The visual effects are fucking awesome, but I think whoever did the sound effects is a fucking genius. I mean just little sound effects add so much more. Like the part where the liquid metal goes down neo's throat, that was an awesome sound.

Well, according to the story/ies , it was an AI, but still an intelligence, it also developed a craving and need for survival. Dont forget, they arent 'just machines', theyre intelligent forms. And also, they say some of them do feel the love attachment, you see it in the 3rd film, and the hate detachment, which you see in all 3.

Apparently this war has been going on for about 100 years and all the machines succeeded in doing is enslaving the human race and using them as an energy source so they can survive.

When Neo and Trinity went to the Earth's surface in the last movie it wasn't a civilization where the machines were living in peace, the land was destroyed and it was chaotic.

One aspect that doesnt get shown neither in the films nore animated series. but i guess there are a lot of machines like the program oracle, that bake cakes and smoke and do stuff out of the routine of being a machine.

also it is a very new lifeform. the only thing they learned so far is war.

@k1dicarus Im assuming that the whole thing started like it was depicted in The Animatrix-The Second Renaissance. So if this is true, then that means that the machines and AI aren't that new. When the machines were living with the humans, they knew all about love, joy, happiness, and pleasure.

But now,(present-day Matrix) the humans are no more but the earth is still chaotic and the machines live in a dark world with no happiness and no pleasure. It's mostly just Sentinels.

We never actualy see how they live behind those walls. And as in the third movie in the train station the family-loving program is shown, I asume the machines that programmed them aren´t different. And I can easily beliefe, that a machine can enjoy living in a world that is totally destroyed. They have their city. They are just about 500 y old. I think that is even for a highly intelligent lifeform pretty young. Maybe one day they feel joy in restoring the planet, maybe never.

The Matrix is one the greatest and most philosophical stories ever brought to the big screen. This movie is NOT about a guy fighting machines. If you look past the flashiness, it's a call to spiritual awakening, although when I first saw it as a teenager, I was too young to get it. It's about believing in yourself without limits, about fighting the system (government, corporations) that's trying to keep you oblivious of the truth. You think it's a coincidence the "Agents" are wearing suits?
