You're here because someone somewhere said "U2 wrote Miami"
Groovy, snakey, sleazy pap, pap, pap stroll through the dirty underbelly of American plastic culture (boob jobs, hawaiian shirts and sleazeballs doing homespun porno flicks on their handicams ). Glad that guy continues to publicise U2s most cheeky, most funky little number that creates yet another unique texture to a classic album called POP.
Yes their were many great albums wrote in the early to mid 90's but, we were all to busy gettin high (YOKE'S) and dance music. and it was fucking great at the time...none of this voilence and Stabbing which seems to be the norm for young teens nowaday's...listen people i'm RAMBLING ON... here, in the through words of Led Zeppelin... its time to ramble on. Peace & Love, T yiz all!! God knows... ya need it :)))) i think i got the laughter right?.
And then people, including my good self...weren't doin E's as much anymore, and we started lookin for identity in a roundabout way, after Kurt dying and shit. 7 years... later i know! but, what i'm trying to say in my drunken state, at 9am in the morn. is... that we really didnt get kurt properly i dont think?? till the late 90's and, Nevermind was released again in 2001 or something??
It's filling in for something?? ya see in 1995 alotta people including (myself) weren't buying albums.
In Dublin anyway, we we're all listening to Dance music (when MTV was Great) let me tell ya... it was.
it was a great then...and i'm not denying the albums of the time (Oasis) included (BE HERE NOW) and (Whats the Story? Morning Glory) and (Ok Computer) and all that. its just that they didn't really hit the mark untill 2000 or there abouts??
@ElGuamesIrlandes Jajajajaja! ¿Vos también viste eso? El tipo con tres palabras hizo enojar al mundo y hay foros en google para debatir qué quiso decir.
I must admit that it is probably the leasy favourite U2 song of mine. Funny thing is that if this kind of minimalistic physchodelic sheit was performed by Radiohead, it would go down in history I bet! BTW the Edge does look jerking off here!
@alliwanttosay1 i like this song a lot actually. i think POP is a very underrated album. but to be fair Radiohead do this sort of trip-hop inspired "minimalistic physchodelic "sheit" much better, and even then they release it only as b-sides, like Talk Show Host for example. did it go down in history? i don't know, but it's a kick-ass tune.
plus, Talk Show Host was released a year before POP came out. but like i said, it's bands like Portishead and Massive Attack who came up with this signature sound. neither radiohead nor U2 are originators here.
dude, can you read? NEITHER U2 NOR Radiohead invented trip-hop. but Radiohead started implementing this sound before U2, e.g. Talk Show Host, which was released in 1996, before POP.
not sure who you are talking to, you need to be more specific and why the need to revert to insults. Who cares anyway, Radiohead were best during The Bends and OK Computer and have seriously gone downhill since then. They showed versatililty with Amnesiac and Kid A, but whether they were actually any good. well that's open to debate.. Muse are much better than them now anyway..
hahaha, wow. Amnesiac and Kid A are fantastic influential albums. no, Radiohead hasn't gone downhill after OK Computer, and no, it's not open to debate. but if you'd rather listen to Supermassive Black Holes, I really have nothing further to say to you. some people just have piss poor taste in music, and there's nothing that i can say to change that. good day.
"so it could be that U2 actually influenced Radiohead."
No. U2 had past their influencial sell by date by the time of Pop. Before recording Pop Bono said he wanted to do a trip hop album as the bristol sound was a well established genre by then because of the likes of Portishead, Massive Attack, Tricky, Morcheeba etc. U2 hired music producer and trip hop artist Howie B to help them make Pop. No way did Pop influence Radiohead, The Pop album was about aging rockers remaining relevent.
I am quite sure that U2 were a big influence on Radioheads earlier stuff though, for example Stay (faraway, so close) and High and Dry have uncanny similarities. In fact there are alot of U2 style sounds throughout The Bends.
this song talks about the decadence of modern society represented by a place, miami. the music is illustrating that: it's deliberately slow, boring... the voice is intemperate... the end with a shout reveals the fill this kind of life produces. the ones who say that this song isn't good don't understand that: they're confusing the feeling it tries to communicate (fill, boredom, insipidity) with the song itself.
finally a true U2 fan...that was brilliant mate. I liked the riff but now its growing on me...Pop for sure is a fantastic album both musically and lyrically
I just got "War" and it ranks amongst one of the greatest albums of all time/I've ever heard. The best songs off the album are in my opinion: "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "New Year's Day", "Like a Song..", "Two Hearts Beat As One" and the inevtably underrated "Drowing Man" one of the definitive songs about death.
I've heard the majority of the tracks off "Pop" with the exception of this one and "If You Wear That Velvet Dress". I'm soemwhat new to U2 and only have "Boy" and "How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb". I love both albums. : )
