Yes, Saddam was an ally to the US during the 1980's after the Iranian hostage crisis. Back then Iran was viewed as the greater threat to US interests (and still may be). An example of Cold War politics (picking the lesser evil). But once Saddam showed his true intentions of aggression, the US withdrew its support.

By his own admission, Clinton did not do enough. However, to say he did nothing is beyond ridiculous. Maybe he was incorrect on pulling aid from Afghanistan, but he certainly did a lot about terrorism in other areas.

Saying that Saddam hadn't fully complied with inspections and that is therefore a threat to us that needs to be invaded are two very different things.
Even if Saddam had the weapons Bush claimed, he knew it would be suicidal to use them on us or give them to terrorists who did, and George Tenet admitted as much to the Senate.
Saddam's neighbors didn't seem to worried about him, we controlled and patrolled his airspace, and he let the inspectors back in.

that's why more than a hundred Democrats in the House and the Senate, who had access to the same intelligence, voted to support removing Saddam Hussein from power. A bipartisan Senate investigation found no evidence of political pressure to change the intelligence community's judgments related to Iraq's weapons programs. We have 10,000 nuclear warheads and have used them before. If Saddam or anyone else launched a nuke at us or gave one to terrorists who did, they know that we might lose a city, but their whole country would be incinerated before the dust cleared here. And we would still have enough left to destroy the world five times over.

Papa Bush and Reagan had no problem with Saddam gassing his own people and invading Iran, and Saddam actually asked what we would do before he invaded Iran AND Kuwait.
A lot of countries violate UN resolutions. Israel has violated a lot and hidden their nuclear weapons program from the world, but I do not advocate invading and killing a million for that.
It's funny that the right only cares about the UN when it helps them steal another country's natural resources.
