Civil liberties act (date 1800's?) and why is that relevant to a discussion in 2007? All Americans benefited in the 1990's when the Clinton's was in office. The introduction of crack/coccaine into Black community and Reagan's domestic policies nearly devastated the black community. Bush's domestic policies benefit big business and not the middle class. So why should a black person or an American vote Republican?

I stated a fact. Repubs as a party voted in a greater percentage for the civil rights bill. In terms of absolute numbers. The vote was something like 146 dems YES 34 opposed. Republicans votes 118 Yes 10 opposed. Countries like Iran attaining nuclear capablity is inevitable. The US can slow the process down by providing economic incentives, being diplomatic, assisting in humanitarian efforts. Look careful at the JC/NK agreement. I already had this debate. The agreement was for the construction of light water reactor to replace graphite moderated reactors. The LW reactor is harder to use for nuclear weapons than the former. They were to be destroyed per agreement. Plus there was to be inspectors on the ground. Deal was not carried out when it was learned NK was seeking high grade uranium from Pakistan. So its a little bit more complex and offered a benefit if it worked.

I'll agree that blacks are block voters but they vote based on their interest rather than somebodys skin color. If some company wants to make more money shipping jobs overseas and lobbies congress to put it in a bill, it runs counter to most Americans including blacks interest. During Clinton era there was a huge economic expansion benefiting all Americans. Clinton grew up in the south and one could get a sense he identified with blacks more which also helped.
