  • OMG that's INSANE!

  • What was that first max patch you were using??

  • This is pretty amazing - very well done. Any chance you'll share any of these templates for Max 4 Live?

  • I'm LA currently, soon to be SF

  • what city are you in?

  • where do you live?

  • Hey there, was thinking of purchasing 2010 model of macbook pro for bedroom production, do you happen to know whether the 13.3 inch base model will comfortably run ableton and a few instances of massive and z3ta+? thanks :)

  • god... i got to learn to play in "live" this is sick :))

  • Good Stuff! Still need to get Max for Sho!

  • Hey, just wanted to let everyone know I've left Open Labs and started a new company called Music Computing. Check out the new gear at Music Computing or click the link below for videos. - Thanks, Victor Wong

  • i really really want that lucifer inspired max patch!

    any chance of sharing? O.o

maybe someone could make a max4live version out of your work?

  • are the buttons hot? or why is it that you pull your finger away so fast just after pushing them?

  • @luisonly I was just about to write the same thing... lol. Seems to be the new hipp thing

  • @luisonly i think thats the equivalent of stick twirling for drummers or what not. just looks cool. though, it looks incredibly stupid to me

  • Dude! That is so awesome! I just ordered an APC40, and you really know how to use that thing. Looking forward to playing around with it myself.

  • really cool!!! :)

  • Awsome man how much time do you take to do this??

  • @MrBizarro9000

Well the programming of the APC I recall taking 18 hours. The other stuff is old or updated code of features I had in older setups and that material ... many many more hours. I'd say a good max person could get all the the stuff in the video minus the beat indexer in about 20 hours.

  • that beat that starts at 2:45 til the end is raw as fuck, lemme get some of that :D

  • Howd you make the filters jump back?

  • the worst thing in this video is the apple mouse...damn, i put mine away and got me a logitech mouse...much better

  • super basic, but still amazing. 5 stars.

  • @Reid52 super basic? you sir... are pretentious.

  • @paralelSun did you even read the 2nd half of my comment?

i wasn't even commenting on his skills, i meant the song didn't vary greatly although he did a great job mixing it

  • You fuckin' rule.

  • I am amazed. Any help please respond I love how u use apc with live. I don't own max for live and Dont get the concept any advice?

  • Did you make the Max pluggin yourself? If so is there a way you can zip it to me. I really like having the monome like feature with the normal clips. Thanks, genius work...

  • amazing... you are very talented.. this is very inspiring

  • Psst: Check your band link on your myspace page.

  • I thought max for live wasnt released yet

  • if its customizable then i want one.. is max for live a tool for reorganizing parameters and assigning controls?? im confused, your using this in a complet differnt way than other users, pls explain

    thanks in advance

  • yeaa its customizable; all the faders and knobs can be reassigned. check out a video by Stray411 (i think, something like that) using the APC. he hella customized the thing--even added a scroll function. evidently, theres even software out there to make this thing run like a monome. this guy does use the APC really unusually, but given the unit's capabilities, its not really surprising.

  • very nice

  • yeah man! smart stuff ...

  • Comment removed

  • does the apc40 come with the ableton live full or a LE version?

  • any answer on this? i dont want to drop the cash if i have to end up paying for ableton also.

  • i guarantee it only comes with LE. guarantee it. you still gotta buy REAL ableton if you wanna get down

  • thanks! (: i have the 7 version full so...i guess i'll have to map it with it...but wtf i'll buy the 8 version! thanks.

  • if you have the full version of 7 then all you need to do is down load the latest version which is 7.16 and it will map the apc40 for you.

  • How long with just messing around would it take to figure this controller out pretty well and mix in live drums if lets say I was the drummer.. Not looping my drums, just playing along for live shows.

  • good question anyone got an answer on this

  • 1 question dude, how do u cue ur tunes thru ur headphones?

  • omg!! :-)

    Great Video and Performance!!

    I have Live8 already. And, I want to know. . .

How much will be the load for the computer of "Max for Live"?

To tell the truth, I am at a loss which new Mocbook Pro I will buy.

13.3inch; very portable but low cpu performance or

15.4inch; high cpu performance but a little large for me.

Of course, you use just a beta version, right? I know.

If possible, For just a reference, please tell me.

  • the 13 inch does not have "low cpu performance." Its 2.26 GHz chip should be plenty to run Live and Max without trouble. Just make sure you have enough RAM, go for 4G if possible (it's only $100 more). If you're ok with the screen real estate go for the smaller one; it's what I would get if I were buying one today!

  • thank u so much!

i'm very glad to know that.

i'm looking forward to "Max for Live"

  • Dependent on what U program. In general though since it's not runtime code, that is to say un-compiled, the same synth u might find as a vst that runs at 2% will run around 10% in Max. For control stuff though, which is most of what I'm doing, that will be very cheap. (By control I mean midi and not audio manipulation)

  • Another question...

Can i have one for free?

I'll let you have a go on my bmx!

  • 僕はMax/MSPの使い方まったくわからないですが、、AKAI APC-40のすごい使い方をしりました^^

    日本語でコメントしてごめんね。

  • AKAIAPC40 COM

  • Can this be used with max alone (without Ableton)?

  • Yes of course. Its just midi

  • getting one of these looks like how Live was intended to be used all along

  • would it be possible to create patches like these with pd?

  • Yes

  • got mine 2 day luv it = )

  • how did you get one already?

  • I work at Akai :)

  • i hate you for that :D can i dj with this too?

  • Yes of course. Live is great for DJ'ing as you can concentrate more on real time composing and rearranging and not just beatsyncing. The APC gives fast access to those controls which you would use to change up the music and remix it live. See my Acid and Bass musical collaborator DJ with it in his video "APC40 in action" in the related videos along the right.

  • Looks like i may grab one tonight!!

  • ...

    Really cool!

    Bless!

    ...

  • when is max for live coming out? i know you have to have live for it to work, but do you have to buy max as well or is m4l used instead of max

  • i dont think for a while at least :( pity really ...silly thing it might cost as much as the apc....i might wait for a while till the user base is larger as im better at improving ideas than creating from sctratch anyway :)

  • Awesome!

  • Top work fella, you just convinced me to save the pennies for an APC40 and MFL :-)

  • mind blown

  • wow. that is was really cool. nice tracks too. somebody sign him already.

  • This is the most awesome APC40 I ever seen ! I hope you find a label soon, you're a genius man !

  • Hot damn this is an awesome video.

    (ps first :)
