEPT the placement of Four Swords Adventures after Twilight Princess. Vaati is in that game, which if he was defeated back in Four Swords, and Minish Cap, why would he be back again?
Interesting stuff although I doubt this timeline was planned from the start, still its impressive it was even possible to sort all these lines at all into a coherent map. Cool video man. :D
@marina00ish cd-i games are not official zelda games. and yes spoiler alert, but as mentioned if you are talking about the zelda timeline, then it should be assumed that it will spoil it.
That Link was defeated doesn`t mean that he was killed. The original timeline, which leads to aLttP is the only timeline where the Hero of Time failed at beating Ganon, thus being defeated by him. He abandoned the original timeline for ever, when he changed the past for the first time. That`s why in that timeline adult-Link never beats Ganon, nor does childLink warn Zelda! That`s the timeline of the defeat of the Hero of Time, since Ganon continues to put Hyrule into Chaos as seen in the future.
I think Zelda is meant to be more like Archie. Its better that questions are not asked about why they write a lot of exams but don't seem to be graduating from college. They exist in comics for years and there is no real timeline that says what happened when. Similarly, we have a character called Zelda and a Link trying to save her. The only connection is between the immediate sequels that Nintendo announces where the story continues after the events of the previous game.
hey Eric, didnt know if you got my invite to my channel to check out my "World Of Nintendo store" collection room. thought seeing how we're "neighbors" lol
you'd enjoy it,check it out and let me know what ya think :)
I really dig your timeline man! I just made a video explanation myself, there are definitely a lot of room for more games Zelda games which is something to look forward to.
It took skyward sword to start it all...OMgawsh. Just makes me want to play OoT again...I'll make sure that Link doesn't fail...split story 3 will not happen under my watch!!! Looking forward to your next game review *splatterhouse...cough* =)
Even though The other Timelines happened My heart is with Zelda 1 and 2 so with the other timelines Its like what if the Original Link had lived.... Plus I remember Nintendo saying Link in Link to the past was a different person... although they ment from the Original game but anyways lol
And yes actually the reason you are sent in the future by Rauru is exactely BECAUSE Young Link failed against Ganondorf (couldn't master the Master sword), specially now that we know that this timeline is confirmed.
The ending only explains one timeline, not the third one that is created when Young Link is sealed by Rauru after he fails against Ganon (something that the game never show). That is the Link failure timeline, when Link goes back in time, he does go after he've been to the past for the last time (explains why changes are still there unlike MM for example), but of course before he dies. There's a reason why the book says "Link is defeated" rather than "Link does not exist or Link disapears"
The fact that support this is the Song of Storm quest, when you learn it as a adult out of nowhere (, Dead Young Link already played it somehow during his failed quest, but the game never show it. But the fact that Windmill man says "you played it AGAIN", prove that fact, how can it be "Again", if it's the first time you've played it in YOUR quest?
@dirofreak I'm not sure I understand what you are saying but am interested to hear more. I don't understand where you are coming up with Link dying. As far as we know he is released from the seal by Rauru as an adult and then the rest of the game takes place. There is only ever one Link despite the creation of three timelines, no?
Nice video. I don't think the Failed Timeline means Link died in OoT though. I think at some point when Link was messing around with time he went to a different timeline. One good theory is that when he went back to obtain the Lens of Truth and the Silver Gauntlents he affected that future because he changed past events and didn't return to that particular timeline, which turns out to be the Failed one because he wasn't there anymore to stop Ganon.
@Shellshocker1013 yeah I agree with this theory and it is explained here on youtube by YourHeroes. Link not existing by not returning to that timeline causing Ganon to get the full triforce makes sense. Removing himself in this timeline is supported in that the Hero of Time is never mentioned in LTTP, Oracles, etc. games
@messyvideogamenerd Well that's weird. The time thing could make sense but him dying....? Strange considering we played the game and he doesn't die. The Game Over theory is idiotic because that could happen in any Zelda game. I wish they would release the book in English.
@Shellshocker1013 its just a different timeline that is possible, that connects the rest of the games. easiest way is to just look at it as something that could happen and not that did happen.
Thanks for the great video. It is strange that Big N showed an official timeline despite the fact they're telling everytime that the games don't follow any specific timelines. But I can live with this conclusion and I think also that in the next installment Nintendo will sum up all loose ends. But only to create more loose ends. ;-) BTW: What happened to the "great" CD-i-Titles. LOL
