Was at the Hammersmith 'Greendale' gig too...in fact sat near Roger Waters in the audience ! I love Greendale, but yes I agree this is probably the best track on the album...got tickets to see old Shakey at Manchester this year...can't wait...although you never know what Neil will do....he's never been predictable but therein lies his genius.....can't seem him selling out and doing a greatest hits tour no time soon.....Keep on Rocking in the Free World !
Hi-the publicity blurb reckons 'The Man' will perform two sets; the first an acoustic performance and the second an electric set backed by a full band consisting of Ben Keith (guitar), Rick Rosas (bass) and Ralph Molina (drums). Sorry you can't get into Chrome Dreams.....I am doing ok with it...in fact the only album I could never ever get into was his sabotage album...'Landing on Water'.....but then I am a real 'NeilHead'
I like Hippy Dream and one or two others off that. Not his worst album IMHO. I've been a real Neil head too since Time Fades ... just seem to be listening to other stuff these days, and the last album I loved of his was Silver and Gold.
Cheers. Yes I'd agree best song - but then I don't like Greendale to be honest, except this song and maybe a couple of others. I think this is best song of the last few years.
Hi shakey - it's a few months since I posted this so not 100% sure. Used Google Images to turn up Neil Young Greendale related stuff. A lot of the photos are from the Greendale film or set, some of the art is from the Greendale CD sleeve I think, and there might even be one or two original drawings from people that I've 'borrowed'. Cheers.
Many thanks. This song is a sparkling pearl in amongst -- in my view -- a lot of mediocre tunes on Greendale. But I guess Greendale wasn't all about the songs, more the whole story ...
Hi - Many thanks for the comment. I prefer playing it in Neil Young's 'D-modal' or double drop-D, which is what this is (ie both top and bottom E tuned down to D). But according to Hyperrust Neil then drops all strings another two full steps (?) - anyway all the D's become Bb - so you end up with BbFBbEbGBb. That way the bass string does the massive buzzing you get on the CD, but I find it harder to sing -- and worry I'll break too many strings when I tune back up!
Thanks yes my favourite too. My recording set up broke down in the second part of the chorus - hence only 2'00 worth. I'll maybe have another go at the weekend.
Great cover! My favorite song from Greendale. I saw him play it live the first time I heard it and this song just blew mw away. You should have done the entire song.
That[s not Neil Young, that[s an old man!

I like it! I have my own version on DVD but I can't convert it....drive on the fritz...I might work it up and do it again.

Awesome job.
It is very hard to successfully duplicate Neil's stuff, and rather than try to sound like him you inject your own voice/style.
Wonderful job!
