Alvin is the Original but Joe is the better guitarist for sure ! I like them both!!! TYA was great around 1970 and TYA is still great around these days !!! great musicians !
i thought he was a bit young to be alvin, then i thought ,shit hes lookin' not bad for his age.....but that solo, closed my eyes with a few rums under me,wooooooooo
Alvin style was vintage .... Joe has changed the band and helped it to achieve the 2000 sound ..... also he managed to keep alive the band .... so be thankful u ungrateful people ... Also Joe is a top artist and one of the best guitar player of our times .... very very good music in my opinion ...
I've been loving this song for almost forty years now. A very under-appreciated band. Did you know that the album "Cricklewood Green" was named after the herb they had been cooking with?
Gooch isn't so bad. He knows how to play and sing. But it's not Alvin. Without Alvin it will never be TYA. I'm going to see them playling in Poland this summer. Will see how they sound live :)
It may be "ten years after" but unless I see Alvin Lee playing the guitar, then it just isn't Ten Years After. Sorry. [but these guys here are good... just NOT TYA]... if you know what I mean.
This song is one of the best TYA ever recorded, it's more than obvious, that "Sympathy for the Devil" of The Stones was the great inspiration for Alvin Lee to write this masterpiece!! This is a very good rendition but of course, "The Original" with Alvin Lee's TYA remains the best!
I was very impressed with Joe Gooch on this song. I always been a die-hard Alvin Lee/TYA fan and think he's one of the best guitarists in the world, so to fill his shoes is really an impossible task - but Joe does an admirable job. Kudos to him.
If he did use a Gibson then everyone would be complaining that he is trying to copy Alvin, there's just no stop to the complaining. If Fender is his style then play a fender, thats my opinion. He sounds great to me considering the position he is in.
Ive seen this line up of TYA AND Ive seen Alvin Lee and I enjoyed the both. Why not. It gets a bit 'trainspotter' to assume that if a band is not exactly the same as it was 1968 it is no good. Alvin is great, no one says otherwise, especially me, but going to see and enjoy this line up is a great nite out and beteer than stayin in, so lets not get too worked up. Joe is great too good luck to them all.
When two guitarist play the same song, it is quite easy to make a comparison for most people. However, in your mind, for example, if Eric Clapton and a twelve year old both played the song White Room, you would be unable to compare the two.
Every guitarist plays differently, which is good - or music would be pretty boring. Music should be enjoyed, not criticised or rated. It's a form of expression and an art form, not a sport or competition. Is Eric Clapton's version of "Cocaine" a joke because it doesn't sound like JJ Cale's original?
I think Alvin and Joe are both great musicians. You obviously got a bone-on for Alvin as you choose to slander Joe. Your choice, but you don't build someone up by knocking someone else down.
Joe Gooch has been with Ten Years After since 2002. They have been touring extensively for the past 5 years. Alvin Lee continues to make music and performs occasionally independent of Ten Years After. He is presently working on a new CD.
Joe rocks! This is probably my favorite TYA song. Great to see it live. Hopefully they will play it tonight as I am off in a few hours to see them play.
TYA a beaucoup plus à apporter aujourd'hui avec Joe Gooch qu'avec Alvin Lee. Alvin est un dieu de la 6 cordes, sans conteste, mais il ne pourrait plus assurer le show comme le fait Joe.
Joe just keeps getting better and better. Turned out to be an excellent choice to join this legendary band. Go see them live if they are even close to your area.

Possibly, but it would have been kind of boring to just place a turntable on stage and play the Cricklewood Green LP.

TYA with a Strat v. 335??? Gotta go w/ the Gibson. Joe's good, but he ain't Alvin...

I saw Joe today. And he is an awesome guitarist. He plays speedlicks i never have seen before. He is live one of the best guitarists the world has.
