@Pril79 were you kayaking? tubing? tandem canoeing? the first two choices are pretty easy, it takes skill to navigate this river in a canoe with a partner. but way more fun in my opinion. regardless, being on that river is a blast no matter what you're doing...as long as it's not trying to pull your boat out of a log jam :(
@DaSchnozz Kayaking didn't tip once the water was higher this year from what my husband said. only got stuck on a log 1 time but no log jams i got stuck on top of a log. I'm lucky because i weigh nothing so i sort of float on top of the water in the boat most of the places where others were getting stuck due to the lower water to the rock i was breezing through. So much fun!!!
Love this, thanks! My first ever kayak experience I was just driving around and decided to try a very short trip, was by myself. Of course I went around a turn, into an overhanging tree and dumped almost right away. Yes there are lots of overhanging trees! Was in an eddy spot that was over my head and did barely manage to catch the kayak as I was concentrating on holding onto my paddle, my hat . I am a good swimmer but my PFD certainly helped in that situation. What an intro to kayaking!
It's great to see a solo canoeist take on the Sturgeon. Because of downed trees, this river is demanding. What I can't understand, is why someone would paddle this river without a PFD...life jacket. The water is cold!
I agree!! We did this river a couple years ago, the water is very cold.
I don't think it matters if a person is a good swimmer or not, when you dump you have to worry about catching your boat and paddle, why add the extra worry about having to swim too? We always wear our life jackets!
at the brige u cross at about 1:50 in ur vid im so sure thats the one that me and my boys wer jumping of last summer had a great time canoeing down the sturgen,
Thanks for posting this. Group of friends are going again this year.. My first year!

Been there many times. Love the fast current and small rapids. Most fun water in the LP in my opinion. Only downside is that it's only a day trip.

I'm a good swimmer and the shore is only 20 feet away. I have ridden a log down the Rock River in Montana, this, piece of cake. DMG

@michiganinteractive i agree..this river is easy while soloing it. all you need to do is through in a rudder and it's a cake walk..err paddle

Cool video! It's neat to see the river I fish so often through the eyes of a canoer. Thanks!
