Lets think about South Africa again. Do the women there dress like sluts? No. Not all of them or not enough to justify the stats. I know this from personal experience. It's all about power. My dad used to deliver alcohol to Shabeens (Illegal Bars). There the atitude is prettymuch "If you want a woman, you take her" in that culture a man's penis is considered more important than his brain or heart and thus to deny it is a grave insult which also leads to both rape and murder.
So you want to draw attention to the fact that rape isn't caused by the way people are dressed...by dressing like sluts. You've proven nothing. It does nothing to address the root causes of rape. It's a distraction, a sideshow, meaningless, counterproductive. That's using your own logic, too.
@jlassie If you'd actually looked into the effects that the slut walk has had, you'd know that it's changed many people's attitudes towards the causes of rape and has served as an informative movement that draws attention to the idea that your clothes do not affect your chances for being raped. Unless you can show how this movement has done nothing, you can fuck off, asshole.
I just want to say that it really is unfortunate what happened to your family member, the slutty dress fallacy that you addressed needs to end. It's sad that in the show "All in the Family" in the 1970's they knew it wasn't true but in today's society some people still think it. In the show Gloria says "Rape isn't about sex, it's about power." It was a very enlightening show that everyone should watch and I think you would enjoy it as it is still controversial today.
I didn't intend to upset you to the point of tears, I honestly didn't. I agree that no woman, or man for that matter, asks to be raped. That is a given. With that said, I still stand by my beliefs that women should have the sense to not draw negative attention to themselves. I'll argue my position with any Ivy league pundit all day.
@DPL101 If by "Ivy League pundit," you are referring to the evidence I used to support my argument which you can find in the link in the description box, then you are in denial of reality. Clothing may draw "negative attention" from bigots and prudes, but it DOES NOT CAUSE RAPE. The Yale University psychology department proves it.
@DPL101 Oh, and also -- YOU are not what made me cry. I thought I made it very clear that my struggle with a family member's RAPE made me cry. It is not only arrogant for you to say something like that (as if YOU would ever be able to get a tear out of me), but incredibly disrespectful. You are skating on very thin ice here, pal. Watch it if you don't want to get blocked.
@DPL101 Explain how I don't get it. Where did you get the idea that I was crying in this video because of anything *you* said or did? And you still haven't responded to the psychological evidence I provided that conflicts with your claim.
... and he decides he's just desperate enough to do it.
Maybe though that is hatred in of itself. Hatred for not being able to get a woman to consent.
There is also reason for men to have caution to pause when a woman claims rape. It's not like DNA evidence hasn't shown some women to have lied about rape claims in the past and being labeled a sex offender is a pretty large cross to bear especially if it is to be borne unjustly.
So when you say there is something psychologically wrong with rapists, is it really that or is it that or are men taught not to rape? This has at least been a question I've heard feminists bring up once or twice.
I also don't see why rape can't be a product of lust either. A guy who has never been with a woman, his advances always turned down due to lack of social skills and finesse and finally his frustration turns to one night he sees a girl walking home down... (cont.)
I agree with a lot of what you say, but I think the video was drawn out for the express purpose of being just a tad over dramatic, just my opinion.
That said, I've always thought rape was part of human biology as in the sense that in our primitive history, the only thing natural selection selected for was procreation of the species, and if rape offered viable offspring at least some of the time, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to think that rape is written in our DNA to an extent. (cont.)
@Bluedragon094 If it was too emotional for you, I'm sorry. But this subject IS emotional for me. I wasn't trying to be dramatic just for the hell of it. I tend to respond dramatically to subjects that have affected me deeply. Just sayin'. Other than that, you make valid points. In regard to whether or not rape is "natural" for some men, I don't think so. A study showed that men who are aroused no longer feel sexually aroused after watching a violent rape scene in a movie.
As for men no longer being sexually aroused during violent rape scenes, I'm not sure if I believe the study, but I very well may be wrong. After all, it's not like I've actually raped someone nor do I have the desire to.
Though, I'll say this much, when I was going through puberty, there was something darkly arousing about more taboo interests, if you catch my drift, but nothing I'd actually act out. That's just me being honest though.
@tom181071 This video WAS edited. And if your attention span is that short and I'm speaking too slowly for you, I don't know how you interact positively with regular people in your every day life.
To say that if women would dress up more modestly to prevent rape, or when women dress provocatively it attracts and "welcomes" rapist is beyond ignorant to say. You are absolutely right that most Americans are ignorant to the motivation behind rapist. Many people need to understand that rape happens because the PREDATOR wants to hurt their victim, not just have sex. Again, this is another negative result of America's War on Sex.
I also think you are right that many people have a misconception of what slut walks are. I first want to say that European society has a more developed outlook on sexuality because they are more educated in sexuality. In America, sexuality is kind of looked at as some kind of deviance to look into, and this War on Sex in America kind of caused this ignorant view on sex. The sad consequence is that people (usually women) who dress "provocatively" are kind of looked down upon unjustly.
You couldn't be any more right when you made the statement about rapists. First off one of my best friends was sexually assaulted by a neo-nazi when she was a teenager. She says he did it for the sake of malice and that he choose her because she was an easy target during that time. The worst part was that people including her own mother claimed that it was her fault and she "wasn't really rape" as much as "she just wants attention".
I agree with you and am going to share this video. I think you missed two motivating factors, traditional male ego and entitlement. Still there are a handful of scenarios under which I think dressing provocatively could contribute to rape. If a man associates sluttiness with sexual entitlement or has disdain for sexual immodesty or thinks that a woman's provocative dress either makes her less credible to make a case against him, or less likely to report a crime.
The effect you chose seems to go beyond just black and white and replicate the effect of reconstituted film. That is, old film stock that was physically broken apart and then put back together for the purpose or preservation.
I don't know if you meant it that way or not, but it's a great metaphor for a person who survived sexual assault. Their lives can be put back together, but the points where the broken pieces were reassembled still show.
@Wes964 You're right. The effect feels silent movie-ish, but it didn't occur to me to call it something besides what it seems to be color-wise. Eh. *shrug.*
I was indeed conscious of the relation that the effect has to the subject matter. Was hoping someone would catch that. :) As you probably gathered, this subject is very dear to my heart.
@SickMouth Beige, orange and brown for a start. As an someone who regularly uses Sepia style inks and Black henna style inks. You are ignorant of what sepia means, don't get angry with those that correct that ignorance.
Your comment makes you look like an 'angry asshole'.
Not having a go. You just seem to have made a harsh judgement here.
And a demonstrably false one at that.
But hey you still make great vids, mostly, so who cares?
@Christopholaes When someone's comment only consists of a correction of some semantic aspect of my video, and then does not give any other type of feedback regarding what I said and the ideas I was trying to present, which was the entire PURPOSE of the video, I think it's natural to get the impression that they are just being a smartass. If that was not your intention, then I apologize.
@SickMouth No, wasn't my intention at all. And I understand why you may have had a bit of a go at the previous commenter. I apologise if I was blunt. In my nature.
Also, I like your vids generally, and have not much to say about the slut walks. I don't think it's necessarily the 'best' way to express their message. Yet, I do understand the logic behind it. I also think people are free to express their ideology however they chose (without harming others). Just don't always expect understanding.
@Christopholaes I never SAID they shouldn't be allowed to express themselves! I simply expressed MYSELF by stating my irritation with the ignorance. I also never said that I expect everyone to understand...I don't know where you're getting those ideas from.
Honestly I do like your vids generally, and respect your opinion. :)
Your more thoughtful than most on many topics, especially on some of the gender equality issues. Not to mention more realistic about the realities of how the 'war' is being waged.

@bamboo4tameshigiri Lol, I know nothing about webcam effects or film. But I liked the "silent movie" effect, and I also didn't want anyone to know how horrible I look when I'm crying, lol. :P
@SickMouth I can understand, and I seriously envy you about your ability to travel to Europe. I'm seriously considering expatriation from the US. This uptight right wing fascist country I honestly can't stand anymore. There's more opportunity there, the people are more relaxed, not so puritanical, the education is much less expensive or FREE, the health care is mostly free, etc. etc. Seriously. I'm ashamed to be a US citizen at this point... And I agree with all the points you're making.
@bamboo4tameshigiri Europe does have a few downsides. For being so liberal about clothing, I find it odd that a good portion of people in Europe can be just as homophobic and racist. I suppose it's that way all around the world, though -- every continent (except maybe Australia) seems to have issues with hostility towards immigrants and LGBT's. I think it's just a human being/ignorance/religious thing. But the absence of the religious nut-job influence over there is pretty nice!
@bamboo4tameshigiri yeah, i totally love how it looks kind of like a silent movie effect with the popping sound effects and the skipping. very nice, sickmouth.

Yeah I agree it's about assault not arousal, of course while you can't protect yourself at all times, being proactive about limiting your chances to be assaulted isn't a bad Idea no matter what you wear.
It's more about running, fighting or camouflage and not appearing vulnerable than slut shaming ...
@Curas1 sadly, we've had to be reduced to being encouraged to "watch" what we do or "limit" our actions to protect ourselves but it is really sad that we have to do that. we shouldn't have to limit our chances of being attacked or raped by another person. what should be encouraged is that people shouldn't rape, period.
