  • Well there you go, you learn something new everyday. I knew it was based on a true event, but not the fine points like the route name instead of the engine number. Thanks for the extra information. Cheers from Ruffcut :)

  • This was based on an actual event. What people took to be his whistle breaking into a scream was his breaks. The rescuers found him still alive in the wreck, but pinned by his legs. The boiler was above him on the hill and had ruptured. He was screaming to cut his legs off and get him away from the hot water that was moving down towards him. They didn't and he was scalded to death, though not be steam. Incidentally, 97 was the run, not the engine.

  • Thanks for the fumbs up :). My picking style is a cross between frailing and claw hammer, my influences come from traditional banjo styles that predate Bluegrass. And of course the rest is self taught which is also traditional. Cheers from Ruffcut :)
