No, it's been Simone for the start. But for the last North America tour, Simone couldn't go because she has a pretty serious bacterial infection, & so the band decided to do the tour anyways with Amanda Somerville, who's Simone's vocal coach & is also one of the choir members Epica always uses. She's more a behind the scenes Epica member, but she's still an amazing singer.

Because if you're talking about that then forgive me but you will never listen to her singing like that live. That DVD was SO edited and has so many effects to make her voice sound 'divine' that when I see her singing live it doesn't even sound as the same singer.

Actualy, I do have to say that even though her live performance doesn't match her album sound, none of the videos on Youtube do justice with her live voice. It just resonates differently live than it does on film. It's not as bad as it sounds here, even though she does make mistakes live.

I still think she's very talented.

Actualy... Simone's voice is much "higher". She's a mezzo-soprano, while Amy is a contralto, that can only reach a few mezzo notes.

Amy does have a big falsetto though. During weight of the world, the bridge is this whole siren part with flaring guitars and high vocals she hits a note thats an E 2 octaves and 2 notes above middle C and her lowest is a basic E five notes below C which is normal and even a bit high for some baritones and bases. so she's pretty high, I haven't heard simone's highest or lowest notes yet though so not comparing :) .

Yeah, Amy can hit very low notes pretty nicely for a female singer. & yeah, she can reach those notes on WotW, but Simone hits much higher notes, for example in Chasing the Dragon.

I don't know if Amy actually hits the E two octaves above middle C (In fact, I rather doubt she does which is why I'm going to look up that song in just a moment. :P), but if she does, Simone goes nowhere NEAR that high in chasing the dragon. That E Hippydude777 is talking about is the same note that ends the Phantom of the opera theme song. I think the highest note in CtD is either the G or A below that, so almost a full octave below.

Moreover, I don't like it when a singer drops her voice at the end of a line (take a random Within Temptation song and you'll hear what I mean), and Floor is doing that too much these days as well: I stopped listening to their newest songs. I really hope Simone won't do that too much.

Floor also sings out of tune every now and then (for example, the bonus tracks on the 2003 release of Decipher).

The keys in Beyond Belief are B minor and G# minor. The first notes of 'Fear is taking over me' are G# F# D# (sorry to write them in capitals, it's quite difficult to write notes with flats without capitals).

In Quietus, the general key is C minor. The notes of the beginning are Ab D G C F B C.

You're not deaf, but maybe you should do a better job figuring out the vocal lines.

There are two different systems of determining the notes. One of them has to do with the keys on the piano: the most left c is the c1, the highest is the c7. This system is used in America, for example.

The other makes the central c the c1, the c at the right end of the piano is the c4. The left octaves are named otherwise. That means the c3 in this last system is the c6 in the other.

This g#2 is not in the American terms: it means the second g# above the central C. That means the g#2 here is the g#5 in American terms.

Simone sings a G (g2 American terms) in Safeground to Paradise. Though her voice has a pretty large range for a mezzo-soprano, and she should be able to cope an alto voice in any choir.

I'm not sure whether Simone (with one m :-P) reaches the c6. She has difficulties with the a5 on stage, but that doesn't really make a good point: some singers can actually sing the a5 and have difficulties with pitches from f5 up.

It's easier to sing pitches at the lower end of your range than the other end, because you don't have to force your voice to squeeze the notes.
