obviously if a beginner is going to get into marine, they are going to do there research on how involved you would have to be before u start a marine aquarium
he is terrible, please do not listen to most of his advice (for your sakes), its either to promote him, old methods, etc ive watched a few of these videos now really not good.
@MOEtivation, a good amount would be 1 that pumps around 1000 gallons an hour. you could combine smaller ones to make it. Any thing a bit lower or higher would also work tho.
so i am a moron for wanting a reef tank one day just because i stoped and watched this vdio and i would not need you to know how hard it is stupid comment.
i understand you %100 you said "why you are a moron for wanting one" he has one right there if he has one why would he want one you cant want what you have
"why you [the viewer] are a moron for wanting one". It was a change in point of view. My objection is that this guy is telling viewers that it's too hard to make a reef tank when in fact it just requires some research and planning. To then title your video "How to Set Up Aquariums" and offer no information is stupid.
your so right, ive been into reef tanks for many years and learned on my own ,reading reef books.ive had more reef tanks than i can count.if you learn it for yourself then you wont have to depend on anyone.
I was going to say the same thing. Don't show off how 'pro' and custom your tank is. Every tank has a custom plumbing install. Do what the title says. Waste of bandwidth!
nice try but i just started a 55 gallon reef tank and im learning as i go and asking questions at local fish stores is all the info i need to keep going well. I now have my 180 gal up and running and i have only been reefing for 8 months it is not that compicating and if you do have trouble seach it on youtube. For people that do dont let this video affect you from buyng a reef, tank lots of fun and you do not need a professional. The only down side is it is pricey! im at 9,000 for my 55 reef.
you shouldn't be spending that much on a 55g even with the highest quality equipment... I'm not going to insult anyone, but please don't listen to the pet stores they just try to sell you stuff(I know this from experience, I too wasted a lot of money)... reefcentral is a great site and reading a lot of good books and articles helps!
very true, spending excessive money isnt always necessary especially on a small tank like a 55. try to save money by buying used parts or DIY. 9,000 is over-exaggerating.
9000 is soooo over exagerating it isnt funny, most equipment items can be bought off ebay, I only spent 3k on my 120 set up and i have the best of the best in equipment,,all ordered online and that includes 180 pounds of live rock flown in from bali, this guy in the vid is a donkey
my advice is to find yourself a good pet store. I go to a man who owns his own pet shop and I set up a 75 gallon fowler with the cost around 1000.I have two canister filters, five 350 powerheads on my ug filter, a good protein skimmer.I have several beutiful fish.I am currently setting up a 20 gallon reef tank and I estimate at around 700 to 900Plus corals arent as sensative as many people make them out to be but they do have their needs and as long as they are met then they sill be fine.
I disagree. With a lot research and dedication anyone can enjoy this hobby without hiring a "professional". Everything he is saying is true though. Except that the lighting isn't "sophisticated". The bulbs of metal halides are, but you don't really need to know too much about that. They go into the socket, which is hooked up to a ballast, which in turn, is powered by your wall outlet.
For the algae question- I have a 100 gallon tank with a blue tang, yellow tang, and a sailfin tang and not a spot of algae. Before the tangs I had hair algae growing everywhere, suffocating my corals. Within days of the introduction of the tangs it was all gone.
you can do regular water changes but if your water is not reverse osmosis or deionized water, it will have high phosphate levels and nuisance algae will grow
max, keep up with the water changes, get a few turbo snails and hermit crabs, if its the film algae you should be able to pull it off like carpet with your hand, do this, and then have a ton of flow in that spot. I had the same issue and i did all this and its completely gone now. Best of luck.
im so over seeing this fantastic chicken ad

Don't know if I can make it any clearer.
Grak70 2 years ago
why is this in the 'How to set up aquariums' section??? this is a show off on their big balls tank.
ok so you got a big tank with no biological filtration, that is your first shortfall in showing off.
Hirokiji 2 years ago
This guy is a douche yes, but the LR is the bio filtration.
jacknjinx 2 years ago
Yeah, but LR is the biological within any tank as 99% of marines have LR. although amny have a sump with biological.
Hirokiji 2 years ago
What a joke. This guy doesn't talk about how to set up a tank. He basically tells you that you can't do it. Expert Village is weak.
TheOneAndOnlyProdigy 2 years ago 2
if you want to set up an aquarium, you need to become the expert.
the local fish store employees and most owners ae not experts, nor do they truely care about you fish, just your money.
join reef central, or a similar forum, and talk with real experts!
