You Can't Activate Hyperspeed with the dualshock, instead have the Guitar controller in slot 2 and just use that to activate hyperspeed, then go ahead start playing with the dualshock and bam hyperspeed!

You with a dual shock 1 (the ps1 one), that's how the game can tell if it's a red octane guitar or another brand.
