BUT, i do understand their frustration if Lincoln wasn't even on the ballots down there and yet he was still elected. The President is not the only representative in Washington. The South had Senators, Congressmen, etc, and an opportunity to elect a new president in four years. And Presidents have always represented people who didn't vote for them. That's part of the deal. We don't require unanimity. If Breckinridge had won, the North wouldn't have seceded.

In the 1856 election, the Republican candidate for president received NO votes in 13 of the 15 slave states. So who gives a shit if Lincoln was on the ballot? It didn't matter in the slightest. What mattered is that We the People elected a free soil president. That's what caused the South to secede and start shooting even before he took office.

Wrong. Lincoln was elected in November of 1860 and took office in March of 1861. The first shots were fired at Fort Sumter in Charleston on April 12, 1861. I am not an apologist for racist Southerners, either. You are just close minded. If you are referring to the shots fire at the Star of the West supply ship sent by President Buchanan, then it's back to college for you, actually. Those were not the first shots of the war. If Lincoln perhaps called for a conference in which they would sit and discuss certain issues the South had issues with (there was a lot more than just slavery), maybe the war could have been avoided. Robert E. Lee himself thought slavery was an evil institution. He was not fighting to keep slavery legal. He was fighting for the rights of the states and against a large and imposing federal government. I'm not saying they were right, either.

The South rejected every non-violent solution that would have even RESTRICTED slavery (much less abolished it!), and seceded, fired on us, adopted a constitution, and set up a capitol before Lincoln even took office. It is not "KKK-style bullshit" to believe that slavery could have been ended without loss of life. Many historians talk about this, too. Do yourself a favor and read actual accounts that were written back then. The South was more mad about the overall state of the federal government. Slavery was a part of a bigger picture. Had they been treated more fairly, slavery would have eventually been phased out peacefully. Now, look at what I just wrote. None of it sounds racist or "KKK-style" to me.

Wow dude you have some real issues. I do not wish any of that and I am not a racist at all. I never said they should have waited centuries. When I say slavery would have been phased out eventually, I mean REALLY phased out. Emancipation was great, BUT, many of the slaves ended up working on the same plantation they were slaves on just to make ends meet.

If we had phased it out, people would have gotten more used to the idea and the entire civil rights movement of the 60s might not have even be needed. I despise all forms of racism and collectivism. But you realize by saying that all Southerners are "racist", you are being collectivist yourself.

And how eventually? Well, toward the end of the war, Jefferson Davis and even Robert E. Lee said they would support ending slavery. So I'm thinking it wouldn't have taken that long, AND the lives of 600,000 Americans could have been spared. How's THAT for ya, you racist, welfare-living, uneducated, moron? Wow wow, what does it matter if Lee was a general or not? He was anti-slavery and he was the head GENERAL of the Confederate Army. He was part of your collectivist idea of southern racists.
