actually "er" is the SCHWA sound ANYWHERE, no matter if it's British, American, Australian or Jamaican English. They're always schwa! The only difference is that in American English when there's an "r" close, the schwa receives another sound together, the "r", but it's still schwa!
words ending in "er" ONLY end in the schwa sound in British english...in fact, its one of the main ways of telling the difference between the two accents.
