the reason the league cares about those comments is because 1) he has made derogotory comments before. and 2) a sloppy seconds comment like that has absolutely NOTHING to do with the game. Bettman has to do something about it, or he is going to have guys walking all over him because whatever they say or do is border line acceptable.

First of all, Avery is not a fighter he acts like a pussy towards real heavy weights. 2nd of all, I never I know what being an agitator in hockey is all about, I grew up watching Theo Fleury play at times. Avery is a guy who takes it too far and doesnt know when to stop. I never disliked fighting at all. Its a part of the game.

well they rely on those three for points, but avery adds an edge that no one else on the rangers really does - maybe orr a little bit and dubinsky more than he used to.
true, avery pissed off his teammates in dallas and in LA, but something just clicks with him in NY, and the rangers benefit greatly from his presence

Well I think he left people not knowing what to do because of his antics. For example, that stupid screen, I think he left the refs dazed and confused trying to figure out what to do. Also, the Rangers now have a new coach, Tom Renney liked him and hes gone now, so this doesnt mean Torterella will like him like Renney did.

those 'dumb antics' are what makes him THAT much more effective in games for a team. he can get under the skin of his opponents and keep em unfocused, he brings a lot of energy to the ice, and on top of that he knows how to play the game and can put a few in the net every now and then.

care to explain how my comments make me look bad? The western conference is far rougher. Teams out here hit more, check tighter, etc. Eastern teams are more finesse, but less grit. Yes Western teams play Eastern teams, but not often enough. My point is Avery is playing for Dallas this year, so he'll be playing more physical games, against teams that wont put up with that stuff like some of the softer eastern conference teams. And I stand by my overall statement. Avery is a disgrace to the game.

haha i know detroit is geographically on the eastside of the states but because there are too many teams on the east coast and too little on the west coast, detroit and chicago and them are actually put in the WESTERN conference in NHL.
