Hey, It's me," Cosmo "....I worked at the Boarding House along with, Buzz , Maple , David Allen and the whole crew ! Contact me if you have any good memories .
Friend, I have been looking to get rid of this song after getting my graduate degree in Shots at neil young u. thank you for helping me rediscover what I was trying to lose. Hey you got pics of Neil that I've never seen .. good job man.
friend, i have been looking for this song, not knowing the name, and not quite finding the lyrics, title lost in the fog of my life, thank you, thank you,, thank you.
The acoustic versions are more oneiric and spooky. The electric cut with the Horse has torrential energy and is angrier. Both are Neil at his best, I feel.
The Boarding House gigs were filmed. You see some footage in Neil's 1982 film, "Human Highway" so hopefully, we'll see some of the performances in volume 2 of the Archives.
I was just about to post a comment reguarding this. I have bits and pieces of this particular setlist and some recordings on tape. He played "Ways of Love" for the first time at this show and "Ride my Llama" of course as we both have seen the footage of him playing that in Human Highway.
"Powderfinger" was performed for the first time, too - the later show of 26th May 1978. The performance isn't that inspiring, though - no harmonica. That song started out as an solo-acoustic song but he amped it up for the "Rust Never Sleeps" tour with Crazy Horse.
The Neil and Devo version is on here now, btw. Add this to the address bar:

This is the best acoustic version of "Powderfinger" I feel:
The week-long performances (two shows per night, monday thru friday) at The Boarding House in May 1978 are all great. The best version of "Shots" that week, I feel, was the one from (later?) show of 28th May. Just the way Neil enunciates and phrases the lyrics is spooky as hell! The performances of "Thrasher" from the Boarding House are also amazing, especially the one from the later show of 26th May.
oh yeah, going to be my favorite neil song for a while.

Lovely version, but the one on Re-ac-tor is unleashed and has much more of an energy to it. If you like that in music of course :) Thanks for posting

Damn, I really wish he didn't take out the bridge for the Re-Ac-Tor version. Such a sweet melody.

He released it three years later on "Re-ac-tor", as a punk rocker song.

Thanks for posting this. I'm more into his electric stuff, but this is actually a lot better than the reactor version.

very different from re-ac-tor
I prefer this version
The grunge on re-ac-tor is nice
But this is very melodically pleasing

what a post - I love the way he does both acoustic and electric versions.I love this but it has'nt the sheer power and energy of the electric one.

Man o' man, this one is a treasure for sure. The studio version just kinda got lost on Reactor. But "live": It just gets me. Many thanks!
