Installing programs in Ubuntu 9.10 (and Debian!)

Ok I downloaded a package with the command line, how do I execute it?

@pokebombing - What is your distro?

A) Ubuntu - (*.deb packages) download > double click - Click install - give pass word - and its pretty much done.

B) FROM COMMAND LINE: Navigate to the package directory then enter this:

user$: sudo dpkg -i *package-name*.deb

That will install it.

Let me know which OS you're using.
