Situations such as this are always complex and should not be oversimplified. Also, I believe that Wahhabism is not that common among Sudanese muslims. More prominent are two Sufi brotherhoods, Khatmia and Ansar, each associated with one of the two major political parties.

Is their an ideological or religious basis for the conflict? People seem very upset about this and with just cause but if we aren't going to send in troops to prevent this how are we going to stop it without addressing the motives and combating the causes. I'm not defending these attrocities. But it helps to know what motivates them. Are they wahabiists, radical communists, facists, racial supremacists of some kind? I wish I knew more about this. There is crap like this in Myanmar too.

I was disturbed on not finding any current news on Darfur. Nothing said that the genocide is over. I payed much attention to it back in '04 and '06. Then not much came up about it. I thought that it was over.
I guessed wrong. When Israel bombed Gaza... many people protested. But I realized that over the past few years.... not one protested about Darfur... not one person.
Did we leave to them to suffer and die? I hope that was not the decision.

the US never trained Janjaweed, people, don't believe everything just because it's on google. The US has a great grassroot movement, causing divestment, causing the special envoy, with many celebs working for it, Cloony, Pitt, Farrow ., and its amazing what SDC accomplished. Before you talk, do some research, Alex de Waal, Julie Flint, John Prendergast and others wrote good articles and books about the Darfur crisis, don't believe in conspiracy theories, research for yourself.
