I think this movie is more religious related than of superhero relation. Akira looks like a messiah figure. But I could be wrong, but's that's what i got from the movie. and love the music.
Akira was the first anime I ever knowingly saw and put me off anime for 5 years because of the Tetsuo monster thing at the end which was just too weird. I watched it recently and it is actually really good and made more sense now I'm older.
I was really little when I watched the movie and I remember some giant monster thingy near the end which scared the crap out of me. I think I had nightmares for weeks after it.
Seen Akira? Parts of it. Heard of it? God darn I have, and from the sound of it, its good. But i think its probably over hyped, which will mean my expectantions of it high, and if a I ever do watch it, i will proabaly be dissapointed to some degree, because it is over hyped. You can bite my head of for saying that, but it is my opinion, Over hyping does ruin things.
I agree to an extent...I think by of today's standards akira does seem dated (though like you said some of the stuff churned out of japan today is DIRE)... but it's still good. The fact that it's old doesn't change that! It is and always will be an anime classic (in terms of animation, plot etc) which every fan should watch regardless.
Akira is actually the first anime I am really scared of. I am still scared of it. I really dunno why. I guess the mutation part really scared the sh*t out of me than School days, Higurashi, Elfen Lied, or other gore/psycho animes out there.
@AnGeLiKuS Higurashi scared the shit out of me cause the characters were so damn likable, seeing them snap was just painful, seeing them suffer more so, but it all made sense in season 2... my god. Seasons 1 and 2 are awesome together.
@MrShadowzs It is really that easy to figure out which anime are indeed the best, kinda makes me question the legitimacy of yours top 5 picks. Lol I'm just trying to tease you cause I know you haven't put much thought in it, but this is obviously your top 5 so who am I to question it :P
"To say you have seen it." Thats quite a poor look on the anime community if people only watch, and say its good because of its merit; than it being a good anime, manga whatever.
@brinpol yeah i don't get it whats the problem with this guy normaly his reviews are right on the dot but for some reason he seems to be focusing on extremly petty shit. i think the movie holds up on its own you don't need to read the manga to get whats going on, and if you can't understand whats happening well......sorry thats not the anime's fault it's his.
@emoguys11 I'm guessing it's a general reference to anything. If you gain immense power, a plot point in a lot comics, manga, anime and video games is that it will corrupt you and suddenly your goal is that you should own everything.
Like most anime, the manga was waaaaay better. Also, the first VHS dub was also waaay better than the blu-ray and dvd release. I got my friends into anime with this and fist of the north star.
You watched the good dub! U saw it on DVD! I saw it on blu ray although the animation wad crazy in blu ray like wow big diff when I watched it in japan wen it 1st came out....the dub on blu ray is terrible! Literally no one gives emotion at all!!!!! Those kids the experiments are so bad! Tetsou is prbly the only1 thts terrible but compared to eveey1 else is good. The mouths don't match up
Can some one explain the ending to me please...?

The movie, actually does answer all its own questions and does a great job telling its story... Did you not even pay attention?

Best anime ever? Why that's easy
1. Clannad AS
2. Madoka Magica
3. Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
4. Baccano
5. Higurashi

I dunno, I think the animation holds up pretty well today. And I got the story when I watched it without knowing anything about the manga.
