  • oh yeah, going to be my favorite neil song for a while.

  • Lovely version, but the one on Re-ac-tor is unleashed and has much more of an energy to it. If you like that in music of course :) Thanks for posting

  • Shots is the gem of Reactor. Thanks for uploading this live acoustic version!

  • What album can this be found on?

    Thanks

  • thanks for these uploads!!

  • Damn, I really wish he didn't take out the bridge for the Re-Ac-Tor version. Such a sweet melody.

  • Hey, It's me," Cosmo "....I worked at the Boarding House along with, Buzz , Maple , David Allen and the whole crew ! Contact me if you have any good memories .

  • acoustic, electric, whatever - one of neil's best! thanks for posting

  • Neil songs do that to ya...

  • Friend, I have been looking to get rid of this song after getting my graduate degree in Shots at neil young u. thank you for helping me rediscover what I was trying to lose. Hey you got pics of Neil that I've never seen .. good job man.

  • Much better in it's original acoustic form.

  • Best song on Reactor. This acoustic version is just amazing.

  • fantastic version. I love Reactor. Underestimated album. This version is cool. I would've loved to be there too

  • He released it three years later on "Re-ac-tor", as a punk rocker song.

  • Thanks for posting this. I'm more into his electric stuff, but this is actually a lot better than the reactor version.

  • very different from re-ac-tor

    I prefer this version

The grunge on re-ac-tor is nice

But this is very melodically pleasing

  • friend, i have been looking for this song, not knowing the name, and not quite finding the lyrics, title lost in the fog of my life, thank you, thank you,, thank you.

  • The electric version of Shots you will find on Neil's Reactor Album which is one of his best.

  • @cwest7975 i luv when that happens, i know exactly how ya feel !!!!

  • Neil! I wish that you had been there for me, when I was a young working class nerd kiss-fan hero.

I wish I had found you.

  • that pic at 1:44 is the best phot of him . and the cover of jimmy mcdonoughs "shakey"

  • machines...

  • what a post - I love the way he does both acoustic and electric versions.I love this but it has'nt the sheer power and energy of the electric one.

  • The acoustic versions are more oneiric and spooky. The electric cut with the Horse has torrential energy and is angrier. Both are Neil at his best, I feel.

  • The Boarding House gigs were filmed. You see some footage in Neil's 1982 film, "Human Highway" so hopefully, we'll see some of the performances in volume 2 of the Archives.

  • I was just about to post a comment reguarding this. I have bits and pieces of this particular setlist and some recordings on tape. He played "Ways of Love" for the first time at this show and "Ride my Llama" of course as we both have seen the footage of him playing that in Human Highway.

  • "Powderfinger" was performed for the first time, too - the later show of 26th May 1978. The performance isn't that inspiring, though - no harmonica. That song started out as an solo-acoustic song but he amped it up for the "Rust Never Sleeps" tour with Crazy Horse.

The Neil and Devo version is on here now, btw. Add this to the address bar:

This is the best acoustic version of "Powderfinger" I feel:

  • one of my favorite! thank you for uploading the live version.

  • Hawks and doves both are tremendous birds. If you watch them carefully...

  • Thanks for posting your videos of Neil's music!

  • The week-long performances (two shows per night, monday thru friday) at The Boarding House in May 1978 are all great. The best version of "Shots" that week, I feel, was the one from (later?) show of 28th May. Just the way Neil enunciates and phrases the lyrics is spooky as hell! The performances of "Thrasher" from the Boarding House are also amazing, especially the one from the later show of 26th May.

  • both of these are amazing.. the bridge he adds in this version is only neil aka higher power

  • this is really good, but i love the re-ac-tor version too. amazing song.

  • Live Music is Better bumper stickes should be issued...

  • hey i want to someone to put surfer joe on you tube i want to here that one again

  • Smoke us some garfong while we listen to it!

  • and watch him ride the big one

  • Plenty of women, plenty of booze!

  • Yes. I love this version more than the Reactor version! Live music IS better!

  • Man o' man, this one is a treasure for sure. The studio version just kinda got lost on Reactor. But "live": It just gets me. Many thanks!
