Christian Bale only lip-synched in the film "Empire of the Sun". "Suo Gân", as performed by James Rainbird and the Ambrosian Junior Choir directed by John McCarthy, is featured prominently in the film Empire of the Sun, where it is lip-synched by a young Christian Bale. It also appears, instrumentally, in the beginning of the movie Dutch.
Sleep my baby, at my breast, ’Tis a mother’s arms round you. Make yourself a snug, warm nest. Feel my love forever new. Harm will not meet you in sleep, Hurt will always pass you by. Child beloved, always you’ll keep, In sleep gentle, mother’s breast nigh. Sleep in peace tonight, sleep, O sleep gently, what a sight. A smile I see in slumber deep, What visions make your face bright? Are the angels above smiling, At you in your peaceful rest? (
@orange5721 male voice choirs are very traditional in Protestant churches. I'm not sure what the origin is - something randomly sexist no doubt. Choral singing is especially strong in Wales, which is generally Methodist, and Welsh male-voice choirs enjoy an excellent (well-deserved) reputation. Welsh hymn-writers are also well-renowed for being both tuneful and emotive eg Charles Wesley. BTW, musical experts have declared no discernable difference between male voice sopranos and female.
Well, I apolagize. Going around it the way I know to let everyone know the best actor in 2010 is Christian Bale. How appropriate, listen to the music and then wonder where this music came from, Empire of the Sun.
Any clue as to when it was composed? It is sung in Welsh, an indigenous language spoken in Britain prior to the arrival of Angles and Saxons, yet it speaks of angels, a Christian myth, which came long after the Romans first set foot on the island.
que puedo decir de esta bella cancion...uffff hace que mi alma brille y suspire al oirla. gracias a quien el don de escribir esta cancion y darnos la dicha de escucharla....desde mty. mexico un cordial saludo
Please refrain from making inappropriate or disparaging comments after listening to such a heavenly-inspired piece of art--it only shows ignorance and a poor spirit.
Magnificent song. If I didn't know its welsh, I would say its elvish :D
It will take you to the moon, will make you sad and probably you'll feel, like I did, a big chill on your spine... simply devine (Note I've no Idea on what the lyrics mean therefor all my feelings come from the music itself.)
That was completely unncessary and offensive. First off, some people may simply not recognise the Welsh language because they haven't come into contact with it. Secondly, the beauty of a language is entirely subjective and I think your attitude is pretty condescending.
It's Welsh. Suo Gan means 'sleep song'. Oddly enough in Hindi translation it is almost the same 'So Gana'
I think this song should be the British national anthem and that Welsh should be taught in all schools so that students from all backgrounds have a united feel for indigenous British culture and language from before the time of the Anglo-Saxon conquest.
that may be because they both are indo-European languages, however it is nearly impossible to translate this songinto my language (Apache) and still be in beat with the music i too believe that the languages in te British, Scottish (And welsh) and Irish island pre anglo-Saxon invasion should still be taught as Apache still is taught in our schools on the Reservation (It is mostly the first language we learn evn before english which is taught when we are about 13
I'm not British in the least. Maybe Spanish. But I have to agree with you. A similar situation happens in the country I'm currently living in. A loss of the "indigenous culture" prior to more modern conquests and influences.
@aronswritingdeskyt .....................As a Welshman I have to agree with you ;) I am from North Wales though, where we speak REAL Welsh..........
There are some nicer versions of this if you browse through youtube, the Steven Spielberg Movie 'Empire of the Sun' is a beautiful version....but it's cut a lil short !
when loosing somebody you ca feel free in the arms of love ... thres always someone trying to fullfill the space lost ... its freedom for the spirit !
I always think of the opening of the film, "Empire of the Sun" when I hear this. That and my dear, late mother, gone from me ten years on the 16th of this month. Like Jim in the film, I know that one day we will be reunited, not in this life, but the life to come.
Sleep my baby, rest my loved one,Softly slumber now with me,Clasped in mothers arms so tender,Warm in mothers love for thee.
Naught shall ever come to harm thee While my loving watch I keep.Thou my pretty one shall slumber While I sing thy lullaby.Sleep my baby, rest my loved one, While the evning shadows creep. Why my birdie art thou smiling,
Smiling sweetly in thy sleep? Can it be that baby angels In Gods heaven smile on thee?Rest my darling, smile and slumber While I sing thy lullaby.
