Hey there, was thinking of purchasing 2010 model of macbook pro for bedroom production, do you happen to know whether the 13.3 inch base model will comfortably run ableton and a few instances of massive and z3ta+? thanks :)
Hey, just wanted to let everyone know I've left Open Labs and started a new company called Music Computing. Check out the new gear at Music Computing or click the link below for videos. - Thanks, Victor Wong
Well the programming of the APC I recall taking 18 hours. The other stuff is old or updated code of features I had in older setups and that material ... many many more hours. I'd say a good max person could get all the the stuff in the video minus the beat indexer in about 20 hours.
Did you make the Max pluggin yourself? If so is there a way you can zip it to me. I really like having the monome like feature with the normal clips. Thanks, genius work...
if its customizable then i want one.. is max for live a tool for reorganizing parameters and assigning controls?? im confused, your using this in a complet differnt way than other users, pls explain
yeaa its customizable; all the faders and knobs can be reassigned. check out a video by Stray411 (i think, something like that) using the APC. he hella customized the thing--even added a scroll function. evidently, theres even software out there to make this thing run like a monome. this guy does use the APC really unusually, but given the unit's capabilities, its not really surprising.
How long with just messing around would it take to figure this controller out pretty well and mix in live drums if lets say I was the drummer.. Not looping my drums, just playing along for live shows.
the 13 inch does not have "low cpu performance." Its 2.26 GHz chip should be plenty to run Live and Max without trouble. Just make sure you have enough RAM, go for 4G if possible (it's only $100 more). If you're ok with the screen real estate go for the smaller one; it's what I would get if I were buying one today!
Dependent on what U program. In general though since it's not runtime code, that is to say un-compiled, the same synth u might find as a vst that runs at 2% will run around 10% in Max. For control stuff though, which is most of what I'm doing, that will be very cheap. (By control I mean midi and not audio manipulation)
Yes of course. Live is great for DJ'ing as you can concentrate more on real time composing and rearranging and not just beatsyncing. The APC gives fast access to those controls which you would use to change up the music and remix it live. See my Acid and Bass musical collaborator DJ with it in his video "APC40 in action" in the related videos along the right.
i dont think for a while at least :( pity really ...silly thing it might cost as much as the apc....i might wait for a while till the user base is larger as im better at improving ideas than creating from sctratch anyway :)
OMG that's INSANE!

does the apc40 come with the ableton live full or a LE version?
esperasoesperas123 2 years ago 2
any answer on this? i dont want to drop the cash if i have to end up paying for ableton also.
elliot1338 2 years ago
i guarantee it only comes with LE. guarantee it. you still gotta buy REAL ableton if you wanna get down
idriinkP 2 years ago
thanks! (: i have the 7 version full so...i guess i'll have to map it with it...but wtf i'll buy the 8 version! thanks.
esperasoesperas123 2 years ago
if you have the full version of 7 then all you need to do is down load the latest version which is 7.16 and it will map the apc40 for you.

Great Video and Performance!!
I have Live8 already. And, I want to know. . .
How much will be the load for the computer of "Max for Live"?
To tell the truth, I am at a loss which new Mocbook Pro I will buy.
13.3inch; very portable but low cpu performance or
15.4inch; high cpu performance but a little large for me.
Of course, you use just a beta version, right? I know.
If possible, For just a reference, please tell me.
