  • I think the lancer shouldent have stopping power it will make the game more fluid

  • Stopping power removed = shotgun rushing all day. I rather feel assured that I am slowing down a charging rhino instead of hoping to down it. Wallbouncing pros will definitely benefit from that.

  • Hey Arctic, in regard to your recent wallbouncing endeavors, I'm wondering if you've seen PharNico's (Nicodemusx0) gnasher/wallbouncing montage. I stumbled across it one day and was absolutely blown away by the sheer amount of speed and control he has over his bounces. I felt that I was a fairly proficient player in Gears, and afterwards I felt that the bar in skill has been raised. If you've watched it, I'd like to hear your thoughts. If not, then please give it a look!

  • @tdofredo Skyllus was equally amazed, and has since then switched his scheme to Alternate, because of that video. Skyllus commented on it to let him know it was because of him.

  • i think a majority of the community is upset (including myself) feel that if your going to remove it take it away from all rifles.

  • I like stopping power because it's there to punish people for making a dumb move. However I do believe 100% that it should be removed from competitive play so an on off switch would be nice. I think the balance they have now for public is good.

  • Epic needs to tell people in the main menu of the game about changes like this.

  • arctic: I use the alternate control scheme and often when I try to bounce to a wall that I am DEFINITELY within range of, nothing happens. does your camera have to be aiming at the wall to bounce to it? cause from what I see of your gameplay, it doesn't, but when I play gears, something seems seriously wrong. is it just cause I don't have an onza? it gets me killed a lot because I try to do an initial bounce but my character does nothing and I'm a sitting duck. any inuput you might have?

  • @oxenpoxen You do need to be aiming at the wall to bounce to it.

  • @MrShyguy0 @oxenpoxen objection ! at some situations you don't need to be aiming at the wall you want to bounce to. example: you're in a corridor (the walls are relatively close to you) and you're getting shot. WHILE aiming at the guy and shooting him, you can hold your left stick to the wall you want to bounce to and just press the A, but look it just works when you are "close" to the wall, if you're kinda far, you'll just roll. for a visual proof, search it on arctic's videos

  • A rare team change from you guys. You along with Cali, Phobos, and Skyllus have been together for about 2 years I think if I'm not mistaken. Still, picking up Cream is killer mover. :) Can't wait to see how you guys will do in any upcoming Gears event. BTW, they should remove it from Retro permanently. That gun is powerful enough at close range.

  • See i could care less about stoping power, i use the hammerburst and retro and i havent seen a real noticable change, i still drop guys like its my job at a distance with the hammerburst and i still use the retro to set up my gnasher kills when needed I could care less if anything it evens the playing field if you use the lancer, i use retro for certain situation and maps and hammerburst for certain situations and maps so idk i kinda like it

  • I don't care too much about the Retro but thank you Epic for nerfing the Hammy fuck this is Gears not CoD now these HB scrubs gotta grow some balls and get some CQC skill with the Gnasher instead of sitting back all damn game

  • well the thing is that because of the sawed off the whole game was ruined because stopping power has to be there for it otherwise even with its range nerfs and everything it will just dominate everyone

  • As a long time Retro user, the lack of stopping power is incredibly annoying. There's almost no point to using it over the Lancer anymore, as any Gnasher/SO user can just rush before they get downed now. It's obvious they're trying to appease the Gnasher users by nerfing anything that can counter it, but this is just getting stupid now.

  • @MrBeauJango And the Gnasher gibs you instantly in its effective range. How is that any different? The entire point of the Retro was to be the close-to-mid range rifle. Without stopping power, it loses its edge in its own range category. There's no reason to use it over the Lancer, since an active Lancer will down almost as fast, AND slow their rush. This would be like making the Gnasher unable to gib, and unable to down in one shot. It would completely destroy the point of the gun.

  • @rchrdguerra4 Seeing as it's supposed to be a CQC rifle, I'm frustrated that they decide to ruin what it's good at. If it has no stopping power, it either needs to be more accurate, which would horrible balance-wise, or it needs to do more damage to compensate. I'd also like to add that the only reason they removed its stopping power was because Gnasher "babies" were "sad" that they couldn't rush blindly through a hail of bullets and win anymore.

  • @Killer7Samurai gnahser babies that couldnt rush blindly through hail of bullets.....for one to use a gnasher it requires skilll,,,yu can use a gnasher in many different scenarios,,while a retro lancer the only thing you really must know how to do is aim down properly so yu can reduce the recoil an get a kill...retro lancers does not require skill what so ever,,even someone new to the game can use it..generally scrubs if yu want a tip on how to stop people with a gnasher learn how to be better

  • @WhiteSwaggg when getting shot with an assault rifle/rapid fire weapon, stopping power is the thing that slows you down.

  • Actually now someone can run straight at me in the open (from a relative short distance) with a shotgun while I'm defending the ring or whatever and using the Hammerburst, and kill me. That wouldn't happen with stopping power. Not a big deal that it was removed, but I don't think that should happen.I don't think removing stopping power entirely is good idea (maybe reduce/tweak it). Even cliffyB said SP was gonna stay.

    Just my opinion.

    I don't use the retro so can't say anything about that gun.

  • I mostly use the Hammerburst and I honestly didn't even notice. I agree that it would be interesting to see how much gameplay changed with the Lancer stopping power removed too. I think it would really increase movement, especially against teams in TDM that only use lancers :/

  • Leave SP in, without it, ShotgunFeast! I agree with you about on/off switch for ppl that want it. My shotgun skills(firing from the hip) are not great, if not average, so I tend to favour the rifles.

  • I feel and see the difference in the Hammer Burst and Retro with no Stopping Power. The guns all most feel broking.There still strong but takes more perfect Aiming to kill someone with them. I think is should be reduce and maybe not turned off all together. I'm glad there letting us try it out anyway.

  • is this a joke? The lancer being the Most OP in my opinion..,the clip is practically unlimited the active is ridiculously OP and then the stopping power? Id really have NO prob with it if it werent for the stopping on the lancer. and i agree..the hammerburst didnt have much SP unless u were rushing them head on...which would be your fault. and the retro seemed needed to me ...

  • @Hype3rshadow With the hb boost in damage + it's amazing ar until the update it was the best gun in the game imo

  • @SwagSoSickRick The HB active reload only makes the down 1 shot less, from 8 to 7.

    Also it didn't receive any boost in damage, it's just their long-range damage reduction penalties were removed, which means you do the same damage at all distances (that's how it should be for a long range weapon).

    Get your facts straight.

  • I think the retro should have Stopping power only with active. hammerburst is perfect now. and take it away from the lancer.

  • I would like to see the lancer reduced a little. 60 bullets +plus HS bonus + Active bonus is a tad overpowered. maybe a 15% overall reduction.

  • my hammy never seemed to have stopping power. Everyone with a sawed off or gnasher that charged me seemed to be unafected by my shots always

  • I use the lancer but the lancer is OP if you think about it. It has a crazy clip, strong active, headshot multiplier and it keeps stopping power.

  • i feel lk they should just take out SP from all of the rifles because i usually play alpha anyway and gears has always been about the shotgun and thats what i love. the rifles are strong without SP anyway.

  • Stopping power being gone didn't really effect how many deaths/kills I got from or by rifles. What did happen is I was no longer yelling "bullshit" when someone shot me down with the hammy. It's really frustrating to be trying to evade and not being able to go anywhere, but without stopping power you know they deserved the kill.

  • Using a normal controlle type, the wallbouncing is more fast.

  • dont mess with the stopping power for the lancer. the guy is weak as hell without an active already, and w/o SP, its no good as a support weapon

  • So I switched back to "Regular" control scheme to see if you could grab walls further away....

    And I think this is a misconception... Maybe you should test that theory.... but from my 2 min test... you grab walls at the exact same distance and with alternate you do nothing where you would roll with the regular.

  • I can see why having stopping power removed from competitive stand point could be viable, but I kind of like stopping power across the board for all the rifles. It just makes sense if someone is getting shot that they wouldn't be able to move as quick. I suppose that line of thinking is just from being accustomed to playing with SP for so long. It would be interesting to see how a zero stopping power play list would turn out.

  • Yeah dissappointed they took SP out of the retro. It was what I would switch two on certain maps if the Sawed-off was killing me a lot. Now that counter to the Sawed-off doesn't really work the same. Overall I like the idea of taking out SP though (like with all rifles). It would allow for greater mobility and more exciting gnasher gameplay I think.

  • As a Hammerburst user I don't care if there is no stopping power cause Hammerburst is meant to be a long range weapon and that is how I use it. Now the Retro, I barely use it cause I am really bad with it, but I think it should keep the stopping power, the range is pretty short for a rifle and close quarters should be Retro's specialty.

  • retro never needed to be in the game so i'm glad they took out stopping power, the hammerburst down's in like 7 bullets so there is no need for stopping power. Now if they remove the stopping power on the lancer and tone down the gnashers range this game could truly be the best game i have ever played.

I am trying to get Onyx for my retro and they have made that gun so much worse than it used to be...This multiplayer is not the same as it was months ago...sometimes too much change is not a good thing. ALOT of people I used to play with quit because this is not the same game it was in September...and I agrre with their complaints...Keep up the good work!

  • I dont know about you, but I'm getting a lot of sawed-offs users in Team Deathmatch lately... I know you mostly played ranked, but is it just the quick match thats possibly causing this?

  • I would like to see the stopping power on the rifles stay as they were. There have been times when it has saved many of my lives while being rushed.

  • This explains a lot. I didn't know that Stopping Power was removed but I felt it lastnight. Thought my connection was funny as gnasher rushers were just waltzing through my retro fire. I don't mind it just would have been nice for some announcement or something so I could have atleast adjusted my play.

  • stopping power for the hammy and retro are not needed. however for the lancer I can see why they have it. some people just don't use the shottys that much. also with the lancer in gears 3 I actually have a reason to use it instead of running always with my gnasher.

  • @kyle455645 the guns are smaller on clayton carmine/recruit because he is a bigger person in the virtual world if you took a look at augustus cole he has the same problem aswell and he is a musculer character aswell as the two carmines

  • Honestly alternate is easier in my opinion. A lot of times playing on default controls, i made a lot of mistakes caus of every command being on A but alternate eased it up by moving roadie run and evade to X. People need to stop complaining about something thats better then the old one

  • Stopping power needs to stay. I can understand the hammy losing it by nature of its supposed to be a long range, single shot weapon on top of the fact that it's already so powerful, but the gameplay mechanic itself aids to add another layer of strategy to the game that I would hate to see removed. I think the power level of the rifles are just about perfect. Dont take us back to a shotguns only game.

  • @ZombieFlanders4073 Well said, I completely agree. People already resort to Gnasher combat so often in the game as is. I like having stopping power on all the rifles. Even if I get slapped by it. I shouldn't have been exposed.

  • I'm a fan of stopping power removed from both HB and Retro - they're remarkably powerful guns. The non-active Lancer is at a serious disadvantage compared to them. Even with an active, it's still between the two. So, I'm not a fan of taking away the stopping power entirely. That said, the active Lancer might be better balanced without the boost to SP.

  • The only problem I see is sawed-off shotguns wont be stopped as easily by rifles anymore. But it is what it is. And its amazing how you never really run into them in your videos. I'm always in a match with at least 1 sawed-off shotgun user and they all play the same: Hide around a corner and wait for someone to come by.

  • Is the goal of these patches in Gears 3 to bring gears back to Gears 1? Or maybe a gears 1 / gears 3 hybrid. The only problem i foresee with possibly removing stopping power from the game completely would be a little gun called the sawed off... i can only imagine the frustration of starting to lancer down a sawed-off user only to have him bum-rush the shit out of me and blow me away.

  • To me, It's not so much the fact that SP is gone from the Hammy / Retro, its now the gap between the Lancer and the other two guns (again) that annoys me.

    The reason the Hammy was buffed in the first place was that the Lancer completely outclassed it and it's starting to look like things might go that way again now. I just dont see enough reason to use the Hammy over the Lancer apart from the Onxy medal.

  • @arCtiCvBi I'm a hammerbust user and I think that if they remove the stopping power on those 2 rifles they should have done it to all, the lancer is probably the most powerful of all n with head modifier it ain't fair if they gonna level the playing field they should do it right.

  • @Josez1212 True, and they should re-add the head multiplier to the hammy or remove it from the lancer. Hammy would be superior in every regard IMO if it had SP and a head multiplier.

  • losing stopping power on the hammy and retro is a dick move, the retro is literally useless now. the whole point of it was for newer players to compete at close range, now it just wont. they nerfed it once, and now theyre doing it again so its just way underpowered now. they should lower the recoil now if theyre going to do this

  • I agree that the lancer does need some kind of nerf to compensate, but it makes me sick to see all the people who think that now the HB is 'weak' or 'useless', and are on a high horse because it is not an automatic rifle, so they believe it is much higher skilled. Newsflash: I use the HB in TDM and absolutely rape with it, more-so than I do with the lancer in TDM. I'm not particularly skilled with it, it's easy to fire it fast and keep your aim near a person. HB is still insanely strong.

  • I think stopping power isn't needed for how powerful rifles are in gears 3. Was needed in gears 2 (and 1 but wasn't in so we saw what happened with gnashers of war) but now you can easily down someone from decent distances and if they're too close you should *have* to change to shottie rather than have the rifles as they are. Right now it's far to easy to get good scores using lancer at all ranges

  • Did you get absolutely crushed the first week while using the alternate control scheme? Cuz that's how long I tried it for and I wasn't getting the hang of it.

  • @HarbingerMonkey no I believe I showed gameplay from my first couple weeks using it. My movement was sloppier but I could still slay people fairly easy.

  • i would definitely like to see how Gears 3 plays with no stopping power for any guns...considering that all the rifles are rediculously powerful even without stopping power, I think it could work quite well.

  • @arCtiCvBi From the spectators point of view, they play with Stopping Power in ranked, but watch competitive gameplay and see no stopping power. Do you think the casual spectator would look down upon "MLG" players because they use different settings? I just don't see Epic making the no SP on lancer change gamewide, they'd probably only create an option or put it in Alpha.

  • @RobZGod to be honest i don't think they would notice too much so no I can't see it hurting the community if it were Alpha only. You have to remember some players don't even know what SP is or does and there are a number of people that don't even realize it's gone from the HB and Retro

  • @stefanarak Well yeah, but if your a good player, you can overcome that. What i feel is that they (Epic games) want ppl to go to play gears, but at the same time, they are making it more difficult so that said new people come and play. So now, u got in one hand awesome veterans and in the other u got rookies (myself included). These veterans will destroy us cus we are without experience. The Lancer is all we got, and we still get turned on...So its gonna suck to a whole new level.. :(

  • @AzzanHD I'd say it's a toss up between what annoys me more in the Lancer or HB. The HB needs a fire rate cap and the Lancer needs a nerf in dmg or less in the magazine.

  • The fair thing would have been to remove it from all the ARs but it's yet another nerf for the hammerburst and nothing still has been done about the ridiculousness of the Lancer. They consistently nerf things that are difficult to use and make the easy stuff easier. Doesn't really matter though. I don't expect much from Gears 3. I play it maybe once a month. It's a real shame to especially since I put in over 100 days in Gears 2. Gears 3 could've been a masterpiece

Personally im tired of people relying solely on their rifles for their close range battles when im trying to battle them with my gnasher. im not saying that you cant kill a rifle user with your gnasher, i just feel it makes more entertaining gameplay when its gnasher on gnasher.

  • Stopping power is fucking stupid and should be completely removed. All the rifles should receive a damage nerf as well, but the retro and hammy should get the biggest reduction in damage. Even after all that the rifles will still remain very powerful and play an important role to any good team. Get beasted, nubs!

  • i did notice yesterday when someone was charging me that my hb wasnt stopping them but it was a really lag game so i thought maybe it was the lag. the gun they need to remove it from is the lancer, i fuckin hate that gun more than the sawed off.
