  • "Well, yes, indeed, we are all brothers in the true sense that that which is essence in you, that which is essence in me, is indeed one.”

    Ram Dass

  • That's why I'm spiritual regardless of my atheism, because spirituality is when we acknowledge that we are only a part, and that in that, that we don't have all the answers.

  • The human being so gifted yet so blind to what is at it's gaze. Determined to think it's special, detaching it's self from it's own nature. Thinking it's the only animal that is not one. Attached to worthless things and made up ideas. Giving worth to things that have none and neglecting of those that should have.

  • This video is absolutely wonderful !!!

So are you really trying .... to free yourself ?

  • hi i heard you teach sometimes, do you give lectures as well and if so then where cause i would love to go to an actual lecture

  • joined your channel pretty recently, I'm wondering, what do you do in your daily life?

  • @xagell a lot of this actually. And I teach part-time. Occasionally I also present for the ABC (where the A stands for Australian).

  • @1veritasium oh yeah, i've seen you on catalyst

  • @1veritasium At what level do you teach Physics? In other words, let's say I want to be one of your students, what are the requirements academically speaking?

Great and educational videos btw, keep 'em coming! / A new subscriber!

  • @xagell I was wondering the same thing!

  • touching dude

  • are you a buddhist?

  • @miraj0072004 Yeah I was curious too, this quote is very buddhist-ish.

  • @yao9598 it is based on the same concept that human must not be self attached to the greeds in life and materialism

  • Why are you so handsome?

  • what is your camera?

  • @dolunaydainsanolan some of this was GoPro, the better stuff was Panasonic AF100 with a nice Voightlander lens

  • This video is simply amazing. I love all of your videos but this one beats them all. such and amazing quote and presented perfectly.

    Great job

  • uni = single. verse = a spoken sentence. the universe is a single spoken sentence :D

  • dammit. "QUOTE"

  • (i hadnt heard that wuot before)

  • daaayyyyuumm. Thats deep.

  • If you like these vids you would like Vsauce's vids

  • can you suggest any channel as awesome like this :D but about Economics :D plz help me!

  • was that your misses! you lucky bugger.

  • hey mister einstein sir, why don't you tell them how it's done ey? Everybody talks about this circle of "compassion", but nobody says how it is achieved...and it's not by any normal mainstream means, i'll tell you that

  • @Tolstoievsky because it isnt the "circle" is made diferently bye every one but you must find the way that suits you.

  • @skyrinskyrimskyrim there are a couple of ways of understanding compassion, it's not easy but if done right it's not hard either. you need to know where to start. this is all i'm saying for now

  • i still believe that consciousness is a universal element that has eluded scientist just like dark matter. we know it's there we just can't prove it

  • Very beautiful directed and edited.

    Great message too. Excellent :)

  • my physics teacher who used to hate me, now loves me for introducing you to him...youve made my lessons so much better...so thankyou

  • I definitely just cried

  • This is fucking beautiful

  • Einstein may have said this, but it has none of the clarity or usefulness that is behind the scientific thinking that made him famous. This quote is vague nonsense that, if taken seriously, is fundamentally at odds with Einstein's scientific thinking. If we work to understand what it means to experience oneself as separate from the rest of the world only by a "delusion of consciousness," then we see that we can accept either this or Einstein's scientific thinking, but not both.

  • @LetsThinkClearly I don't see how this quote and Einstein's other work are mutually exclusive. Would you care to expand on this?

  • @LetsThinkClearly 1. the delusion is of self, not of consciousness

    2. so Einstein was schizophrenic then?

  • @Tolstoievsky 1. The delusion asserted is *about* the self, but *of* the consciousness. So, what is asserted is that the experience of a man's self is "...a kind of optical delusion of his conscious."

  • @Tolstoievsky 2. No, I was not claiming that Einstein was schizophrenic. Inconsistency in rigor of thinking at different times and on different topics is normal; no one is completely consistent in his degree of rigor across all topics and times. Such inconsistency does not indicate schizophrenia. Also, I can only guess that you are using "schizophrenia" to mean "split personality"--but that is not actually what schizophrenia means.

  • I'm really sad you're straight :C

  • AMAZING!!!

    So true...

  • After reading the description I realize now that this was Einstein's conclusion...so replace "the conclusion you made" with "the conclusion Einstein made" in my last comment

I would like to hear some other's thoughts on this

  • Is this true? I'm not entirely sure...I have never come to this conclusion in my own thoughts, but with that being said I don't think there is any real answer to the question you posed in this video. Since most of us feel the need to interact with nature, and others like us (humans) (I realize they are not TRULY separate), the fact of the matter is that some of us do not and as a result the conclusion you made in this video does not hold true for everyone. Everyone must find their own meaning.

  • Sounds like Albert Einstein believes in some sort of creative designer to say something like that about life. Cool.

  • @ZHX1138 yo albert einstien believed in god

  • @suppperhuman Sweet. That's really cool. I'm going to research this.

  • i thought he said a human being is part of a hole.... called my ass.

  • The song is love like a sunset - Pheonix

  • dis insn't SCIENCE!!!!!!!

  • nature is disgusting

inhospitable, full of insects and disease and lacking the luxuries of consumeristic culture

  • @TheGentleRapist you are part of nature, and so is the air you breathe and the water you drink, if its so disgusting then stop breathing and drinking so we don't have to read your cynical bullshit anymore

  • "We're made of star-stuff."

    -Carl Sagan

  • I know many comments are out there saying the same stuff. But I'll try to be quite different.

I am a type of person that admires nature. Human nature the universe etc. I love talking about the nature and all these cool stuff. BECAUSE THERE COOL!

I have been making youtube videos almost a year now and I only have 47 subs. Could anyone just check out my channel? It would be a honor :D

  • Human beings are members of a whole,

In creation of one essence and soul.

If one member is afflicted with pain,

    Other members uneasy will remain.

If you've no sympathy for human pain,

The name of human you cannot retain!

    Saadi Shirazi

    thumbs up!

  • oh wow, this is just so amazing! Very inspiration Derek!! thanks!

  • i'm so happy i'm subscribed to 1veritasium

  • Veritasium, you are my favourite channel on YouTube. I have yet to embrace the idea of a 'God' or try and figure the concept of a higher power as I've always loved science. But this video shows the two can be synonymous...not necessarily exclusive of each other. Science will perhaps one day explain the meaning of this chaos we easily get ourselves caught up in. Loving your work!!!

  • @WillMundt Really? I didnt see anything like that. How can the two be synonymous when nothing like that was mentioned or inferred? I think you've completely missed the point of the video if you've come to that conclusion.

  • @tubester4567 I guess you're right. I suppose I should have said this video got me thinking about the two concepts being synonymous. It doesn't actually mention god or the creator of the universe. But it does mention how within the universe we are all connected. Just got me thinking of a Ben Lee song which says 'I'm made of atoms, you're made of atoms, we're all in this together'. Just exciting stuff to think of how little we know about this universe, but how strongly it affects us

  • without video editing this video would be so boring...

  • I almost cried! XD

  • @1veritasium Nice one. Do you have a source for the quotation? I knew that Einstein did most of his revolutionary physics 1900-1920, and that during the later 30 years of his life, he acted as more of an ethical and moral figure. I assume that your quotation comes from the later years of Einstein's life.

Thanks for this and your other videos. I think education is crucial for us to respect each other in America, globally, or in Einstein's view, cosmically!

    Nate

  • Beautiful.

  • dat Australia

  • I only wish my ferry went that fast... 1:40

  • simply amazing

  • before watching your videos i didn't know i could understand and discuss physics in english

  • I putted one of my videos in the video response because I literally love these style of videos. :D

  • I recognized bondai beach instantly and i've only been there twice :D i'm quite proud actually xD

  • Sooo good.
