I love it when she said something to the effect of "I neva did birth no babies". I always remembered that from hearing it for the first time when I was young. She had gotten caught in an exaggeration and for me it was a good lesson on being careful not to act like you know something when you didn't. She was so cute and funny when she said it!
Not only did he confuse her scene but he then in turn called her Hattie McDaniel. I think it was nice of her to have a sense of humor about it though. She seems like a very nice lady :-)
This is gorgeous. Thank you for posting. Now go and read Stephen Bourne's wonderful (but somewhat overlooked) biography Butterfly McQueen Remembered (Scarecrow Press, 2008).
@WonderWomanFan4life Thanks for your comments,This was a on the road segment, this interview is uncut. I did this interview in Las Vegas. The show was in New Orleans in the late 80's to the early 90's. I enjoyed talking to Butterfly during and after the interview.
well you look very handsome. i love the suit, tie, GORGEOUS!!! Butterfly seems so sweet. I loved her in that movie Gone with the Wind. I just recently watched it. I never saw the whole movie. I watched on NF like a month ago. Seriously, it was one long film. But Lucky you. I wonder if she is still alive. what a lovely soul.
@marcosvalenca-- This was one of our on the road segment's. I got the call to go to Las Vegas for Anniversary of MGM films That's where i met Butterfly McQueen, she was great to talk, this was shot in the late 80's ,also talk to June Allyson. The other interview's i did with some of the Munckins are lost., for the Wizard of OZ.Butterfly will live for ever in films like Gone with Wind and Cabin in the sky.
It's a shame that she was not given more dignity in this life. I personally found this interview to be demeaning. And for the other man to confuse her with Hattie McDaniel really shows a lack of respect. I mean, how could you confuse the two? But she took life as it came and recognised the limits society put on her as well. She was a smart and gifted comedian (listen to her in her recurring role on the old Jack Benny radio show) and unfortunately, unappreciated.
@blkchk Thanks for viewing and your comments. Before we did the interview, I ask Butterfly what she wanted to talk about. As you pointed out, about Butterfly--on the Jack Benny show, Butterfly had a comic side that side of her came out in this interview This interview was part of our on the road segment, wich was a entertaiment segment. Also we learn her favorite line in the movie, Gone with the wind. This is the unedited clip, mistakes and all

@MrAllen6996 Please, what was Butterfly McQueen doing in Las Vegas? One of those memorabilia conventions? What a terrible way to die she suffered.

No. Sadly, Thelma "Butterfly" McQueen {1911~1995} died in a house fire. She was 84.
