All this information you're sharing is absolutely frightening, but very true for sure. I thought we were going through some kind of severe musical crisis in this decade pointing talent and creativity as the cause, but your analysis has given me other answers.

One other thing is live performance. I wouldn't know, but I've heard that people don't have much of a chance with getting a record deal unless they have a good talent for live performance too.
Live performance is certainly important because it is the one form of music that can't be copied and shared for free. If you want to see it live, you have got to pay :)
