  • Wow you can really pick! Great job and great song

  • (:BLUEGRASS RULES:)Enjoyed Da Listen.Love it.Your You Tube Bro.(~;yrral Mallik of Songramp AKA Larry Gordon Killam of Facebook Group Songwriters Unite over 1800 members;~)

  • Great job JIm, i have been wanting to learn that song ever since i heard Mike Seeger do it, if i can figure it out half as good as you have done i will be happy.

  • @TheJimKeith Thanks! I posted a tab of it over at the Banjo Hangout. Let me know if you can't find it. :)

  • i love your playing and i love this song, but at 25 seconds i cant help but laugh at the little quagmire head nod. i sat here watching it for about 5 minutes laughing.

I gave double C a shot. i was back in open G within an hour.. i had no idea what i was doing in double C lol. i think i'll just have to stick to three finger picking.

  • @jessupar It's always amusing for me when I go back and watch myself. Glad to have shared that amusement with you.

As for double c, it's a great tuning for 3 finger too.

  • @wildjimbo I've still got a LOT to learn in either style, on the right hand atleast, so i think i might better try open C in a couple more years so i have some sort of fighting chance, haha. For now I'll have to stick to a tuning my left hand knows.

  • Thanks for all these videos. You do some of the cleanest frailing I've ever seen. Something to work toward, haha!

  • what tuning are you playing this in? double c?

  • Yes - Double C.

  • this is not bluegrass. his i old- time music there is a difference.

  • great pickin and grinin

    Bluegrass rules

  • Love it 5* Thanks for sharing it. Bluegrass is my favorite music .

  • I love bluegrass, too, but this is "old-time" clawhammer banjo, not bluegrass Scruggs-style picking. But both are forms of Appalachian stringband music, so it's all good. :-)

  • Boy, I could listen to that sound all day!!

  • thanks wildjimbo for your wonderful music!

  • wow that's amazing! I've been looking for the tab for that song, but I just can't find it... well. Keep up the good work.

  • 1-4-1-4-1-5

  • Great performance! 5+Star's!

Very best of wishes for health and happiness!

    GinMillBill

  • effortlessly awesome

  • I never get tired of watching you play that one Jimbo,,what a sweet sound..out of all your banjers that has to be your fav one.

  • The responsiveness of that banjo is fantastic (and of course so is the playing). Who makes that?

  • Hey, sorry for so many posts. They were supposed to be replies to other comments, but YouTube keeps putting them on the top like a general comment....anyways, you inspired me to start playing the banjo again. Thanks!

  • Hehe...me too.

  • I just wanted to add--you don't hear a ton of singing with just a banjo accompaniment. This was....hypnotic I guess... It just draws you in. Such a simple old-timey tune that just stirs you up deep inside. Awesome man! Thanks for posting it.

  • That's absolute perfection, that is mountain music at it's best!! I dabble in 3-finger pickin, but I don't have a middle finger anymore(don't ask!) can I still play clawhammer without that middle finger??

  • Absolutely. About half of all clawhammer players use their index. :)

  • I have the opposite problem...I lopped off my index (also don't ask!), and the doc put it back on. It works, sort of, but it's clumsy. I keep it well out of the way, like I am pointing, and use the middle finger to claw.

  • Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ...

Yu'r playin the way it suppose to be ...

    God i luv banjo...

    unleash the fury dude ...

  • Glad you approve!

    Unleashing the Fury!

  • yo man u need to make more! ur skillz are excellent. u make me wanna learn banjo, u make it look so soulful. pEAce!

  • You are my favorite banjo player on there. I lover you sound, singing to.

  • Mr. Jim sir, I would just love to own this on record! Any chance you´ll make one any time soon?

  • Absolutely amazing! I don't now anything about playing the banjo but you sound like a genius to me!

  • I've heard faster and 'harder'(which I'm sure he can do too), but that was pure banjo music right there - - as good as it gets! He's just got that mood or feel about it.

  • Jim that was wild..and you rock !

  • That was great!

  • Good, very inspired.

  • Wow, really some of the most beautiful playing and singing I've heard here, strong but not harsh at all. And a great sounding banjo too. Thanks.

  • Jim ol boy I keep this video going in the background at the office almost daily

  • Very nice! An inspiration to us aspiring pickers-

  • Brilliant; Any advice of where TAB can be found for this piece. Many thanks. STP

  • Thanks! No idea on a tab for it; I just play whatever comes into my head.

  • Brilliant+++++. I wish I could say and play like that.

    Many thanks. STP

  • Love it Wildjimbo...you're makin it look way easier than what it is for us learners:)

  • I'm 62 and plat banjo ukes and autoharp. This fantastic video has inspired me to buy and old clawhammer banjo, restore it and learn to play. Jimbo is the best. Clive

  • awesome

  • I would love to see a post by whomever left the less-than-five-star rating for this performance. They must be very good. ...or full of shit.

  • Gorgeous playing, Jim! I'm a big fan.

  • you're sick with the drop thumb

  • That was great

  • ur daaaAAamn gooood bro

  • I love the sound of your banjo. It is very rich. What kind of banjo are you playing in this video?

  • Thanks! It's a Ramsey Woody. I'm using it in all of my current clawhammer videos.

  • Hi Jim..........Love that sound...I've got a Ramsey Special. I love your version of New Railroad....G Lynch

  • One more question, are you in double C-tuning?

  • Yep. Double C. :)

  • Thanks :D

  • Nice job, yet again, Mr Pankey! Got any tabs out yet?

  • I been playin' only one month and I dream of playing like you. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • I keep watchin' them magic fingers for all the licks'n'tricks I can glean.

Thanks Jimbo. My life is enriched.

  • Finally. We've missed you.

  • Outstanding. Thanks!

  • Oh yeah. Many thanks, Jimbo.

  • It's about time jimbo....welcome!:)

  • Man, amazing. Make as many video's as you can. You've got some smooth clawhammering and a great voice to match.

  • It's been too long since you've put up new videos....you certainly didn't disappoint. Great job Jimbo, as always. Great song as well.

  • I've been wanting to post this for a while, and the weather finally cooperated a bit. :) Thanks so much!
